Uh, that guy looked safe on that last play.

It's on ESPN right now. I say Gonzalez gets a blooper to break this one up like he did to win that WS for the D-Backs. Or not.
-
How so? They were 40 over .500 on August 7th, and there's a WC to fall back on.
-
Nadal just got his ass handed to him as well. AWE-SOME!
-
Shawn Green just buried the Braves for the year today. 6 hits and 2 HR in today's doubleheader *thumbs up*

Blake just beat the shit out of Berdych. Sadly for James, I think Federer will beat the shit out of Blake in a similar fashion tomorrow night.

The Tigers doing roughly the same thing the White Sox did last year--Racking up lots of wins through mid-August, then slacking off down the stretch towards the playoffs. Only difference being the White Sox didn't have two capable teams chasing them last year. It'll only be a choke if the Tigers don't make the playoffs. With 7 road games down the stretch against the teams chasing them, that's a distinct possibility.
-
Is anyone else beginning to sense that the Tigers might just be completing the biggest chokejob this side of the Yankees lead the Red Sox 3 games to 0?

Some of the night matches (Gasquet/Hewitt included) thus far have been awesome. Tomorrow's finale should be an execution.
-
Jesus Christ himself would not lead the Royals to the playoffs. Anyone could have won at least 2 of those 4 titles given the players the Yankees had between '96 and '00. The Yanks win in spite of Torre's managerial skills, not because of them. Choosing lineups/rotations from a dozen future HOF'ers and handing the ball to Mo is not exactly a difficult decade.

The U(seless) are done for the year yet again on opening day of their season. Woo.
-
Amelie just did me a HUGE favor knocking off Sir-ena P.S. East coast people who want to see Gasquet/Hewitt can do so on CNBC.
-
The TV Guide channel online lists the US Open on USA from 7 PM to 9 PM and RAW from 9 PM to 11 PM which means we'll likely get to see Amelie/Serena, unless it goes over 2 hours. Hewitt/Gasquet will not be seen.

Another fight, another BULLSHIT decision. Peter 116-111 Toney 115-112 Peter 116-111 Peter lost a point, which means two judges saw Peter win NINE rounds in a super close fight. Straight BULLSHIT.

I hope Beltran's just dinged up and that there's nothing seriously wrong with his knee. We didn't need that win as much as we need him for the playoff run.
-
Does San Diego have a Madison Avenue? The US Open is just another place for sponsors to wine and dine prospective clients. That doesn't really work anywhere besides NYC.

You're right, I could come up with a homerific flowing diatribe of why my Mets won again despite no starting pitching tonight. But that would get stale after about the 3rd game. Seriously, giving up 7 to Houston is like letting a normal team score 20. But we won, and reduced the magic number to end the Atlanta run to 15 so I have no complaints. It's a shame that the Reds are choking like dogs considering we've been beating up on the "elite" of the NL Central lately. Oh well, as long as Philly doesn't take the WC I don't really care who does.
-
So your team used up 2/3 of their weekly run support in a loss. Awesome. Reyes was safe in the top of the 9th. Just another blown call by an ump at second.
-
The Yanks are winning this one whether it rains or not. The Twinkies aren't gonna score at least 6 runs in the last 4 innings. Make that 7.
-
Everett's 2 run throwing error should have just secured the Mets the victory tonight since the Asstros can't score 3 runs in one game right?
-
From the meaningless stat department: Alfonso Soriano needs one outfield assist to become the first player to have 40 homers, 30 stolen bases and 20 assists in one season. He would also become the seventh player to record 40 homers and 20 assists in a season; Babe Ruth did it twice.

And that's precisely why I wouldn't say to just hand the title to the Spurs, Mavs or Heat on September 1st. Arguing with CW doesn't work. He doesn't understand the simple logic in that Amare getting 35-40 minutes and 15-20 shots a night takes away those minutes and shots from the emerging stars on his team. There are only 240 minutes per team in a regulation game, and both he and Nash can't just play 24 per night because then they won't be in shape down the stretch. Similarly, if they play enough minutes to get tired by the end of the regular season and Marion and Diaw also get theirs, then the bench gets the table scraps.
-
No one knows if Amare's knee or Nash's back will hold up for 100+ games next year. I'd never pick a team that has its two biggest stars one bump away from missing a substantial part of the season.

Barring injury Palmer will be a HOFer, Leinart won't.
