Yes I have. I owned it for a while, but it was one of a handful of CDs that got destroyed when I moved. I actually don't mind Radiohead and think they're a very good group. I just grow tired of the people who proclaim them as one of those handful of essential groups in the history of music. To be fair though, I feel that same way about the Stones, Springsteen, the Beatles etc. I probably gave off the wrong edge, but I'm just curious WHY people think that Radiohead is on that level because no one ever answers that question. The assumption is that if I don't understand it when the statement is made, then clearly there's no reason trying to explain it. I also think Eminem is overrated, but I can at least see WHY certain people say that he made a huge impact on the culture and music industry over a period of a few years.

That's a ridiculous statement. Had I ever seen Jerry Garcia I would have at least known who he was and that's as someone who doesn't listen to GD music. He was a cultural icon. Thom Yorke on the other hand could be sitting next to me on the train on any day or night, and I might not recognize him. The reason I claim Radiohead is overrated by fans is because I know too many of them who claim that were it not for Radiohead then surely the music would have died.

Not that I'm trying to be a dick, but you don't think the WC can come from the East because of the Sawx/Yanks/Jays beating each other up, but you think the Central might get it when Detroit/ChiSox/Indians will be beating each other up in much the same fashion. Granted those 19 games against KC are pretty much layups, but if any of those 6 teams struggles against their division rivals they're pretty much dead. I think it's much more likely the Jays fade than the Central contenders and that we get Boston, New York, Chicago and AL West "winner" in the playoffs again.

No, but everyone out there at least knows about the Grateful Dead. Everyone would have recognized Jerry Garcia if they saw him on the street while he was alive. I can't name a song the Dead performed, but they made an impact on the culture for hippies and non hippies alike. In essence, they made a dent outside of their niche. Radiohead most definitely doesn't have that kind of cache. But, that was a good example so kudos. I'm still waiting for someone to explain why Radiohead is even in this discussion. Seriously.

Young pitching inevitably becomes tired pitching sometime around late July/early August. I can't worry too much about a team when the bulk of their rotation isn't used to throwing ~200 innings, especially when they become more pressure packed down the stretch. The Tigers are also a Kenny Rogers meltdown away from having their season turned on its ear. I think the Tigers will win 85 to 88 games, but that's not enough to win the WC in the AL.

The site I looked at has Radiohead with 3 platinum albums, 3 gold ones, and 2 that didn't sell even 500,000 copies. What other generation defining artists had sales as abysmally low as Radiohead? When you can find one, then I'll agree with you that they're that important to the musical landscape. When about 1 million people buy your best work, and that's the extent of the audience you've reached in a career dating back to 1993, you are quite simply put, NOT defining anything to anyone but that miniscule group of people who like your music. To counter your Alanis argument, if comparatively speaking no one has cared about Radiohead for the last 13 years, what does it matter where they'll be in 5 years? And again, where is the "cultural resonance" Radiohead has? I can't recall anything they've done that entered the public consciousness. It's OK to be a fan of a group, but you're grossly overstating their impact on anyone outside of yourself and other fans of the band at this point.

Not that I really care to argue, but in what way was OK Computer or Kid A "massive"? Each album only went platinum, and I don't think either album had a single that made any chart of note. Don't you have to have at least SOME commercial success to be a defining artist? I don't think Radiohead have sold more than 5 or 6 million albums in their entire career which includes 7 albums and an EP. Cultural resonance outweighs commercial status. Though sales are important, they simply aren't the only thing going into this. What cultural resonance does Radiohead have if they have no commercial success? People need to know who you are before they can hear your message. I'd go so far as to say that a wider range of people have heard a complete piece of shit like Ashlee Simpson's music than Radiohead. Go to any random sampling of 100 people outside of a Radiohead concert and ask them whose music they're more familiar with and I'd guess that it's at least 85/15 for Eminem. Eric is just being hardheaded, I'm posing a legitimate question.

No one cares about Radiohead now. I see you were addressing someone else, but the point still stands.

And there have been many better singers/songwriters than guys listed as the "defining" artists of previous generations, so who really gives a shit if Eminem is the best rapper of all time if he's still the guy that best represents the music industry over the last 5-10 years which is the point of this conversation. Given that 90% of people wouldn't be able to name a Radiohead single, album or member of the band I find it laughable that you guys are suggesting that they're that important.

Reyes with a 3 run bomb to tie it. That's got to make Phillies fans nauseous
-
Not that you all didn't know this, but Jeremi Gonzalez fucking sucks. 2 HRs allowed (Abreu & Howard) already, Burrell missed one by about 3 feet, and the Mets again trail 3-0 Top 1. This guy needs to get taken out to the barn already.

Hey, Al Leiter was a mediocre pitcher and he's mediocre in the booth, so it only makes sense that he has mediocre taste in women. Raise your glass for Al Leiter, a shining example of complete mediocrity.

If Miami wins tonight the Pistons won't win the series. Their fatigued legs and minds won't get any more rested, and since the horrible Flip Squanders only plays with a 6 man rotation it's not like he can go to the bench for a spark.
-
And that's why they're the Atlanta Hawks. Someone needs to let the Hawks and Raptors know that it's OK to draft someone who doesn't play the 4.

I knew those two missed layups by Harris back to back would cost them the game. Dallas likes blowing leads late. I can't possibly stomach a Suns championship run, and that seems possible now since Dallas hasn't shed their choker status and they always get bullshit calls against them down the stretch.
-
Nice jersey pull by Nash on Dirk. Not that it mattered since that pass was 3 feet out of bounds.
-
Nice chokejob by Dallas again.
-
watch it again he grabbed Nash's arm That's not a foul inside of the last minute of an NBA game in the regular season, much less the postseason. He was 35 feet from the hoop at the time.
-
I don't recall a postseason in any sport where the refs have decided more games than this NBA run. Harris didn't do anything to warrant a charge. I'm sure Dallas will get hit with another offensive foul on this possession too.
-
Nash just got away with a charge, so there you go. Raja's gone. Woo. Yay! Let's cheer for the misery and pain of another person! As someone who would probably have ejaculated if Kobe or LeBron had pulled up lame, I don't think you should be the guy to make that statement.

I wonder if Bell's hurt. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would come out of a game for a cramp or something Shawn Marion like. I told you Harris and Terry would make life miserable for Nash.

Do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight! I got home just in time to watch Wagner slay the Phillies again.

El Duque is a better bandaid than Lima or Gonzalez. Once Bannister and Maine are healthy we'll have a better clue of how the back end looks and El Duque is a more than adequate reliever in the mold of Heilman who could very easily slip back into the rotation down the road now that they have a comparable guy in his place. He gives the Mets more flexibility and we know the pressure won't get to him. I expect Pelfrey to be up after the AS break anyway, so as long as his back doesn't explode we should be fine just giving up Julio to get him.
