MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

I remember after seeing Requiem For A Dream in 2001 being absolutely fucking jazzed on whatever Darren Aronofsky had planned next. Upon hearing that he was going to be filming a big-budget movie with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett in the leads I was interested but kinda concerned that the project would collapse under the weight of everything involved. Thank God it did. Pitt and Aronofsky were at odds with each other regarding production issues and Pitt closed up shop and went off to film Troy. Production was shut down and the script was shelved for 2 1/2 years until Darren managed to revive it with a budget that was half of what the original was and Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz (whom he's married to) in the central roles of Thomas and Izzie. When I find a movie I really, really fucking like I try not to go overboard with the typical sayings of "Best ever" and so forth. Having said that, this is one of the most beautiful, heartbreaking movies I've ever seen. If you truly believe in movies having the power to make your heart "heavy" then this one unquestionably made me feel that way. The story takes place in three different time periods. Spain in the time of the Mayan tribes and Christianity invading, the 20th century and hundreds of years after that in the future. The plot is fairly basic while at the same time appearing amazingly complex: It's about a man who will do whatever it takes to save the one he loves from dying. In Spain it is the search for the tree of life, in our time it is about a medical cure for death. The movie cuts between all three periods at random so you never get used to seeing things a certain way. The directing is different from RFAD and Pi. I wouldn't use the phrase "mainstream" as there as still signature Afonofsky stylings but the movie as a whole feels more accessible then his previous work. There are some very interesting effects choices here too, especially during the scenes in space where the surrounding environment is actually micro-photographic shots of chemical reactions on slides under a microscope, which Aronofsky picked because he felt it looked more organic then cg effects. It was released to fairly lukewarm reviews from critics and a poor showing at the box office, neither of which I could give two shits about. This was the most overlooked, underappreciated movie of 2006 and when I look at the five actors who got nominated at the Oscars it's a crime that Hugh Jackman wasn't a part of that group. If you like good movies that challenge your level of thinking, rent this. If not, hey, there's always Pirates 3.

More athletic and explosive. And prone to submissions.

Go to Hooters and watch it. Trust me, you're not going to want to miss out on Griffin/Guida when it goes down.

Do some hotel lurkin'.

Cocksucker. Write a report and post it. And have fun. Is this your first MMA show?
-
You look like Robin Williams knuckles.

Not sure how well 12 will do in Canada considering that no critics will be allowed to view advance screenings of the movie due to Warner Bros. pitching a hissy fit about our lax piracy laws which certainly won't help the drawing power up here.

Knocked Up takes the top spot next week, easily. With the overwhelmingly positive word-of-mouth that's going around there's no way it shouldn't.

Being the glutton for punishment that I am, I'll throw down wit you. Here's some fight suggestions: Fisher/Stout II Franklin/Okami Penn/Pulver II And so that we don't hijack this thread, let's work out the details over PM or something. Who you got, Franklin or Okami? I was going to be a nice guy, but since LOTC caught feelings and has his panties in a bunch like usual, I'm hijacking this wack ass thread with reviews of horrible fights. Caught feelings? Because I called you out on your (now admitted) hijacking of a thread? No wonder this entire board views you as a worthless tool.

The idea is simple. Once a week, a pre-determined poster will post a fight for us all to watch/review and a week after the posting date we'll gather together to discuss the fight. What we liked, didn't like, certain things we notice in a fighters style, whatever. On that same date the next person in line will post their fight, etc. As much as possible, please link the fights in a viewing style that is accessible by most people aka DailyMotion, YouTube etc. I'll give this thread the weekend for people to sign up and see if this takes off or not. I think it could be a really good idea if done right. TSM Fight Club so far is...... Curry Rudo (I know you'll be in so I signed you up)

It should be the power to make everybody around him drunk. Or instead of blood, Guiness runs through his veins.

The Rudd-Rogen exchanges were some of the best of the movie due to them being purely improved and a shout-out to their random arguments in 40YOV. Like gtd said, fantastic fucking movie and one that on an overall level makes a strong case for comedy of the decade.

Main Event for the UFC Light-Heavyweight Championship: Quinton Jackson vs Chuck Liddell Rumoured fights: Josh Burkman vs Karo Parysian, Terry Martin vs Ivan Salaverry, Chris Leben vs Kalib Starnes, Sean Salmon vs Eric Schafer. It's odd that this show's being made given Rampage's comments after the Eastman fight but business-wise this works because it allows for the loser to get a comeback fight in, possibly leading up to a NYE showdown.

Did you come into this thread to not join and barter with Carlito or what?

Dope, dope fight. So much goddamn back and forth. Both guys looked like a million bucks.

Yeah, see....this isn't about turning fights into a picks/betting contest. You giant tool.

So, nobody else but me caught Goldberg calling Houston Alexander a "great natural athlete"? Comedy moment of the night.

The new AFI Top 100, coming June 20th on CBS
Lord of The Curry replied to Downhome's topic in Television & Film
Wow, the official list sucks balls. -
Don't listen to VX, the opening episodes of the season are key to set up what happens near the end.

Christ almighty Downhome, you make a list featuring Something About Mary, Harry Potter and Shakespeare In Love but neglect stuff like Syriana and The Royal Tennanbaums? Yikes. BTW, Syriana meets and beats said criteria more then pretty much any movie listed there. Most slept-on movie of this decade so far. -
EliteXC to run MMA in USA in front of 92K fans

If Sak/Gracie doesn't happen because of Royce not doing his paperwork then this show is officially in the toilet. -
If the spoilers that Rudiger leaked are true, I can't say I'm disappointed. I don't regret reading them either.

There should be extra time added on for "Ass-Whopped by a Black Man". Speaking of, it was a good night for the brothas. Thomas, Martin, Alexander and Rampage all take down whitey.
