You can say the same thing about Manny Ramirez. Does that mean that Manny sucks too? He half-heartedly runs out grounders. And he can be pretty lazy in the field. It's all in the eye of the beholder. People choose to see Abreu as a loafer. He's a pretty damn productive loafer... Bobby Abreu's 162 game average season: .303 23 HR 95 RBI, .411 OBP/.512 SLG Manny Ramirez' 162 game average season: .314 42 HR 136 RBI, .409 OBP/.599 SLG Abreu's fielding pct = .982 Manny's fielding pct. = .977 Abreu has 88 assists in 1307 games or 1 every 14.85 games Manny has 102 in 1433 or 1 every 14.04 games Manny's not that much worse in the field but infinitely more productive with the stick. If I'm gonna be stuck with a lazy ass, let him hit 40+ HR's a year and knock in 130+. Cliff Floyd and Bobby Abreu don't have the "right" to be lazy especially when Abreu's one of the most overpaid guys in the league relative to his production.
-
So we're talking about Cliff Floyd now? I'm pretty sure Abreu is a better than Sheffield at RF. Cliff Floyd is not an "elite" player, and Sheffield at least tries in the outfield. When Abreu costs the Yankees a game against Boston because he slows up 20 feet shy of the wall and the ball lands on the warning track you'll remember this day.
-
Just let Cena experience Abreu half jogging after a ball hit to the short porch, then misplaying it into a "triple", when an adequate RF would have caught it. Anyone who has seen him playing regularly KNOWS that he is a loafer who would not hustle if it meant saving his life.

Seriously, now that they've kissed and made up, I don't care think they warrant a big special Christmas game. A rematch of the NBA Finals on this date would have been better. Uh, Wade, Shaq and Kobe in the same game will do a much better rating than Wade, Shaq and Dirk would have. That's basically all you need to know as to why that game is taking place. I would have gone with Miami/Cleveland myself, but I'm not calling the shots.

The Knicks should be roughly 10 games under .500 by the end of November. The only team I'm confident they can beat is Atlanta and that's a road game. They've got both games with the Spurs and Rockets that month, as well as 2 against Cleveland and Chicago, and road games at Miami, Memphis, and Denver. A good month with that schedule is 4-13. Hopefully Isiah's gone by the AS break.

He's no A-Rod You are correct. Ortiz fails every so often with the game on the line, whereas A-Rod is (an) automatic (out) in the same situation.

Big time players make big plays in big games/situations. All hail Papi!

I'm now NOT a fan of the move to get rid of Nady since we didn't get Linebrink. Bah.
-
But the Cubs still have Prior and Wood, which means they're WS contenders in 2007 bay-bee! Dusty will still be the manager, Wrigley will still get 81 sellouts, the team will still suck ass, and you two guys will still be miserable. There's nothing that can change until management does.
-
Yeah, but one of them was traded for a white boy. So all in all it was just a +1 Latino for Los Mets.
-
I don't mind giving up Nady for what amounts to Hernandez and Linebrink. Lastings might not be ready, but with Sanchez done for the year thanks to a Yankee fan driving the cab we needed 8th inning help and those two should provide it. There's no guarantee that Chavez won't see most of the PT anyway and he's given us a lot this year. With Floyd seemingly finally finding his stroke I'll gladly take 2 solid bullpen arms for an expendable outfielder. Had Sanchez not been hurt, I don't know what they might have done because we really needed a starter. I think they may try to slot Heilman in as a starter which is why they didn't trade him.
-
It's too bad the Mets don't have Kaz Matsui anymore, maybe we could have traded him for Utley, Burrell and Howard right before the deadline. It'd be nice not to have to worry about Pat hitting 6 HRs against us this week.
-
But the Islanders are from Long Island so they don't count. The Knicks and Rangers play in the MECCA.
-
Phuck the Phillies. Buncha phaggots. Just when it seemed a postseason without Derek Jeter was possible they basically bent over and took it up the ass just so the Yankees could contend again. I hate baseball economics.
-
Until Steinbrenner dies is my guess. 9/11 was almost 5 years ago and they're still doing this shit at every home game.
-
So Ortiz gets the GW hit, A-Rod fails in the clutch and the sky is still blue. The sad thing is if the Yanks had been up 12-5 at the time, he'd probably have hit a mammoth GS to deep right center.

Does anyone in the history of MLB have a weaker outfield arm than Johnny Damon? Dude just "fired" a two hopper to Posada from a few paces behind the infield, the first hop hitting roughly near the back edge of the pitcher's mound. Is it really possible that there are little leaguers out there with better arms than the CF for the New York Yankees?

Looks like Francouer should have kept his mouth shut when he predicted the Braves would catch the Mets. Try not to get swept at home first Jeffy.
-
Somebody on the Braves needs to go down hard for Hudson hitting Delgado on the knee and taking him out of the game.

Alf's lists seem to be more thorough and fair across the generational gap from pre-Jordan until now. The fact that guys like Ewing and Nash (the two main ones I noticed at first glanced) aren't in their positional top 10 is something that I was trying to argue when saying they don't really belong in the greatest 50 players of all time. The one question I would ask is, does anyone think that a case can be made that Oscar Robertson is the greatest individual talent in NBA history even though his career doesn't match up with guys like Jordan, Magic or Wilt?

The Dutch have a pretty sizable presence in the Caribbean in terms of Aruba and Curacao. If you ever see the LLWS, the team from Curacao or the Netherlands Antilles always seems to be full of really dark skinned ballplayers with Scandinavian names. Why a Dominican is named Robinson is beyond me, but that's my explanation.

We finally beat the Cubs. Yay?

Re-read your post and explain to me why Iverson can't be the casualty. You state that they were two whole years removed from being a #4 seed in the East when they traded for Webber. They weren't a contender, and they certainly aren't now that a couple years have passed and they have a couple more with these guys under contract. The Sixers (and their fans) have to decide what they want. Do you want to fight for an 8th seed every year, or do you want to start rebuilding now with the intent to really compete 3-5 years down the road. McKie, Mashburn and Webber will all be off the books by the end of '08 season. If you can move Iverson for a package of young players with upside, draft picks and short-term contracts, you are in a position to have a solid base in just two years. Exactly. The Sixers are trying to do what the Knicks were planning on doing every year, barely make it to an 8th seed, get 2 playoff home games and continue to die under the burdens of having a multitude of untradable contracts that only made the team marginally better. If they don't dump AI while he still has value they'll just end up with him being their version of Allan Houston WHEN, not if he breaks down eventually. Tanking a year isn't the worst thing in the world when they might be able to pick up a franchise type player in next year's draft. At worst, they shed big bucks off of their cap and can enter the LeBron/Wade/'Melo etc sweepstakes in 3 years.

And the gap between Isiah Thomas and Billy King continues to diminish.
