    MMA FAQ

The best submission grapplers in the world today still compete and use the gi for training, only taking it off 6 weeks to a month before big competition so they can adjust their grips. The technical aspect actually is a bonus as you have to use correct application of technique to win, you have more options in a gi than without one (chokes, using the gi to trap them), however 90% of what you do no gi can be used in gi training. As for guard types, there's too many. Open guard, closed guard, rubber guard, turtle guard, spider guard, X guard, De La Riva guard, Roleta guard, pinball guard... all just different ways to describe leg positioning.

    Cage Rage

Cage Rage have a working relationship with PRIDE so PRIDE can claim to be a truly global company with fighters from all over the world and CR can get some British fighters decent money and exposure. Overall the ecents are good but the judging is bullshit sometimes. Izidro dominated the fight against Mohamed bell to bell but didn't win the decision... what crap.

    Batista out indefinitely

Who is to say? If he's saying all the time "I'm fighting for you, homes, this belt belongs to you, I'm just keeping it safe until the Animal is back" and trying to convince Batista he is sincere while subtly becoming more obsessed with the belt (changing the name plate over, instead of carrying it to the ring in his hands wearing it around his waist, slipping up in interviews and referring to it as "my belt") it could be built for 2-3 months as Eddie gets crazier and Batista becomes more suspicious.

    Batista out indefinitely

Ouch. Considering his physique they might have to actually use a hook on the muscle to pull it down into place to be secured again. It may only keep him out 2 months but you can bet he'll be advised to stay away from the weights for a while so he doesn't tear it again. I hope he likes swimming. The way this could work is have Batista out with an injury, have Eddie win the belt after "fighting in your honor, ese" and winning maybe an eight man tournament on SD. Eddie can defend the belt, cheating to win and reverting to his old ways, all the while telling Batista over the phone and backstage that he's keeping it warm for him until he's 100%. Eventually Batista comes back and Eddie says he's the real champ and he will give it to him in the ring, Eddie beats the piss out of Batista with the belt and they have a gimmick match (Last Man Standing?) at the Royal Rumble where Batista regains the belt after one of Eddie's attempts to cheat backfires. I'd buy that for a dollar.

    Candice Booty Slip...

Men checking out naked women is not perverted. Men checking out women being pissed on by horses while wearing diapers, blowing strap ons worn by girls dressed as men and sitting on Sybians while on their periods is perverted.

Benoit's contract up in 3 weeks

Not really, no. The majority of Fozzy fansa are wrestling fans and they only play small venues. They don't bother the charts or get any coverage outside of the rare Kerrang quarter page taking the piss out Jericho.

    Vince isn't happy with Coach

He doesn't have a contract with the WWE anymore. It expired and he did not renew or sign a new one. He is no longer under their employ. He's said if he ever wrestles again it will be for the WWE but he's not signed to them and receiving pay cheques. So he'd actually be really unemployed in terms of the WWE but with his band, radio show and savings he's not exactly going to be begging for quarters anytime soon.

Check Out A Picture Of The Dicks!

One should be called Nick because they are dressed exactly like the guy from the Tom Hanks movie Bachelor Party. Thinking about it, I can see them actually reusing the "Here's your hotdog" bit from the movie with a Diva at some point.

What makes a 5 star match?

There's always debate about what makes a truly classic and praise worthy match. More recently there have been disputes about what should and shouldn't be considered five star/classic matches, so I was curious what people feel a match of this caliber should have/not have. In my opinion a classic match should have lots of action, spots or moments that are well built up or create a sense of uncertainty as to who will win, feature believable offense (as best as pro wrestling can achieve) and make sense as the match continues (working over a body part for 90% of the match should not lead to a roll up finish IMO), good selling, a sense of prestige and all involved working to the best of their ability to involve the crowd in the match and bring about genuine interest or emotion from them. A good build up to promote the match can also be a factor as it can add to the story the match tells (if it is a matter of pride, the match should last a long time with neither wrestler wanting to take a pin, if one wrestler is "injured" the other should work the limb over to the point you almost feel sorry for the "injured" person, etc). It should not have blown spots, obvious spot calling, long lulls in action or overuse of restholds, moments that involve you to suspend disbelief too an unreasonable degree (Shawn Michaels kipping up after being beaten down), moves used for the sake of flash, no selling and it should not be predictable from bell to bell. So, what in your opinion makes a classic match?

Vince/WWE vs. Wrestling New Sites/Net Fans

A sports team works their hardest to win and entertain their fans even when they are in slumps. Just because they do not succeed does not mean they do not try. Even in defeat if a team has tried their best they will be given credit 90% of the time for a gutsy performance. I don't think comparing an entertainment company to a sports team is valid. It's like comparing Sony to the NBA. WWE can't even really be compared to actual sports either. WWE has full control over who wins and loses, who are their MVP and champions... real sports don't have that kind of complete control over the fates of every player in their ranks. The guys that win titles get them from hard work, dedication and team effort, the guys in the WWE get them for being liked by the boss. To be noticed and promoted in the WWE you don't have to be one of the best guys in the ranks, you just have to have a "look" and be able to avoid potatoing or botching things badly. Even then it doesn't matter as you will still get treated well 90% of the time (Cena was not punished for knocking Kurt Angle's teeth out or no-selling his ankle "injury" before, during and after his match with Kurt Angle on PPV or for no selling his Tyson Tomko caused "concussion". As Champion he should be an example of a solid consistent and charismatic worker, unfortunately he is only the latter and even that's not as strong as it was), whether you do Nazi salutes and break the law or stage a fight with a friend for the Hell of it in a restaurant, provided managment like you. If any other athlete embarrassed their team in that way they'd probably be suspended without pay for weeks and have to issue a public apology. In the WWE? You get to be champ. As you can see, the comparison is not valid. If the WWE were even trying their hardest to put on an entertaining product then maybe some comparison could hold water. As it is with everyone from the talent to a company Vice President noting some of the crap they have put out and the WWE recycling old skits in a non-ironic manner and with WWE "creative" giving a pair of tag team the pseudonym of the Dicks (Not a rip off of TNA's The Johnsons at all) and presenting someone like Papa Shango with Tourettes after stealing Flava Flav's clock... I don't think it can be said they are trying their absolute hardest unlike sports teams. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's totally missing the point of my argument. Yes, wrestling and real sports are different, but that doesn't change the fact that both go through bad times, regardless of the cause. Fans who don't stick around have no reason to criticize those who do. Not to mention your assumption that WWE isn't trying at all is shaky at best. You're not even giving them a chance... What if they are trying their best and are just out of touch with the fanbase? If WWE is trying, your argument holds no water at all, and I doubt they're intentionally trying to tank their product or phone it in... They're still a corporation out to make a profit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I gave them a chance. I even tried to defend the reprehensible Bischoff stalking Linda angle that made the people I was watching with uncomfortable. If they were trying they'd come up with original ideas or new spins on old ones rather than reusing failed gimmicks or old angles (The Narcissist/Reflection of Perfection/The Masterpiece, firing JR, The Dicks/The Johnsons, wheeling out the McMahon family as powerful figures united despite the fact Stephanie has been banned from the programming according to their storylines three times now) and breaking the rules of their own company's internal logic simply because writing something else that would make sense would be too much effort. The WWE is not going through bad times due to a lack of skilled players proficient at their roles able to interest the audience. They have capable workers in their roster, they just waste their talents. If they were trying their best, people wouldn't have raise as many complaints, workers wouldn't be leaving the company or walking out on them, VPs wouldn't be openly condeming the shows and acknowledging shitty storylines and angles and ratings would be closer to the ones they achieved at their peak. The evidence is there that they aren't trying their hardest.

    Austin Walks Out Again

I think it also may be related to when he first started being pushed to ME level and Austin still felt HHH was below him and not ready for the ME. Ross sided with Austin at the time. That is why HHH didn't win the title from Austin and instead won it from Foley on RAW after Summerslam '99 after they convinced Foley to be a caretaker champ. Ross didn't take kindly to being potato'd and left blind in one eye for a couple of months as well as needing stitches after HHH worked stiff and bladed him too deeply in their "match" earlier this year. He also didn't like the fact HHH suffered no punishment for it whereas past stiff workers (like RVD) got depushed for "not knowing how to work". At this point in time HHH is politically more powerful than Ross, who is becoming known as behind the times and out of touch in Vince's eyes. Apparently Dave Lagana and Ross butted heads a couple of times over the storylines (I heard Ross objected to the Dawn Marie/Torrie/Al Wilson, Dawn/Jackie/Haas and Angle/Booker/Sharmell storylines because of the tasteless execution of them, particularly the Haas storyline since JR has a thing for college athletes) so that probably added to that perception. It's no surprise JR has allegedly been a grumpy bastard the last few years given what he has had to endure and be involved in. He's said a few times he's glad neither of his parents are alive to see what he's had to do. I doubt when he was calling matches back in 88 he ever imagined he'd have to pucker up to Vinny Mac's brown eye on national TV.

It is one thing to complain. It is another to complain about something but continue to subject yourself to it, only to then continue to complain. The logical thing for a person to do if they don't like or enjoy something is to not repeat the experience if they can avoid it in the future. If I have bad service at a restaurant, I will complain and likely never return. I won't go back every week for the sake of doing so to be be fed crap I don't like. To do so would be either stupid or masochistic. I enjoyed watching Buffy The Vapire Slayer up until season 6 because then in my opinion it began to decrease in quality. I didn't continue watching simply because I had watched previous good episodes the kind of which they were no longer producing. I found The Strokes first album to be enjoyable but upon listening to Room On Fire I found it to be below my expectations and didn't buy it. I didn't get it simply because I had the previous album that I liked. I used to read the US version of Maxim but after it became filled with more ads and less content I stopped buying it. By the same token I stopped watching WWE regularly after the Jim Ross vs HHH RAW main event because it was a pointless diversion in the storyline and I was getting bored of the HHH-Batista storyline. Do you understand yet? To complain week in and week out about something you continue to support and watch out of choice makes no sense whatsoever. It's like sticking your finger in a plug socket and complaining when you get electrocuted, you should know better and exercise some common sense so you don't have to endure anything you don't want or need to. RRR often calls it "Battered Wife Syndrome" insofar as watching and hoping things will change for the better, however a battered wife usually has few places to go and is bound by a vow to stay with their partner until death. I don't believe anyone here is married to the WWE so there is no excuse for sticking around and putting up with crap other than having a lack of qualitative judgment, a sense of masochism, a disregard for the basic rules that any show with storylines should follow which makes them willing and able to accept crap programming or lacking the intelligence to have it insulted. Marks that enjoy the show... good for them. More power to them. People that don't enjoy the show put tune in regardless... desperate fans who should probably know better. I follow the WWE via reports but I only try to watch something of theirs if I have heard that it is good because I can do without the rest of the crap they put out. I get all of the good, none of the bad and as such don't have to sit on my sofa thinking "Why the Hell did that even happen?"

It defies all logic though. That's what's the strangest part. Even rats stop performing conditioned behaviour over time if not rewarded for their efforts. That evolved human beings are seemingly less capable of logical thought than rats is mindboggling.

Vince/WWE vs. Wrestling New Sites/Net Fans

Anyone that feels obligated in any way to a TV PROGRAM of all things really needs to think about what kind of social life and priorities they have. It's not like a friend you have known for a long time who falls on hard times, IT'S A TV PROGRAM RAN BY A MULTI MILLIONAIRE WHO OWNS A INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED COMPANY. If the WWE don't even feel obligated to provide pensions for the people who literally allow themselves to be knocked about 4-5 days a week, why does any of you feel obligated to them? Referring to actual people who aren't "enhancement talent" as "jobbers" in real life is sad to begin with. The fact you find it so hard to find anything else better to do with your time or feel so drawn to such a poor quality product is also sad. Turn off the TV, change the channel, go bowling or read a book. You should be smarter than to just have a Pavlovian response of "it's Monday night, wrestling time" when you are expecting to be disappointed. It's funny in a way that you abstain from drugs and alcohol but are instead addicted to WWE, unable to turn away no matter how matter it is. I guess everyone does have their vices. If something is bad, people acknowledge it is bad, you have to defend it because it is so bad but still tune in regardless it either means you are a masochist or simply don't care about the quality of the product as long as it is the same product. I would prefer a bootleg packed with extras to a bootleg recorded in a cinema much like I'd prefer a tasty and filling meal to a week old sandwich simply because I have certain standards in terms of quality. In the same way, when something insults my intelligence or offends me, I'd rather walk away than stick around to be patronised and insulted. Maybe it's a self esteem issue, I dunno, but when I have the choice of good quality or bad quality, I know which I'll go for. Comparing the Simpsons to WWE is not completely valid. While the Simpsons has declined in quality they hadn't done anything up until the recent DVD slipcase debacle that was evidently done to spite fans and they've acknowledged in the show when they've fucked up in later episodes, so it can't be said they don't try listen to their fanbase and are willing to make light of their own screwups.

    Austin Walks Out Again

The only thing I can attack Austin for is even agreeing to work this program to begin with. He was willing to job to Coach if he got Ross his job back but when Austin finally figured out they werent going to do it, he had nothing to gain. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think the whole point is he walked out because he didn't want to do the job and not have his buddy return. Had it been booked so he had won JR would have returned and there would have been no problems.

It has a sound effect, that's as good as you're getting. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He lost a mask vs mask match against Kane. He took off the mask, did his rant, disappeared for a couple of weeks and returned wearing the mask.

    Torrie Wilson...gone.

Torrie Wilson would keep her name as I believe that's her legit name and I'm not sure about Billy Kidman but just name him Billy Wilson if you must. But TNA hasn't shown any interest in Kidman and tna fans aren't clamoring for him and either are the indies like ROH. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Considering the last two good matches he had involved Rey Mysterio and TWGTT and Paul London, it's not surprising he's not getting booked when those are his only notable matches in the last 4 years.

I tried... I really did... I haven't watched a full show in months but have kept up with goings on and something inside me wants to watch and support the WWE... but my logical mind is saying "this is worse that Cabin Fever and Ishtar back to back with my eyes wired open Clockwork Orange style, why are you doing this to yourself?" What a sad and shitty show. I guess I'll just sick to getting the occasional ROH or TNA match for the foreseeable future. This show is more or less the WWE taking a huge dump and expecting the audience to be scatophages.
