Arguably both thanks to guys like Don King.

Man cries at a Wrestling Convention

How is it retarded to assert pro wrestling isn't real or a sport and to express my disdain for anyone that tries to claim otherwise? How is it real if suspension of disbelief is involved? It can't be. How is it real when they are "workers" rather than "competitors", titles are "won" by people handpicked by the company so they can promote them and generate revenue rather than by the best, virtually every move involved entails the cooperation of all involved, things are planned and scripted in advance and people are asked to "sell" for one another, to act like they are hurt, rather than actually go and kick the crap out of each other?

What's realistic about a vertical suplex? What's realistic about someone lying perfectly still while another person climbs the turnbuckles so they can jump on them? What's realistic about getting armbars and then not actually breaking the arm or shoulder? What's realistic about running to and bouncing off the ropes? Stuntmen get injured on the job all the time when they are meant to be protecting each other but no one cries over them. You should look into "suspension of disbelief." You should also let me hit you in the head with a chair so you can tell me it's fake. Also: you're an idiot. So it is somehow realistic in your opinion however I am meant to use suspension of disbelief, which by definition means disregarding all internal logic and simply accepting what is presented to you regardless of how unlikely or unbelievable it is. Yet I'm the idiot. "Ugh fuck this movie, im supposed to believe that Bruce Willis can play a detective called John McClaine, and that terrorists will take over a plaza building. And that one cop can do all this? Fuck this, worst movie ever!" - Cameron Chaos watching Die hard Movies don't have anybody defending them as real. I doubt people go up to Meryl Streep saying they feel so sorry about what happened to here having to decide between her kids. People realise she was acting, the rest of the people in the film were acting, the script while based in reality was fictional and it was a collaborative effort to entertain people, much like wrestlers working together to tell a story to entertain the fans over the course of their match.

Yet I'm the idiot. As for the hitting me in the head with a chair so I can see if it hurts, 1) I wouldn't let myself get into such a situation if I could help it and 2) the idea of actually letting someone hit me in the head full swing with a metal object is high on my "things not to ever do" list. Also, if they are genuinely swinging full force on each other using metal chairs and letting each other take the blows, then they likely don't have too much to lose up there. However I'm guessing that they aren't which is why wrestlers get their hands up to protect themselves and they only go hit each other on the top of forehead which is the thickest part of the skull. I also reckon they know how to take blows so they appear real much like most actors do... you know, that thing everyone called "selling"?

How exactly is me pointing out that while I think it's cool he tried to put his thoughts forward, it's still lame despite his assertions for him it's real make it equally comical compared to a grown man breaking down in tears over wrestling? On the other hand though, I really don't want people like this breeding. It makes the gene pool all the more shallow.

A sport generally has to involve actual competition. Seriously dude, kill yourself or at least get a vasectomy. Just because you hung out with some people you dug as a kid and teenager and appreciate their efforts to entertain you, which have left them pained in their old age, doesn't somehow make two guys assisting one another in making their theatrics and bumps look real an actual sport. It's just two guys working together and pretending to fight. Ergo, it's not real. It's as real as stunt work in movies. Their injuries may be real but come on dude, when was the last time you saw a back body drop in a real situation? When has someone getting their ass kicked "hulked up"? It doesn't happen. I respect you for actually coming round and trying to put your two cents in so we understand the video but that doesn't make your bawling because of past wrestlers actions any more odd and lame.

    MMA FAQ

    I expect Ortiz-Griffin to resemble Ortiz-Cote.
  10. Considering Austin's "I see sand people" line earlier this year, I doubt Vince's "nigga" comment bothered him. I could see that pissing off the Rock though considering who his father is.

    WWE Tryouts

Amy's actually a very good amateur wrestler from what I have heard. However given Shelton Benjamin's current treatment and Charlie Haas's release those kind of credentials aren't actually going to mean that much. Add in the fact several women have left the company voluntarily or been dismissed in recent times, generally after they've posed in Plyaboy, and I don't think a WWE career for any woman is very secure.

    WWE Tryouts

I did the same thing over on Sherdog forums earlier this year Porter. Just leave her be and let her dream her dream for now. If she gets rejected but a former Penthouse Pet or Playboy Playmate gets through then she'll have learned the hard way. Unless of course she's willing to polish Vinny Mac's genetic jackhammer then she may have a better chance.

    Rumoured UFC 57 card

Light Heavyweight Championship rematch Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell vs Randy "The Natural" Couture Heavyweight match Jeff "Snowman" Monson vs Branden Lee Hinkle Light Heavyweight match Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs Mike Van Arsdale Middleweight Championship match Rich "Ace" Franklin vs David "The Crow" Loiseau Heavyweight match Paul "Headhunter" Buentello vs TBA Heavyweight match Frank Mir vs Marcia "Pe de Pano" Cruz Heavyweight match Justin Eilers vs Brandon Vera Heavyweight match Keith Jardine vs Mike Whitehead Your thoughts please. Yes, I noticed there is another thread but that's got all the offical announcements so far, I figure it can't hurt to have another here for rumoured matches. I think Monson/Lee Hinkle could be a snore if Monson doesn't finish it quick. He's got good sweeps and takedowns and is a lot more of a finisher in MMA than in grappling so it could be a short fight... hopefully. If it becomes a wrestling contest it could be boring. I don't see either wanting to strike standing. Ace vs The Crow. This could be very interesting. Loiseau has good sub defense, better kicks and elbows but Ace has better hands, good submissions and a solid guard. However a Loiseau TKO can come very easily with just one elbow. I personally think this will be a war but Franklin will find a way to win. Eilers vs Vera should not last too long and I expect Vera to win. He's a got good submissions and grappling thanks to Lloyd Irvin and regular sparring partner Dean Lister, good striking that's improving under Rob Kaman and always comes in with a gameplan. Eilers is coming back from surgery on his quad and hamstring so I expect Vera to kills his legs, get him off balance and then finish him either standing or on the ground. Mike Whitehead is a tough fighter but not top class at 7-4 losing last to Brandon Vera. Keith Jardine is 8-1-1 and has very nice striking with a solid if simple ground game. This could go to decision however hopefully Jardine can finish it sooner to avoid the judges.
  14. A lot of actors stay in character. Robin Williams, Johnny Depp, I believe Pacino and De Niro are known for it time to time and many, many more. The point of this is to be in character before the director says "action." To "be in the moment" as they say. I have nothing to add about Carlito. Everyone has been saying the same thing about him for the last few months and in God knows how many threads. It's getting boring. Carlito is no DeNiro. Pacino and DeNiro are both NYU performing and cinematic arts graduates so it makes sense for them to remain in character as that is what they are taught, to mantain authenticity as opposed to slip into character, although DeNiro apparently doesn't do that anymore while Pacino will on set between takes but when consulting directors or just walking around he is just himself. Willliams is a great character actor and has a knack for voices and mannerisms so again it makes sense to me for him to try perfect these traits while onset. However NONE of the actors mentioned are known for staying in character off set while promoting their films. Carlito is Carlito while on WWE programs and MSNBC. Why?

    Rumoured UFC 57 card

At the Arnold Classic 2004 grappling competition, Monson was in Pe De Pano's guard. According to the rules, neck cranks were allowed as part of a guard pass but not as submissions. Monson was up on points and in Cruz's guard. Aware of the rules, Pe De Pano tapped out to a neck crank as Monson was setting up a guard pass. Monson was ruled to have broken the rules and Pe De Pano won by disqualificiation. Monson has said if he got the chance again he'd rip Pe De Pano's head clean off for fucking him over like that.

Penn vs GSP for a title shot is being talked about for UFC 58 with Hughes vs Karo possibly on the same card.
  17. you try too hard to be hip to the wrestling jive. give it up, man. you sound silly. It all made sense to me. I don't see what's wrong with using wrestling terminology on a board where most are familiar with it. However the irony of you claiming that he "sounds silly" after typing "hip to the wrestling jive" is palpable. In Carlito I think the WWE has a long term midcard heel. I don't think the character is almost a parody, it doesn't have any depth and as such cannot really be emotionally invested in. Aside from appearing to be a judgmental cheater with big hair that eats apples and declares things "cool" and not "cool", there is nothing to him. I thought the initial stabbing angle with Cena could have led to something with Carlito appearing to be cool, calm and composed as a front for the other side of his character, a cold and violent bastard willing to do anything to get what he wants( kind of like a darker version of the Guerrero "lie, cheat and steal" gimmick) but then that heat went onto Jesus and was wasted as a result. As for maintaining kayfabe, I think when all others have dropped the facade while he maintains it he makes an ass of himself. If everyone else is acting normally while he chews on an apple complaining about things being "not cool" he's making himself look like a twat. It reminds me of when I read about Wesley Snipes staying in character as Blade on the set of Blade: Trinity. I though to myself "This guy is walking around all day pretending to be a COMIC CHARACTER? WHAT THE FUCK?"

Vote for a new Batista shirt design on WWE.com

Number 2 would be better if it didn't have Batista on the front and unleashed on the back. If it just had the dragon on the back and the logo on the sleeve that would be much better. Or maybe the logo on the chest of three with the dragon and sleeve logo. I'm gonna vote for the first though. You gotta love weird ass shit.

    PRIDE: SHOCKWAVE~!

After he and his wife split he basically decided he'd missed out on a lot of things and is apparently now partying like it's 1999. In a way I can't blame him, he's in great shape, more popular and famous than ever, earning good money, who wouldn't spend time in Vegas if they could afford it? I do wonder where the blonde out of a Whitesnake video who walked to the ring with him before he faced Chuck the second time has gone recently though.

    PRIDE: SHOCKWAVE~!

Sakuraba/Tamura is possible as negotiations continue. Sakakibara and Takada apparently wants to set this up before Sak retires and feels it would also boost interest in the NYE show due to their long running grudge. Hopefully Tamura will agree and stop ducking Sak. Henderson/Busta - Let's hope it goes longer than it did before. I'll go with Hendo by KO or decision. Gomi/Sakura - Gomi is on a tear but Sakura is back on form. I'll say decision to Gomi since his wrestling skills should help him defend Sakura's attempts at subs on the ground and his improved striking, especially his kicks and defense, should keep Sakura frustrated. Cro Cop/Hunt - I'll go with Cro Cop via liver kick TKO or submission, no way is he KOing Hunt with the left high kick. Fedor/Zulu - Fedor by submission. He better be careful though, Zuluzinho does have heavy hands and if he underestimates him he could end up repeating his Fedor Shuffle in the Fujita fight. Silva/Arona - This is going to be close. I'll say Arona based on the last fight. Ogawa/Yoshida - Yoshida should win. Maybe we'll see our first judo throw KO in PRIDE, that'd be sweet. Nak/Kondo - Kondo should win. Brennan's Nogi USA shorts are actually very good quality shorts. Couture's been away with training with Frank Trigg and Quinton Jackson in LA, taking part in seminars as well as apprently going to Matt Thornton for some pointers. I think he's still TQ, just training outside of his regular camp to improve. He was one of the best guys there and had been training with the same guys for years so I don't think it's so bad if he wants to train elsewhere. When everyone knows your game and you know their one too then you're not going to end up being challenged. Randy does want his belt back so I can't blame him for going to others for extra pointers.

That's pretty tasteless. But maybe I'm reading too much into something with Eddie on it with the words "hook me up".

WON Notes for Dec 6th issue

Do it I think a lot of them are obvious. Lawler, Bradshaw, Viscera, Big Show, Ric Flair seem to be obvious choices. Carlito's been caught in bars before. Jim Ross and Michal Cole are both allegedly nasty drunks. Val Venis, Edge, Christian, The Hardyz and Jericho used to party together. Obviously Nick Dinsmore. The Rock, Shane McMahon and The Dudleyz used to go out on the town together. Juventud has been getting in trouble for his antics on the road so he's likely another. Hardcore Holly has a rep for getting into bar brawls. Randy Orton also springs to mind. Animal can likely drink most of the roster under the table. I also read a couple of years back that Scott Taylor and Brian Lawler got up to good on the road. Hopefully Naked Snake can fill in some gaps.

    WWE Wants Shelton Benjamin's "Mama"

Why not just use his actual mother? As has been pointed out, they clearly showed her in those video packages about Shelton growing up in a bad neighbourhood. For them to seemingly dismiss her and hire an actress instead despite the continuity clash just seems to be incredibly stupid. I can only guess she'll be like mother Klump going "Shelton, Shelton, Shelton!" and beclapping her hands together while Shelton's opponent mocks her. Then Shelton will shout "MOM!" and then for the rest of the match we'll have to endure "That's my boy!" "Ooh Lord don't hurt my child!" and other phrases. After all the crap over the years involving people like Al Wilson, Reid and David Flair, Evad and Nancy Sullivan, the tasteless Guerrero heart attack angle (even more tasteless in hindsight given Eddie's cause of death) etc you'd think someone would have caught on that using wrestlers' families, real or not, is never a good idea. It looks like Shelton is the new Buff Bagwell.
