  1. The TLC bumps go down in my mind as the greatest example of sheer stupidity by the guys taking them since there were so many bumps in rapid fire. It was entertaining as fuck though. Even something "benign" like Edge or Christian taking the crotch bump on the ropes off of a ladder could have gone very wrong as Edge's TLC match with Flair proved. I'm amazed no one involved ended up getting a crippling injury during one of those matches. If someone had channeled the spirit of Lita for even a moment we might have seen someone break their neck/back or die out there.
  2. If you're talking about KOTR 98, the fall through the cage was totally unplanned, as was the chair falling onto his face. I thought that was pretty common knowledge by now. The Hell in a Cell with HHH; the fall through the cage was planned, that's why the ring was gimmicked. OK, I remembered spots from the two different matches but forgot they were from different matches. Thanks for the clarification since that was the planned cage bump I was talking about.
  3. I know the cage broke, but didn't Foley fall on a part of the mat that was gimmicked? I haven't seen the spot in a while and don't really remember it all that well since I think it's one of the most overrated matches of all time. Marty Jannetty went through some glass many moons again, and while that might have been a big bump back then, now it's pretty minor at least in my mind. I also despise Shane McMahon so I'm likely biased when I hear people talk about him with such glowing praise as a bumper or wrestler.

    This week in the NBA

Michael Olowokandi is a bigger bust that Kwame. At least Kwame potentially had an upside. The Kandy man was relatively useless even in college.
  5. Shane's taken some pretty spectacular bumps. They were all contrived (jumping onto crash pads) or accidental, for instance the spot where Angle tried to throw him through glass I think only for it not to break causing Shane to fall on his head wasn't a bump he planned so he doesn't get credit for that as there's a huge difference between a botched spot and a bump as someone else mentioned. Clearly Foley didn't accidentally fall off of the cage or through the cage into a gimmicked part of the mat so those are legit bumps.
  6. Too bad that won't help Edge look like anything more than the transitional champ he didn't want to be. Either getting squashed by Trips or not competing for the title until Trips drops it late this year (Survivor Series maybe?) or at next year's WM won't help matters.

Not when you are only up by a very slight margin, with time on the clock, against an Indy-Peyton Manning offense. The Polamalu call put the ball back in Indy's possession so the pressure was on the Steeler defense and they came through, along with the Gods intervening with the missed field goal. Seattle had seven points taken away from them with the defensive PI call - a call which was technically the right call, isn't called that much but happened to be called in the biggest game of the year. It wasn't as if the official made up the receiver taking his arm to push the defender away. It was clearly evident, right in front of him and not even necessary because I think he would've broke open anyway. You can moan that 'he didn't push him that hard' but it was a push regardless of the force. The holding call after the completion to the 2 yd line was the only call I'm in agreement with as being a bad call. Perhaps the chop block too but Pittsburgh had the momentum with the pick by that time. That call didn't take points away from Seattle. They would have had the ball down to the 2 yd line without the holding call but there is no guarantee that they would have scored seven on that drive and three would have made it a one possession game but that reverse pass was in the Steelers play book to be called and I have every reason to believe that Seattle's D would have still fallen for it, making it a one possession and necessary two point conversion to even tie the game. The biggest difference maker was the six points Seattle should have had had they made those field goals. Nothing to do with officiating. The 15 yard penalty gave them the ball near midfield. The tackle took place at somewhere around the 28 yard line. I don't doubt Cowher would have called the trick play, but I don't know if he does it inside of his own 30. The holding call was the big difference in the game to me because Seattle would have had 3 plays from the 2 yard line. They easily could have thrown a pick that went back 100+ for a TD, but they didn't have the chance. The right team won, but Pittsburgh did get the benefit of every questionable call in that game.

The phantom hold on the Stevens catch to the 2 didn't, neither did the low block on a tackle call which was right after that when Hasselbeck threw the pick on 3rd and long. Seattle was poised to go up 17-14 at that point, and got it back to 14-10 due to Herndon's pick.

Pittsburgh was up when they got victimized by the horrible Polamalu call. Seattle ended up having points taken away due to a multitude of calls. I don't disagree that Seattle SHOULD have overcome them, but it's much easier to beat bad calls when you're on the plus side of the score and it's the 4th quarter than it is when you're trailing.

    ROH guarantees something HUGE

With all due respect to William Regal, who I admire as a complete worker, how is he something "huge"?

    Super Bowl XL

Yes, there were some horrible calls in that game....but the fact is that, after all these bad calls, Seattle was only down 14-10 at the start of the 4th quarter and had a whole 15 minutes to score just once to take the lead, but they played like shit and got nothing. Seattle lost that game, no one else lost it for them. I don't disagree with you, but the phantom hold that took back a play that would have got the ball at the Pittsburgh 2 happened in the 4th quarter if I remember correctly. Hasselbeck promptly threw a pick a couple of plays later on 3rd and long. If Seattle scores and goes up 17-14, or even kicks a field goal it's a one possession game. In any case, Seattle didn't deserve to win, but then again neither did Pittsburgh.

The Super Bowl is SUPPOSED to have the best officials the league has to offer, an all star crew if you will. If those boobs were the best the league's got, well then they need a whole new set of officials next year because the "best" were downright awful.

Well losing a SB in controversial fashion will do that, especially with a team that no one thought really belonged there.

Seattle plays in the worst division in football. Alexander really came up small in the postseason, so if they can get someone like Edge to replace him if he too decides to hit the FA market they can get back simply because they all but have one of the top 3 seeds locked up playing in the NFC west for 6/16 of their games. I don't think they'll make it, but it's possible thanks to their cupcake division and the fact they can conceivably approximate Alexander with another running back given their O-line.

    ROH guarantees something HUGE

Easy. The first three matches will convince you to stay, regardless of who/what the mystery is. It wasn't said that this deal will be a main event, it could easily occur in the early part of the show. ROH doesn't need to do this, the ticket refund part. It's just Gabe adding extra emphasis to show how big this will be, that he will do this. If you purchased a ticket odds are it wasn't solely for Low Ki's match. However, if it was, but you want to know what the announcement is, the only way for you not to get baited into staying is for Gabe to do the reveal before the refund offer expires. If he does it before then, fair play. If he waits until afterwards that's kind of sleazy.
  16. naiwf

    Super Bowl XL

Yeah, but that doesn't mean they would have made it.

    ROH guarantees something HUGE

That deal doesn't really sound like a major offer because unless he does the "big reveal" before the end of the 3rd match, how will you know who it is to see if you want a refund or not?

    Tennis thread - February.

I agree Elena wouldn't be consistent but she'd be the person no one would want to face in case the good version came to play that day. If she had a good serve, ie the kind of serve someone about 5'11 should have she'd be a better version of Mauresmo and she's been top 5 forever it seems. The way I tend to look at men's tennis is to just assume Federer and Nadal are the clear cut 2 best on the planet right now. Do I really think Roddick, Davydenko and Ljubicic are the next best three out there? No way. Sadly, everyone else in the game is either old/seen better days, mentally weak or as inconsistent as Elena.

It's Jeff Jarrett. He is the NWA World Heavyweight Champion at the end of the day. I just wonder if Gabe would trick people into thinking it's someone who can work and then just bring in a "name" like JJJ. I'd buy the tape/DVD just to see the crowd verbally abuse him.

    Tennis thread - February.

From what I read elsewhere Dementieva brought her A+++++ game and made Martina look like a scrub. I wish Elena could serve because she'd easily be the most versatile/talented player in the game. Tommy Haas won the tournament Agassi should have, and Ljubicic wins another tourney that no one else in the top 5 would even be playing. Granted it was in his homeland of Croatia but he and Davydenko are the most glaring examples of "over-ranked" players in men's tennis.

Yep, which means even more horribly botched calls next season. I just can't believe every analyst is towing the company line on those horrible calls. Is Jaws gonna get hit with a fine for calling a spade a spade on officiating? Awful game, awful outcome. Revisionist history though will ensure that Bettis, Cowher and Big Ben all go to the HoF 1st ballot because of it though. Bleh.

If you thought the Peyton hype was bad just wait until next year. You'd think Big Ben rewrote the guide on how to play the position. Holmgren is officially the drizzling shits as a play caller.

Now Big Ben is destined for Canton thanks to having the zebras in his hip pocket and making Trent Dilfer look like Dan Marino.

The one thing I'm looking forward to is Mike and The Mad Dog tomorrow because they usually get the head of officials Mike Perreira (?) on to discuss all of the blown calls in the prior week. I wonder if Mikey P. might just end up being "sick" tomorrow.
