Mets/Nats May 1st. I called the Lo Duca walk off, I just didn't know it would be by a Nats miscue. I haven't had the time to go to any other games.

I don't like the Astros because they're from Texas. There's nothing good in Texas or from Texas. Adding Clemens just meant that they REALLY deserve my hatred because they seemed to want it so much.
-
Tonight's Mets game was really frustrating. And on a completely unrelated note, just as I was flipping down to ESPN I caught an "A-Rod special". He's now tied with Sheff for #30 all-time in HR.

Where were all those people in 1990? That's right, they were not giving a shit about the dead Rocky franchise.

Papelbum? I'd hardly consider Papelbon to be the problem with the Red Sox right now. Especially when you consider that his ERA is still under 1 (which it has been all season). I realize that you're not that "big" into numbers, so I'll break it down for you. Yanks are 3 (three) games up on the Red Sox...there are still 9 (that's nine) games between the two teams head to head. Now, like I said, you're not big into numbers, but try to follow me here: Yankees are 3 games up over Boston. When they play head to head, that means that which ever team wins gains a game on the team that loses. There are 9 games remaining in head to head competition between the two teams. Hopefully you managed to get that... Hopefully you manage to get this . . . the Sox are getting run by the D-Rays and the Royals aka two of the worst teams in MLB after dropping 2 of 3 against Cleveland. Most importantly the Yankees are hot, and could easily win 6 of 9 and then Boston's dead and buried since Chicago and Minnesota won't both end up tanking the same way Boston is. Winning 6 out of 17 is problematic regardless of how many games are left against the team pulling away from you. But keep being a wiseass as Boston's season is slipping away. If Papelbon struggles at all, and he's due for a bad stretch, they'll be 8 out by September 1st and the last 4 games against the Yanks won't even matter.

I believe you meant in jail or in a casket.

Nice job by Papelbum and the Sawx. I think they're getting pretty close to being d-o-n-e despite not being that far out of the postseason mix. When you might get swept by the fuckin' Royals it's time to panic.

Piazza has 2 solo HR tonight, but the Mets lead 4-2, so it's all good.

That's why I'm scratching my head about these talking heads wanting to give him the trophy this year. Jeter '99 slays Jeter '06, and Jeter' 99 got nowhere near the MVP that year as he finished 6th.
-
He'd probably be better if he wasn't arrested... How can this dumbass live any sort of a productive life, now. Hey, the cops stopped him before he murdered someone. Even if he didn't kill someone today it was only a matter of time before he shot someone for their wallet. The guy might be able to get out in 10-15 years as opposed to a life sentence. Dude's lucky in my eyes.
-
I agree Jeter deserves to be in discussion. He just doesn't deserve to WIN the MVP. Especially not when Ortiz is on pace to have a better year this year than last and the guy seemingly wins a game by himself for the Sox every week.
-
Neither Howard nor Berkman are putting up numbers that warrant MVP consideration on a losing team. Considering 84 wins is likely to be enough to get the WC, if they can't lead their teams to that many wins they shouldn't even be in the discussion. If they put up a season of Pujols pre-injury numbers for 162 games that's one thing, but they won't do any better than Andruw Jones last year and that's not going to warrant them finishing higher than Beltran and Pujols who each missed a couple of weeks and still have equally gaudy stats on winning teams. The point is if Ortiz loses to another Yankee because of the defense argument, then why even bother allowing people to vote for DHs. Jeter's numbers aren't even impressive, how or why people think he deserves the MVP is beyond me. Oh wait, I forgot about the "intangibles". My bad.
-
I think the NL MVP will end up being Beltran because his numbers will be better than Wright or Reyes, but I'm not sure he's the most valuable Met. If St. Louis ends up with a better record than the Mets then my vote would be for Pujols. Howard and Berkman's teams won't even finish at .500 so they don't deserve consideration. If you can't even win half of your games with an "MVP candidate", how much worse would you have done without them? Ortiz deserves the MVP and if Jeter ends up with it they should just rename it the AL MVY.

Johnny Damon's cannon of a left arm allows Chicago to win as he 4 hops a ball home

Manny's up now as the go ahead run with 1 out as Papi draws a walk. EDIT: He pulled an A-Rod aka struck out looking. Boston loses 6-4 on a force out by that Greek guy. The chokejob continues!
-
Not yet, they're down 6-4 in the bottom of the 8th to the Royals. If Liriano hadn't gotten hurt Boston would be dead because they'd be trying to chase Minny and the ChiSox. Now they just need to worry about one team down the stretch.

Who would have guessed that Mo would blow a 1 run lead and Wagner would save one on the same night?

Rocky VI will be lucky to make $50 million domestic, and the only reason it'll do better than #5 is that tickets cost a shitload more in 2006 than they did in 1990. It would cost me at least $11 or 12 to go see this movie anywhere near where I live. Back in 1990, tickets were probably in the $6 or 7 range at best and there were still matinee options for half of that even in Manhattan.
-
Not that I want to feed the troll, but here's some info to digest. Rocky I - $117.235 Million in 1976 Rocky II - $71.2 in 1979 Rocky III - $122.823 in 1982 Rocky IV - $127.874 in 1985 Rocky V - $40.950 in 1990 The last movie tanked miserably and was 16 years ago. No one besides you gives a shit about the Rocky Balboa character or story especially since in the MOVIE he can't string together a coherent sentence, and even the character has to be at least 48 years old since the first movie was THIRTY years ago. In a similar way that no one wants to see Evander Holyfield fight anymore, no one in their right mind will want to go see this steaming turd.
-
To answer the question, Dreamgirls will do $20-30 million its first week. Rocky will do half of that. The 5th movie in that "franchise" was the drizzling shits and the character already had brain damage. How much can they do to make the 6th movie any better? At least with Dreamgirls there will be SOME positive reviews even if it's just for individual performances. There's nothing potentially exciting about seeing Stallone who has got to be pushing 60 playing a retarded boxer, unless of course you're going strictly to watch his body. Even then, I don't see anyway this movie makes money.
-
Vernon gets his ass whipped for the majority of the fight, gets deducted a point for a low blow and still wins a unanimous decision. I'm glad I stopped watching boxing. That "sport" is more rigged than wrestling.
-
Maybe he actually, you know, likes playing for the Mets and thinks $5.625 million per is enough to feed his kids. Not everyone in sports is a greedy bastard.

It's a defensive award and he had a good defensive year. Jeter's won them. Palmeiro won a gold glove in 1999 after only playing in 28 games at first base. Ellis Burks won one too. So did Jay Buhner. Let those sink in. Yeah, because there isn't a player in baseball (David Ortiz excluded) who doesn't lose games for his team. You do realize you're proving the point that GG's are a useless measuring stick of defensive ability. You and CW have a similar level of reading comprehension so it doesn't surprise me that you both can't comprehend that Abreu's lack of hustle in the outfield is a problem. The guy will not go hard for a ball if it's anywhere near the wall and when you play on the same team as Jeter who nearly crippled himself for a foul ball in a "meaningless" regular season game (albeit against Boston), it's only a matter of time before Abreu pulling up 20 feet short gets him booed by the Yankee Stadium "faithful". Abreu's nonchalant style couldn't play in Philly, what makes you think it'll work in the Bronx?
-
2 years prior to Abreu winning the GG, Jose Cruz Jr. won one. Let that sink in. Aside from Andruw Jones and Jim Edmonds winning them every year it doesn't really matter who gets the 3rd, it just has to be a corner outfielder. You Yankees fans will get sick of Abreu in time, so don't take my word for it until he costs you a game by not hustling for a ball in the gap or near the wall.
