If they don't get a superstar in 2010, then they will have gone almost 10 years with nothing to show for it but rising ticket prices. It's pretty much an all or nothing move at this point.
-
I only see them call it on the really tall receivers. If someone like Plax had done it, that would have been a penalty. Someone Steve Smith's size can get away with it almost every time.
-
That's pretty much what it was, but they can have someone hold it like if it was a kickoff on a windy day. No snap, rush or anything like that but it counts for three if it goes through the uprights. Rackers shanked it miserably and then it was like a regular kickoff. Just seems like a very odd play to run.

The Cardinals are attempting a free kick now. If they make it it'll be the first one since 1968. EDIT: It wasn't even close.

The Falcons are spanking the Panthers, 17-0 early in the 2nd.

I don't know how I double posted here. In order to save this post, the Giants had all kinds of time and space to throw the ball on the first drive. If that's the case for most of this game it's going to be a high scoring affair.

Ed Reed is a beast and Philly is dead, but now the Cowboys are starting to look like a playoff team again. I don't like that.

I've been talking about the national title race since it was fairly clear that OU and Florida were both going to jump Texas in the BCS standings, and assumed that's what you were talking about since I posted it before the rest of the discussion took place. My bad.
-
They're not in the hunt anymore. They CANNOT play for the nat'l title because of how badly they lost yesterday. That's why you can take them out of the argument. The winner of Alabama/Florida will be in the game and the loser is out of the discussion even if Alabama loses in OT by a single point. That leaves Texas and Oklahoma and the H2H should matter because they actually played each other. It's silly to say that all of the other games they played were more important than you know, the one where they played EACH OTHER and Texas won by 10 at a neutral site. In every other sport H2H is the main tiebreaker, but in college football it's the other games which is why the system is the drizzles.

I see Kevin Kolb is playing, was McNabb benched for shitty play or is he hurt?

Smart move by the Giants. They should still be able to win, but even if they don't it's better to have Jacobs be as close to 100% for the stretch run which includes three divisional games.

I hate Baltimore, but I hope they win today because that will all but eliminate Philly from the playoff mix.

A loss that took place on the final second on the road is not as bad of a loss as a 10 point defeat at a neutral site. It doesn't matter though since Texas is # 4 in the AP behind Alabama, Florida and OU, and that's exactly how I see the BCS numbers playing out later which means that Texas won't play for the championship unless OU loses again even though they beat them. It's just another reason the BCS solves nothing.

TT beat Texas on a last second play and got violated on national TV by OU. Texas beat OU by 10 and lost on a last second play to TT or they'd still be undefeated. OU destroyed TT at home, but lost by 10 against Texas. The way I see it, if you eliminate TT from the discussion at this point (which you should since they lost by 44), then I look at the head to head as being more significant than a team getting beat on a last second play. OU has the better schedule minus the Texas game, but they lost to Texas and shouldn't leapfrog them and Florida in the BCS because they beat the shit out of a team that probably falls all the way out of the top 10 tomorrow. I just don't like the idea that Alabama/Florida will all but lock up a slot in the title game and assuming they both win out Oklahoma will end up ahead of Texas despite losing to them.
-
So does Florida or Oklahoma end up at # 2 in the BCS standings tomorrow? I have the distinct feeling Texas is going to get dropped to # 4 behind both of them despite beating Oklahoma H2H. Just another reason to hate the BCS.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-k...p&type=lgns It's official, the Knicks have traded Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins for Cuttino Mobley & Tim Thomas. If only they had been getting rid of the deadweight over the last couple of years these next two wouldn't look just like the entire reign of Isiah. If this team doesn't end up with a legit superstar or two by 2010, they will have lost the city entirely.

According to WFAN, the Knicks have traded Jamal Crawford to Golden State for Al Harrington.

Pujols won the MVP by a "comfortable margin" over Howard and Braun.

The Giants embarassing the Ravens was a lot of fun. Philly not beating the Bengals is great, but now I'm left wondering if I should want Washington or Dallas to win tonight. If Dallas wins it extends the lead in the division (and over the 6th seed) to 3.5 games with tiebreakers included, but if Washington wins Dallas is on the verge of death, Atlanta falls to 7th and we'd still have a 3 game cushion to make the playoffs but it would be over more teams. But they'd be 2 games out of the playoff mix, a full game behind Atlanta, a half game behind Philly, and tied with New Orleans, and whichever two teams are not leading the division in the North out of the Bears, Packers and Vikings. A loss tonight is just about the kill shot unless they run the table.

I fondly remember the lunatic fringe of the local Yankees fanbase predicting 20 wins each and Cy Young contention from Joba and Hughes and another 10-15 from Kennedy last year before the season began, and them calling Hank a moron because he wanted Santana and was going to have to overpay for him, and/or that Santana was overrated. Now that they realize they can't expect that kind of production from the kids they've reverted to the "just buy every All-Star caliber player on the market" strategy and if you get saddled with a Pavano or Kevin Brown, just pay more for the next big name a year later. It'll be fun when they lose in the first round to the Angels yet again. Before anyone reminds me that my team sucks, I'm fully expecting the Mets to have the division lead with 17 to go, and find a new and exciting way to blow it yet AGAIN next year because Minaya was busy scouting 13 year olds in the Dominican instead of fixing the bullpen.

There was a good article up on CBS Sportsline earlier about the possibility of Kurt Warner winning his 3rd MVP this year and being a lock to get into the HoF as a result since only the Immortal Brett Favre has achieved that feat and we know he's getting in on the first ballot. I'm not as familiar with the NFL version of the Hall, but I would have to think he'd get consideration even without the third one. For a three year stretch he was putting up unprecedented numbers and probably would have won a second Super Bowl MVP had the Rams won the championship the year the Pats dynasty began. I don't know if there's anyone comparable to him in terms of his career starting at 28, then flaming out due to injuries and having a resurgence in his late 30's, but I would say that his prime is at the very least up there with any other borderline HoF QB regardless of what he does for the rest of this year and beyond.

http://www.sportsline.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6270335/11618874 That seems like a lot to give up for a guy who won't be nearly as good as he was in Colorado for one season or less.
