We need Tong in here to tell us that Gono @ 170 would give Hughes trouble. At least I recall him saying that in some other thread. -

I had a co-worker of mine who's mildly into mma over the other night and showed him a bunch of fights and he was ready to leave when Bonnar/Griffin popped into my head and I forced him to stay and watch it. I'd say the word "addicted" now covers it. -

I'm not sure how good the cocaine is over in Japan but whatever Sakikabara is on it's giving him delussions of grandeur. Courtesy of MMAWeekley........ Pride DSE president Sakakibara is gunning for the UFC in a big way according to Tokyo Sports newspaper in Japan. Sakakibara’s goal is to bring his show and fighters to America and takeover the UFC. This takeover plan involves his aim to take all the UFC belts and a supershow or an MMA superbowl of sorts. The first part of this takeover plan that was disclosed to Tokyo Sports is to happen in November at UFC 65 when Wanderlei Silva fights the UFC’s Chuck Liddell. And as Pres. Sakakibara puts it his fighters will “devour” all the UFC athletes. On July 8th Sakakibara and Wanderlei Silva attended UFC 61 and the Pride president was impressed with the MMA fervor. But, he said that he wasn’t going to stand idly by as the sport grows in America. He is going to put on a MMA superbowl next summer with plans to hold it in a football stadium. He said that whichever stadium they use it will have a capacity of over 60,000, and if they seat fans on the field it will be over 100,000. Sakakibara is confident with the MMA zeal in America that the stadium will be packed to capacity and that it will even surpass the attendance of the 2002 Dynamite show that was jointly promoted by Pride and K-1. Not only does Sakakibara plan on using a stadium to host his supershow but he mentioned the possibility of using a ring and a cage in the same event. Using the ring for round one, the cage for round two, and the ring for round three. Or vice versa. That way the Pride or UFC fighters can’t have an excuse about what they fought in. But Sakakibara realizes that “ it will be a fierce battle between the promoters.” And, he even expects that the UFC may storm the Pride show in Las Vegas on October 21st. But, his plan is to take all of the UFC belts, as Sakakibara said,” not just Silva alone, but Fedor, Yoshida, Fujita, and Gomi. I’m going to send these guys into the octagon to devour them first.” Starting this Fall, Sakakibara said Pride will start sending fighters to take the UFC titles, and then deliver the finishing blow at the MMA superbowl. Sakakibara stated, “If we take the titles, the UFC will have nowhere to run.” -

His "place" was on a wrestling mat long before a WWE ring, thus making his relationship with MMA closer then anything pro wrestling could give him. -

Wow, is Penn that dejected after the GSP loss that UFC is giving him a guaranteed win? I mean, I would be too but still. Figured they'd give him somebody like Diego, Karo or Fitch. -

I don't think Mir has ever fought on two PPV's in a row so suffice to say he's all kinds of fucked in this one. Vera by crippling leg kicks, late round one/early round two. So assuming we see Monson get the next shot then Vera should be challenging by years end or early 2007. -

They're doing Shammy/Tito on free so Shamrock's retirement speech post-fight can be seen on national cable. Seriously. -
I don't know if anything official has been announced but it's pretty much been a known thing that when Fedor pulled out that the winner of the GP would be his sacrificial lamb on NYE.

I assume you haven't heard of Silva before coming to the UFC. He's already beaten top middleweights, Jeremy Horn, Jorge Rivera, Lee Murray, and now Chris Leben. It's not like he's an inexperence fighter like Nate Quarry. You can make an arguement Silva has better wins then Franklin. Nope, Matt Hughes might able to beat him that time. But 1st he'll have to get past BJ Penn, because GSP will have to fight the winner of TUF4 for the title next. He fought welterweight in TUF3. The TUF IV winners will have to wait a minute because it's generally acknowledged that the winner of Parysian vs Sanchez will be challenging GSP for his newly won WW title. -

Silva/Marquadt on the 64 card for a shot at Franklin in December makes perfect sense to me. Now THAT is a fight where Silva would need to knock the dude out quick or face a night staring at the ceiling. -
Half the budget of Vice was probably spent on the boats and cars.

UFC 62: Babalu Vs. Liddell...

I think you're overrating Franklin and underrating Silva here to be honest. Franklin had difficulty with Jorge Rivera (who's on TUF IV) just under 2 years ago. Silva was above Quarry long before he stepped foot in the octagon and he'd fuck him up maybe worse then Franklin if the two were to go at it. Loiseau/Silva would be a sweet bout, though. Not too much danger in either guy taking it to the mat. -

I'm not underrating Silva's chances so much as I'm pidegonholding them. He's not gonna sub Franklin, not gonna ground and pound him and not decison him, thus leaving a flash KO as his only way of taking it. -

Silva better hope to God that the punch he throws at Franklin has Fedor-like power behind it because otherwise that lanky ma'fucka is being planted on his back and will remain there until Ace chooses how to finish him. It's a shame that this will apparently be Rich's first fight back as I like both guys but cannot under any circumstances root against Franklin. But hey, Joe Riggs isn't doing much these days. Anderson can kill him when he loses.
