Hm. Benoit took time off before to "rest and work out personal issues" not too long ago and since going back to work apparently someone suggested something was eating at him. Nancy did cheat on Kevin Sullivan before. This really does seem to be pointing towards OJ territory. If his son was indeed found in bed and if no weapons were found, it's probably strangulation or smothering. Things got infinitely more depressing suddenly.

I haven't watched regularly in a long time. Aside from Kennedy and MVP, there is nothing and no one of interest to me anymore that I enjoy watching. If the news coming out is true, something fucking extraordinary must have happened for a successful family man on 6 figures who is an inspiration to many to do this.

I remember an old LAW show where they had Tom "Dynamite Kid" Billington and Chris Benoit on and they were talking about Dynamite giving his boots to Benoit and his thoughts on wrestling. Dynamite warned Benoit that wrestling was always going to be a destructive business that would loved you and leave you taking everything else with it. At the time it seemed like a very bleak statement given the tone of the interview. I'm actually curious how Billington will have reacted to this. He and Benoit seemed to share an very odd semi-paternal relationship, like he was Benoit's bitter old uncle that wanted him to have a better life than he did. He must be fucked up over this.

I am just hoping that in light of the magnitude of this tragedy and given that the entire family passed away, they will not be able to exploit his death as they have others before. I don't know about you but following the Dominic angle, Eddie's passing and the use of his death as a tool to promote a feud between one of his best friends, his cousin and his wife I was fucking appalled. Someone's passing should be mourned and their life and achievements recognised and celebrated, it shouldn't be used to further storylines, I don't care what line of work you are in. I mean, if a Robert Altman quote was created to use on a Transformers poster, people would cry bloody murder and call for Bay and Spielberg's heads. Just because it's lower quality entertainment doesn't mean they are cleared of all responsibility when it comes to tact and decency.

As tasteless as this may be to say now, while I am saddened by this news I am at the same time relieved that there is no one for the WWE to exploit or pin on Benoit's passing to as a means to push them. Unlike Eddie's passing, this will not see his family being used to promote anything or anyone in the WWE. Nancy Benoit and her children will not be paraded out like Vicki Guerrero or painfully interviewed like Melanie Pillman. Hopefully once a fitting tribute has been paid to the man they will not make light of this tragedy ever again except in a respectful manner and tone. I am not a huge wrestling fan like I used to be but if there is one person who exemplified professionalism in wrestling, it was Chris Benoit. Of course, this is unlikely and they'll find some way to spin things but I am hoping I am wrong and they'll actually finally do something sensible and re-evaluate their possible storyline avenues.

Since the start of this McMahon death angle two legends have died in consecutive weekends from all appearances, both due to unknown reasons. I'm a cynic by nature but I'd take that as a very bad omen. That an entire family has died with not one left to carry on is so incredibly sad. I am wondering if any calls were placed to the emergency services by any members of the family or Benoit or if in the panic and desperation their first thought was to call dad for help... This does seem to indicate some degree of foul play or a serious fast and fatal virus. The first things that came to mind for me in terms of agents that can cause that kind of violent reaction were mustard gas, ebola virus, malaria and anthrax. Whether he recovered quickly or not, I don't think he should have been declared the winner because he was just as out of it as Newton was and if Newton didn't win then Hughes shouldn't have been given the win simply because he recovered faster. Not really, this was more a Niko Vitale/Matt Lindland situation, except Emerson tapped. In that instance Lindland KO'd himself with a suplex attempt but KO'd himself as Niko Vitale's weight was shifted on him and he basically slammed his head on the mat and had Vitale's bodyweight fall on him. Because Niko was awake, he got the TKO win. With Newton/Hughes the fight went to Hughes because he gained consciousness quickly after the slam rendered Carlos Newton unconscious and was able to stand and recover almost as soon as the pressure was off his throat. He blacked out for mere seconds. If Emerson hadn't tapped and managed to sweep him and threw just one punch it may have been more decisive, but his rib injury and subsequent tap out effectively made the no contest inevitable.

The soul singing cypher was straight out of New Jack City, the People's Court theme remix was a very nice touch too.
