How can any player win the league wide MVP (A-Rod 2005) when he's not even close to the most valuable player on his team (Rivera)? Are sportswriters really that stupid?
-
How the fuck do you give up EIGHT runs to the Cubs without Lee in the lineup?
-
The guy needs to be planting his seed IN someone, not with them. I'm amazed he hasn't killed himself yet.
-
A-Rod can be the hero here. I predict a 6-4-3 DP or his 3rd K.
-
True, but this is DEREK JETER, not an ordinary mortal my friend. Derek. Jeter.
-
But I thought he was the greatest teammate in the history of team sports? CF is EASIER to play than SS, and he sucks at short so instead of upgrading 2 positions and saving money he went and forced the Yankees to spend multimillions on Damon, all while having the worst defensive left side of the infield of all contending teams, and a CF'er who can't run balls down or throw more than 75 feet in the air.

I don't have beef with you. I just enjoy seeing them struggle despite re-signing "The Messiah". You'd think that a horrendous offensive team would have tried to get a bat instead of a 40+ year old pitcher who can only give them at most 17 starts down the stretch. I'm an ardent anti-Clemens guy since he tried to kill Piazza twice. The joke was that Texans hate the gays, not that they are gay.
-
But when he started playing well they stopped booing him. It's not our fault that you guys are spoiled and think you need to go 162-0 and win the WS every year. I thought Texans frowned on men kissing other men's grits?

Mets fans don't go to Shea to BOO Pedro. See the difference? Los Mets def. the Asstros 4-3. Choke on that viva! It'll be nice to see Houston and Atlanta out of the postseason mix this year.
-
I'd say at least half of the fans would gladly support the Yankees dumping A-Rod. The last time a NY baseball player was hated this much his name was Bobby Bonilla and this was after the media wiped the smile off of his face. I don't believe an MVP winner was ever booed as heartily by the home team the following season as A-Rod has been. It's not "slump heat". It's legit hatred. And if 1 in 5 of the people who go to the stadium boo him, and you admit they "aren't real fans anyway", what does that say about the average Yankee fan? They go where the weather is fair.

The X-Man gets shit done with a 3 run BOMB to deep left. 4-3 Los Mets.
-
Reyes just got jobbed by the 2nd base ump since that was a steal. I've seen more missed calls at 2nd at Shea this season than any other base I can remember.
-
I wonder how marvin feels about that Russ Ortiz acquisition tonight. Not that he was ever great, but it's looking a lot like doughboy used to be on the gas.
-
The Asstros just got 4 hit shutout by John Maine. Perhaps a bat would have been a better pick up than a guy who can only help every 5th day at best.
-
Cliff Floyd just stole a HR from Chris Burke, and vivalaultra continues to weep.
-
The Mets end up with another Grand Slam this week as Jose Valentin gives them a 4-0 lead. It's about time we started getting some hits with the bases loaded. A-Rod just lost a ball in the "twilight". LMAO. And follows it up with an error on a routine grounder. LMAO x2
-
At least he's consistent. Dude flat out stole $21 million from Steingrabber's pockets. A-Rod's having a great first inning also, with his knees buckling on a 3rd strike call with a RISP and 2 out, and then having a ball go right by him from Toronto's leadoff man.

Steve Nash 9,495 points 13.5 PPG 5,006 assists 7.1 APG Mark Jackson 12,489 points 9.6 PPG 10,334 assists 8.0 APG Rod Strickland 14,463 points 13.2 PPG 7,987 assists 7.3 APG Tim Hardaway 15,373 points 17.7 PPG 7,095 assists 8.2 APG Are any of those others all-time greats? Nash would need at least two more full seasons to match Jackson's point total and the assists are out of reach. Nash = Strickland statistically if he can last maybe 4 or 5 more seasons. Hardaway's numbers are also likely to be unreachable in either category. I don't think anyone in their right mind thinks any of the other three guys deserve to be in this discussion, and I don't think Nash does either.

He was deemed the MOST VALUABLE. Many people who voted for Nash have said that others were the BEST in the league during both seasons, which is why I don't understand the purpose of the award when others won it simply for being the BEST (Duncan) in a year when someone else was clearly more VALUABLE (Kidd). The fact that Nash will retire with more MVP's than Shaq is just the height of idiocy.
-
Stockton is only the ALL-TIME leader in NBA history in steals and assists by MILES (~5,500 assists which in and of itself would make him top 35, and 750 steals). Nash has had 2 "all-time" seasons and will not end up with an all-time career because he's already on the wrong side of 30 and has back problems. To rate him as a top 50 talent in NBA history is absurd because nothing backs it up besides two MVP trophies which are heavily disputed. If Shaq had won it two years ago and Dirk/Kobe/LeBron/Wade had this year Nash isn't in anyone's mouth when picking the top 50 of all-time as evidenced by his omission on the list that added the next 10 guys this year. In case you missed it here are the guys that were picked Tim Duncan Kobe Bryant Dominique Wilkins Allen Iverson Bob McAdoo Kevin Garnett Reggie Miller Connie Hawkins Jason Kidd Gary Payton That doesn't even take into account the guys who will obviously join that list barring injury like the 4 guys I mentioned as better MVP candidates this year. Two "great" seasons doesn't make you one of the best 50 players in the history of your sport.
-
You can definitely put him in the top 100 of all time; he's already good enough to be a top 10 PG of all time. His career numbers are 13 and 7, very good FG%, one of the best all time FT%, 2 time All-NBA Third Team, 2 time All-NBA First Team, 2 time MVP, and a 4 time All-Star. He's had 6 straight all-star type years; his first few years bring his numbers down. Compared to Lenny Wilkens, a Hall of Famer, who put up 16 and 7, was a one time MVP, and a 9 time All-Star. Steve Nash is easily in the top 100 of all time. 13 & 7 is not top 100 of all time. The 2 MVP's is the only thing that puts him in the discussion and cases can be made that he really didn't deserve either. I don't even go as far back as the pre-Jordan era but I have a hard time putting Nash in the top 50 players of the last 20-25 years. That's all I'm saying.
-
Too much weight is placed on being an MVP. Aside from that, Nash's stats wouldn't even put him in the discussion for top 100 of all time. There should be more weight put on All-NBA 2nd and 3rd teams than All-Star teams assuming you only meant All-NBA 1st team nods. Other than that I don't really see too much to complain about.

Since I'm sure you know and I don't feel like doing the research, was Al an even up swap for Stephen Jackson, or were some other parts/picks involved?
-
Nobody actually likes the Devils except Barron, right? Pretty much. Same thing with the Nets. Even with the Devils winning multiple Stanley Cups and the Nets making it to back to back NBA Finals they still have about 7 fans each. I think that could change though if the Nets do end up moving to Brooklyn and the Knicks still suck as much as they do right now.
-
No, that's precisely why I despise the franchise. As a kid growing up in the '80s when the Yankees sucked ass, their "fans" were few and far between, now you've got people out there who have "loved the team since birth" but only when they're winning titles. I've KNOWN people who were Mets fans back then who now swear on a Bible that they are diehard Yankees supporters and always have been. This is true of virtually any franchise in professional sports. That may be true, but in a two team town the effect is tenfold. It's one thing for everyone I know to "forget" that they too used to love the Knicks, but it's something else when people ride the hot team for a while, and then pretend like the other one was their favorite all along. It's the same thing with Giants & Jets fans who fluctuate season by season depending on how well things are going after about week 7 or 8. The only sport where I don't really see this happening in NYC is hockey. Rangers fans are always Rangers fans and Islanders fans are always Islanders fans and winning 4 straight Stanley Cups didn't do anything to change the perception that the franchise from LI is "inferior".
