    Kobe or LeBron

Well Patrick Ewing and Bill Russell average out to 5 rings each, but that doesn't mean anything. So far in the history of the game only 2 guys have led their teams to more than 3 championships. Duncan might be the next and last guy to ever lead his team to 4+. The problem with LeBron is that unless he ends up hooking up with a KG or someone of that ilk he's not going to win a championship anytime in the next 4 or 5 seasons because even when Shaq calls it quits, Duncan will still be there and his game is suited to last longer than a guy like Shaq's in the first place. Honestly, what team could LeBron play for right now that would be a title contender just because of his addition? Without Shaq, or Duncan there's no team outside of Detroit that people are even thinking have a shot at winning the championship.

What an effort by Schnyder. There are about 5 women's players in the game right now that will always be ranked at the top barring injury since basically everyone from 6 down is a quitter. At least THE matchup of the tourney will be on sooner than later as a result. I fully expect Mauresmo's throat will constrict regardless of who wins though.

    Smackdown spoilers for 1/27/06

I'm guessing Boogey got involved in the JBL match otherwise they really think he sucks if he can't beat S2H quickly and cleanly. Angle chumping MNM doesn't work for me, but at least Mark Henry continues to win.

What does this mean for Smackdown?

WB stations to join CW, UPN stations to NOT join CW: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Houston, Miami, Denver, St. Louis, Portland (Ore.), Indianapolis, San Diego, Hartford, New Orleans and Albany. UPN stations to join CW, WB stations to NOT join CW: Philadelphia, San Francisco, Atlanta, Detroit, Tampa, Seattle, Sacramento, Pittsburgh, West Palm Beach, Norfolk, Oklahoma City and Providence. The status of affiliates in other television markets has not been determined/announced. sorry, but that the hell does all this mean? I live in LA - so am I getting CW AND UPN? Am I getting Smackdown on CW from then on? I am so perplexed! I live in New York, so we're in the same grouping. What I think it means is that our UPN affiliate is going to become some other channel while the WB will become the new CW. For me that means the Mets would stay on while the network Yankee games would get lost. Works for me

Kiefer's a piece of shit, and I'm just hoping Federer survives tonight and beats his ass in straights in the Semis.

    Kobe or LeBron

Other than Russell & Jordan what player has "4 or 5 rings" as the undisputed star on his team? That's reason enough not to think it'll happen.

Andorra, which is the real power between Spain & France.
  8. Does it mention if this is the match where he nearly crushed Kurt's face on that dangerous looking German? I don't know why people are assuming it was Henry's fault, because if that was the move it looked more like Angle didn't do it properly.

Even though this is a dramatic match, I'm beginning to grow weary of Kiefer/Grosjean. I don't care for either player and since there's no tiebreak here I'd like to see Mauresmo/Schnyder and Hingis/Clijsters some time in the next couple of hours.

    Kobe or LeBron

909 hit it on the head, I can't say it any better...when LeBron gets all those accolades, regardless or whether Kobe had Shaq or not, then we can talk. We're talking career, not better player, and I still think even that is highly highly debatable. The problem is that this isn't an argument over who had the better career. It's speculation on who will be the greatest when their respective careers are over. It'd be like comparing Julius Erving to Michael Jordan in 1984. One player accomplished more at that point, but the other player was ultimately better in his time. It's almost a toss-up. James was better at 20, but Bryant was arguably a better player at the age of 19. Ultimately, I think James will be a better player in the long run as long as he maintains a work ethic. But it's fair to say that both guys will likely end up in the all-time top 5 or 10 in scoring. At that point the only difference between them will be hardware and Kobe's already got 3 rings. LeBron won't be winning his first until Duncan retires or Detroit rips their team apart. If he doesn't win multiple titles what makes him any greater than say 'Nique? or Malone? If Kobe scores 30,000+ and has at least 3 titles how is he not better than everyone else who had 20,000+ but never won any titles?

    This week in the NBA

So much for the Artest/Peja deal since Ron decided he didn't want to play in Sacramento. What a bitch.

What does this mean for Smackdown?

The reason UPN wanted to drop SD was because it didn't do nearly as well in collecting ad revenue as more marginal shows like Girlfriends. It doesn't matter if SD can do an extra point or so in the ratings if it brings in a lot less money over the course of 2 hours than 4 airings of their (alleged) comedies would. I still think SD gets axed.

    Kobe or LeBron

Quoted for emphasis. There's also the matter of Kobe already having all of those years in the bank. There's no guarantee LeBron stays healthy and it would take him at least 5 years just to match what Kobe's already done. It might be nice if he could you know, make the playoffs at least once. I'm also curious why LeBron's complete lack of defensive prowess and clutch shot making ability never comes into play when discussing him.

    This week in the NBA

Neither team really had anything to lose in the deal since Peja will never again be the guy who was at one time an MVP candidate midway through a season. I don't think he will help Indiana all that much, but given that they probably gained sanity in trading Artest away, I'd say that both teams did alright.

    Australian Open.

Meh. We knew Kim was eventually going to get #1 last summer. But, #1 hardly matters anymore with injuries. It's more about who can stay the most healthy for a 12-month period now. It's hard to say someone like Mauresmo deserved the #1 ranking. And Loser Lindsay in the past year. Hell, Myskina was one match away from getting #1... That's true, it's just somewhat ironic that all of the hype around the WTA Tour Championships last year was whether Lindsay or Kim would be # 1, and unless they mentioned something during Davenport/Henin-Hardenne (which I haven't seen) I don't think they've even broached the idea that top ranking was also up for grabs here. Granted, a GS trophy is at stake, but we all knew Lindsay wasn't winning it, so her only attainable goal is to be # 1.

Recent no brainer feuds gone wrong in the WWE Orton/Taker both times Eddie/JBL Christian/Cena That's just off the top of my head. I'm certain they will fuck up RVD/Carlito by giving the ROLLUP OF DEATH~ a couple of victories.

    Kobe or LeBron

LeBron won't win 2 titles, let alone three. Kobe could still end up with 4 or 5. I think that's pretty much all that matters since LeBron will probably end up with the career scoring mark barring an injury, but Kobe will end up top 4 or 5 too.

    Australian Open.

I'm sure Leena's ecstatic to know that Kim Clijsters is the new World # 1. All 4 players I picked to win yesterday won, but today's going to have the more interesting matches, at least that's what I hope.

    Australian Open.

I shudder to think how badly this tournament would have gone if Pierce hadn't gagged in the 2nd round or Martina had choked. Until some of these Russians start playing less to lower their rankings OR they develop some semblance of mental toughness the vast majority of these tournament matches are going to be painful to watch. My guess is that Henin-Hardenne will dominate this year if she can stay healthy, and I realize that's a pretty big "if" given her recent history. If Martina plays a full slate of tournies she'll be top 20 in the world by the US Open.

    Australian Open.

Do all of the Russian players on the women's side have severe mental issues or what? Henin-Hardenne would've pasted either one of the bitches in under 45 minutes. If for some odd reason Davenport beats Justine, I think Martina's got this title locked up since everyone else will crack under the pressure/heat.

Or better yet, Shawn's fury finally explodes and during an "unintentional" moment... He throws himself at Vince. They could do a spot where someone is eliminated and is injured or something and Vince comes out to check on the injured wrestler in one of those oh so popular "worked shoots". Shawn, whom has been in for awhile only sees Vince stand ringside and without thinking, just flies over the ropes to attack him. Much better then Vince pulling Shawn out or something. It shows Vince has gotten into Shawn's mind. I think they'll do a skin the cat, one foot touches the floor, but the other didn't type deal, only this time Vince will say that both of HBK's feet hit and have him officially eliminated just because he can.
