I'm glad Tiger finally woke up.

Whenever someone makes a move at Bowen he either flops or ducks behind a teammate or referee.

Your average little leaguer could have made that play, but not Carlos Delgado. I could understand not turning two, but there's no reason he couldn't have at least gotten the force at second. Sosa will probably throw a wild pitch here to ensure that the Phillies take the lead on sheer stupidity. I sure am glad the Mets improved their bullpen, got off to a hot start this year and proved that they could beat both the Phillies and Braves. It certainly makes me forget about the epic collapse last year seeing the way that they channeled that negative energy into a great beginning for the last season at Shea.

Why does Schoenweis have a job? He can't get lefties out, he can't get righties out, he can't throw strikes. I'm waiting for Howard to blast one off of the front of CitiField right about now. Fucking Delgado. How do you hit Utley in the back on a tailor made double play ball? The Mets may never beat the Phillies again.

If they can't get analysts who know something about sports on most of their shows, what makes you think that their hosts should be held to a higher standard? Also, if the Beatles were around in the internet age they would have sold less records simply because almost no one buys albums anymore. It amazes me how many horrible albums sold in the 8+ million range just a decade or so ago. Finally, Keith Hernandez just confused So Taguchi with Tadahito Iguchi which was pretty funny because neither Gary Cohen nor Ron Darling corrected him as he was explaining how Taguchi (read: Iguchi) came over from the White Sox to play 2B for the Phillies last year when Utley got hurt moments after someone said he was the left fielder. Whoops.

If you enjoy 4+ hour Yankees/Red Sox games you'll get at least 8 of those on national TV this season. The Diamondbacks and Rockies could end up winning 90+ games each and won't get that many national TV games combined and then MLB wonders why the ratings for the playoffs suck ass when Boston, Chicago, LA or NY isn't involved.

Especially when you consider that most Yankees fans don't exactly need to wait to watch their team play on ESPN or Fox anyway. They've got their own network and a diehard who doesn't live in the tri-state area probably has the Extra Innings package and access to all 162 games anyway. As a native NYer, it'd be nice to actually see Rockies/D'backs on a Saturday afternoon instead since those guys are never on except when they play the Mets, and when the Mets travel to Colorado or Arizona I'd have to stay up until at least midnight to watch the whole game.

Rose has made himself a lot of money in the last two weekends. I feel bad for Howland, 3 straight FF appearances and his job is probably in jeopardy.

I just got in and saw the last minute or so of the 1st half, has the game been close throughout? I wouldn't mind either UCLA or Memphis winning, but that second game features my two least favorite teams in college hoops. Tonight though I'm a Kansas fan because I can't stand Weepy Roy Williams or Hansbrough. The last thing I need to see is either of those two douchebags hoisting the trophy on Monday night.

The difference between ESPN and Fox Sports, which is now MSG + in my area, is that ESPN carries important games from collegiate football and basketball, MLB, the NBA and NFL. I'm not a Devils or Islanders fan so I have no reason to ever tune into anything on the other network. If ESPN didn't have so many deals with the major leagues I'm sure less people would watch them too.

Pedro told Randolph he felt it "pop". At the rate Pedro heals we might get him back in 6 months . . . and then he'll blow out his other hammy in his next outing. At least it wasn't Johan going down in his first start of the season.

So is that why Wie's game sucks these days? Brook should be a high draft pick with a nice career, and Robin will be a serviceable journeyman big. Not bad for one egg.

The Yankees/Jays could have been played as they were announcing the game was postponed. I was watching a local newscast that showed people filing out of the stadium at 2:30 and it wasn't even raining there anymore. There's a good chance tomorrow night's rescheduled game gets postponed as well since they're expecting heavy rain at night.

Kaz Matsui had a great debut too. I'm just sayin'.

Nice job Gone-yay.

The umps in the Mets/Marlins game are in midseason (read: terrible) form. Pitches right down the pipe are being called balls, then a pitch that's 6 inches low or outside is a strike, both of Reyes' hands were on the base and they call him out at 2nd on a steal attempt. None of these judgment calls have even been all that close.
-
Mets up 6-0 now as Wright clears the bases with a double. I'm still concerned that Delgado will have another horrid year, but the rest of the big names have been pitching in.
-
Nice win for the Royals there.

I don't know how it is in the Bronx right now, but it's barely misting in Manhattan about 3 miles from the stadium and it's been that way for at least an hour.
-
Toronto opening the season in the Bronx is pretty stupid too.

Dallas, Denver and Golden State are now all 45-28. All 3 teams have brutal schedules for the rest of this week though (Denver has 2 with Phoenix, Dallas has GS and the Lakers and the Warriors have San Antonio and Dallas) so if anyone goes 2-1 or better they might just lock up the 7th seed because it's possible that the other teams could lose 2 games or more in the standings by Sunday with 4 to play.

Jordan got a lot of calls in tight playoff games, but even as a Knicks fan/Bulls hater it was at least acceptable because he would have found a way to beat us 99% of the time even without the calls. My biggest gripe with him is that I hardly ever saw MJ get T'ed up even when he'd drop f-bombs, fingerpoint at the ref and end up with his spittle all over the ref's faces. I also still feel like his complaints about how rough the Knicks played in the '90s led us to this handcheck pansy shit we're stuck with in the NBA where needless fouls get called 20+ feet from the hoop routinely. The difference between MJ and guys like Wade is that Jordan would hit the jumper AND get the foul on his way to 40+ pts, while Wade would just flop to the ground and end up with the bulk of his points coming from the ~20 FTA in every close game.
-
It's also incredible how many fouls he gets called in his favor on both ends of the court when he's out of position. There was one sequence when it was close at the end where he tomahawked at Padgett from behind striking him between the shoulderblades leaving Enberg to say he got away with one, he fouled Padgett AGAIN and nothing was called and in almost every game of UNC's that I've watched that's par for the course. Of course if you look in his direction in the low blocks in a tight one it's like D-Wade vs Dallas in the NBA Finals and a guaranteed trip to the line. It's almost like he plays for UCLA with the way the refs protect him down the stretch. Now I'm not saying he's a scrub. I'd even say that he's an elite collegiate baller, but anyone who didn't know better would think we were seeing one of the all-time greats the way people talk about him. He's not even as good as Christian Laettner was at that level and will likely be a stiff in the NBA who lasts because big men are like left handed relievers. The fact that some ESPN talking heads have him being as good as Beasley at the next level because of his "guts" is just retarded. I think that's my biggest problem with the guy. He's a great effort player on a great team, but I don't see any skills that are so mindblowingly amazing that justify the way he is treated by everyone who calls the game. The Jordan comment came from Jay Bilas in full fellatio mode somewhere around the time Earl Clark was doing his 3 step drop/turnover routine late in the 2nd half.

"Tyler Hansbrough is a better competitor than Michael Jordan." That's quite close to being the dumbest thing I've ever heard on a national sports broadcast.
