You must have limited exposure. That match wasn't good. Not horrible just your cookie cutter HBK match. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nice to see I'm not the only one tired of the HBK paint-by-numbers-even-on-PPV match. People talk about Hart and Cena's five moves of doom, but Michaels pulls out the same match nearly every time he wrestles, give or take 5-10 minutes of complete no-selling.
-
That's WWE psychology. Much like HBK can have his back worked over for 30 straight minutes, then nip up, hit a super kick, get a pin, and walk off with only mild discomfort, but a Pedigree can put him down for what seems like an eternity.

The OAO RAW Thread for June 13th, 2005
naiwf replied to Prophet of Mike Zagurski's topic in The WWE Folder
I laughed, not so much at the comment but at the fact that Austin actually got away with saying it. The WWE is slowly converting their fans into racists due to this whole Hassan angle and I'm not really enjoying it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would say Vince is acknowledging that a decent portion of his fans already are/were racists. The JBL character basically acted like anyone of color could only be seen as a servant of his, and you could even go back as far as the DiBiase/Virgil pairing with the black man serving as a rich white man's butler. The fact is that I'm sure a good portion of the crowd last night wasn't the least bit offended by what Austin said. -
Because it's the EARLY estimate which will invariably go up after encores. Think of it as the PPV version of the overnight rating, which always gets adjusted, except this time it goes up instead of down.
-
Alright, then shouldn't this thread be titled "Early ONS purchase count in..." since the 800,000 figure represents actual buys, not the buyrate which reflects the number of buys compared to available homes? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, because buyrates are now calculated in total buys. It's the same reason that if you look at all-time movie ticket sales Titanic is # 1, but it would be dwarfed by Gone With The Wind if you adjusted the latter for inflation in ticket sales. That "10.2" WM 3 got would be tiny (as in sub 1.0) if you adjusted it to the modern PPV universe. HTQ's numbers are correct, and the easiest way of identifying which PPV sold the most. I found this somewhere Obviously WM XXI hadn't happened yet, but you can see that WM 3 doesn't even make the top 15 despite having a "10.2" buyrate.

Maybe we'll see Gertner as the next Smackdown General Manager now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would love to see him try to convince Teddy Long that he should be Long's version of Coach. The obvious reaction that JBL would have if Gertner was given that role would be worth it alone. -

The OAO RAW Thread for June 13th, 2005

It happened pretty regularly last year, and they still did another round of it. If whatever random chick wins the contract poses for Playboy and sells enough issues, there will no doubt be a 3rd one too, as much as that sucks for those of us old enough to get our porn fixes elsewhere. -

He said ECW LIVES both time. You must have heard him incorrectly the first time. -

There's a lot that can be said about this PPV, but I think you summed it up quite nicely. All I'll add, is that I've never once marked out that much during any 5 shows, nor enjoyed one more than that. -

In a word, yes. However, Hogan was more subtle in that he knew there was money to be made by building guys up for a program first. At the end of the day though, it was the same thing.
-
My sentiments exactly. Cena just got an Austinesque pop there, and made Christian out to be a huge prick all at the same time.

It's either a woman, a ref, or an announcer.

Probably because the world doesn't revolve around New York City. Reaching 70% of the country in a constant, great timeslot on a channel that isn't preempted on a channel people watch is better than reaching 90% in a changing terrible timeslot that's frequently preempted and on a channel people don't watch. That would be true if you know, they weren't going head to head with the competition for half of the show. TNA's total viewers in NYC will be roughly 0%, because unless you have a dish, you won't get the show. It would be one thing to give up some small city like Milwaukee, it's kind of foolish to give up NYC. Hasn't it been proven that anywhere from 0.3-0.5 of SD's usual 3.0-3.2ish is strictly from NY when it's been pre-empted for baseball or football? I don't know, but it seems kind of silly to give up at least 10% of my audience for any reason.
-
As someone who lives 4 miles away from MSG and can't watch TNA if they go to WGN I fail to see how this deal is great for them. I would assume that you'd actually want coverage in New York City on basic cable which FSN actually provided. If they don't end up on Spike TV in October, then they've basically shut themselves out of (one of) the biggest TV market(s) in the entire country.
-
I think that's pretty much a given. The only way it doesn't happen is for Edge to steal the title by beating Batista directly after the HIAC match, and for HHH to take it back the next night or in short order just so they can pay off the Edge angle. He'll be champ again before June is over, and will likely hold it until the Survivor Series or Royal Rumble.
-
Edge not capitalizing on his MITB title shot after Trips killed Batista just about wasted any potential he had to do anything worthwhile from here on out. He couldn't beat Batista with 2 guys running interference on his behalf, and there's not a chance in hell he'll be lined up to face HHH once reign 11 starts at Vengeance. They may as well just move him to SD and just bury him in the (upper) midcard there with all of the other talented guys who aren't going anywhere any time soon.

Yes, all well and good, but what Rudo is saying (not to put words in his mouth) is that, if they're going to blow it off at the next PPV, why bother intvesting in this one? My GOD, you really are stupid aren't you? You make the most nutty arguments in every single thread. Do you do it just to disagree with people or something? Seriously man, what's the deal? No, it's just that I really am that stupid. Although I don't see how that's so stupid, he said there's no point in getting a ppv if two men will also fight at the next ppv. So I asked would it just be better if the men didn't fight the first time at all then? Honest question. How the fuck is that stupid? I agree with RRR that the ending of Eddie/Rey was unsatisfying because Eddie's lost what 3 or 4 times in a row to Rey now? How is the undersized babyface underdog routinely winning, a good way to continue an angle? If Eddie ever beats Rey it's just going to extend the feud for Rey to get the win at the end. Eddie should have won now, beaten the shit out of Rey afterwards and set up the blowoff by doing so. I don't care how good the matches may be, but I don't want to see these guys face each other for FOUR straight PPVs.
-
I'd say no. You could have put virtually anybody with decent mic skills and size in his position and done more with him. His in ring skills just don't scream Main Event to me, and never will. Paying dues should be rewarded with a steady paycheck, not a monster push you never did anything concrete to deserve. Instead of building the character, and then pushing it, they went the other way and that's not a recipe for success no matter who is playing the character/what character it is.
-
Considering they're the tag team champions? That doesn't necessarily mean that they'll wrestle on the PPV. There's always the chance some sort of lingerie pillow fight will take precedence to counter the upcoming RAW Diva search II
-
It was said a while ago that Carlito/Show were going to have a match, and that seems likely now. I'm also pretty sure they'll add a Chavo/London match based on what happened at the end of last week's 6 man tag, and if they're smart they'll also give MNM something to do.
-
I'd bet he'd say that more people seem to like Batista's skill at it than Benjamin's, which basically isn't an answer at all. All wrestlers are bad actors. If they were good actors they'd probably find it easier to make a career out of acting. To a man, I'd bet any WWE guy who was offered the chance to swap careers with The Rock, who isn't a great actor by any means, would do so in a heartbeat. Greater pay, better public exposure and less risk of injury sounds like a good deal to me. The same goes to the porn argument made earlier. The world's greatest porn "actress" makes a fraction of the money that an average "legit" actress does. She's in porn because she's not good enough to be an actress almost by definition. Greater pay, better public exposure and less risk of catching a terminal disease sounds like a good deal to me. Batista by all accounts is a laid back guy, so him being laid back in character worked perfectly against HHH's maniacal rants, while someone who appears to be incredibly stiff like Orton, failed miserably. I'd put money on Batista being unable to pull off HHH's character because that's not in his make up, and he's not a good enough "actor" to convince me otherwise.
-
Where would she creatively, and literally, be able to fit into the company? I think she might be able to help the new divas with their acting/promo work. She was pretty good at what she did back in the day, and while I don't think she's in any shape to go in front of the TV cameras she could certainly help out behind them. If nothing else, it might get Vince some much needed good will after the whole Hardy situation and releasing guys while they were still rehabbing.

The RAW Thread for 05-02-05: Show Comments
naiwf replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in The WWE Folder
Orton won on December 14, so take 2 more days away, so it's 210. Benjamin is at 193 at the end of April, so he'll tie him on the 17th and would pass him on the 18th. Barring any title changes happening on a house show he's got two more RAWs to go to surpass my least favorite IC Champ ever. EDIT: I had to fix Orton's stats as the site I went to listed the wrong day that he lost. Sorry.
