Generally speaking when a team should/could have lost two games in a row and still remain unbeaten that means that they probably won't lose. The Steelers are their last real test and after two close calls I expect them to win by about 10 next week, then 3 TDs or more against the Jets, Dolphins and Giants.

I'm surprised the Pats didn't try an onside kick there. They would have only given up an extra 6 or 7 yards if they didn't get it.

You would like the Red Sox, your hated rivals, to get the best pitcher in baseball and secure an unbelievabale pitching rotation for the next five years or so? That makes a lot of sense. Santana/Beckett/Matsuzaka/Schilling/Buchholz Look at that for a minute and think about your statement again. CW isn't the only Yankees fan who thinks that way. I don't know WHY exactly they think adding Santana to the Red Sox is a good move, but it's a lot more common than one might imagine. I hope they get their wish and the Red Sox win another title or two in the next couple of years (since the Mets are moving backwards) while they get to think about what might have been.

Damn, Ohio State is back in the Nat'l Title game. This year could not have sucked more.

Mizzou just gave away a TD by not waiting on a booth review. Morons.
-
WTF? That is the weirdest final sequence I've seen in quite some time.

The Knicks are down by 25 with 4 1/2 left in the 1st half. This exceeds my expectations of them playing tough for a half and then getting blown out.

His hits allowed per nine has gone up but was still 3rd best in the AL instead of the # 1 the last 3 years. His WHIP went up but was still # 1. If you put him in Yankee Stadium his stats would likely get better and his W/L record would revert to the previous years since he'd be getting 5 or 6 runs per game to play with instead of 2 or 3. He only gave up more than 4 runs 3 times this year. That kind of performance with the Yankees' offense backing him up would get him another Cy Young. Basically, I think you're splitting hairs. If A-Rod's next three years are 51 HR, 145 RBI, 1.030 OPS, 47/135/1.010 and 43/125/.990 his numbers would be declining over that period, but would still be of MVP caliber. If you think Santana's shot then that's one thing but to think that Hughes is going to be his equal, or even better is just speculation at this point. If there were that many guys who could become Santana he wouldn't be capable of commanding so much for both the Twins as well as himself.

Last night, I lost whatever respect I had for Tony Paige on WFAN when he said something to the effect of "Hughes and Joba have a lot of potential. Santana's already reached his. How much better can Santana get? Even if the Yankees trade for Santana and win 2 championships in the next 5 years, what do you do when Santana's 34 or 35 at the end of the deal and on the downside of his career and Hughes and Chamberlain are as good as he was when you got him?" He's also against trading Cano because "if you put him at #5 in the lineup he could easily drive in 120 runs." First of all, there's no guarantee with young arms as Mets and Cubs fans will tell you. Secondly, any team outside of the Yankees would gut their farm system for two championships in 5 years. Lastly, Santana's not 34 or 35 now and the difference between where he is now and where the prospects are is immense. The notion that some fans had that two guys who win 12-15 games a year is better than having an ace who gets you 18-20 works in theory, but not in practice.

The best trade proposal I heard on WFAN last week went something like this, Caller: "Hey host, I'm tired of hearing Mets fans callin' up and tryin' to get Santana for garbage like Pelphrey, Humber and Milledge or Gomez. Even if they throw Reyes in the deal they don't have enough to make the Twins want to take that trade. The Yankees clearly have what it takes to get the deal done with guys like Hughes, Cano, Melky, and Joba. As a matter of fact if the Yankees offered Joba STRAIGHT UP for Santana, the Twins basically gotta take the deal!" Host: "Are you serious?" Caller: "Absolutely. We're talking about JOBA for Santana! If anything the Twins would be the ones who might need to throw something else in." Host: "So you want the Twins to trade a 2-time Cy Young winner and the best pitcher in baseball straight up for a guy with a handful of innings in the major leagues when they could get a king's ransom from the Mets, Dodgers or Red Sox instead?" Caller: "But are those teams gonna pay Santana what he wants?l" Host: "Uh, for Johan Santana I think they'd pay him whatever he wants since he's easily the best pitcher in baseball and he's in his prime." *The host referenced some of the retarded deals borderline pitchers have been getting and said Santana could easily get $ 25 million per from all of the teams mentioned without a doubt* Caller: "But still, he'd be playing for the Yankees and the Twins would get JOBA who would probably be the second best pitcher in baseball next year. If anything, the Twins would be getting a cheaper version of Santana." *The host finally saw where this was going and hung up.* The sad part is that there are some fans out there who are acting like this is Kazmir for the lesser Zambrano when mentioning the Yankees top pitching prospects. Hughes, Kennedy and Joba haven't proven anything as major league starters while Santana is at his worst, still in the top 5 in all of MLB as far as starters go. I mean, there's no guarantee that Joba will be a better starter than Mariano was. I'm not saying you clean out the farm system for anyone, but if you have a chance to get the best pitcher in the league for a couple of your top prospects I think it's a no brainer. Offering them throw ins, or your 7th and 8th best prospects in a deal is just insulting.

Do any of those guys have a legit shot at getting in? My guess is Gossage will finally get the votes, Rice won't, and that Raines will probably get in. I don't see any of those other first year guys coming close.
-
Moss getting hosed just cost the Pats seven points. Things could get interesting if Philly scores on this drive.
-
The Pats are well on their way to running it up with a defensive TD 1:22 into the game. As an Eagles hater pour it on guys. Pour it on.
-
I guess the Broncos didn't get the memo not to kick it directly to Hester in the middle of the field. I didn't think it was possible to have a lower team IQ than the Giants today, but the Broncos are trying their hardest..

Agent Zero has knee surgery and will be out for 3 months. That sucks.
-
Ridiculous. But I knew it was coming, so whatever. Pretty much sums up my feelings. Two years in a row a player on the Phillies has won an MVP they didn't deserve. Maybe Utley can get his turn next year.

http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10482309 Glavine's going back to the Braves. Good riddance.

It'll probably be in the # 2 to 5 range though. Miami's just about wrapped up the worst record in the league since they have a 2 game lead on everyone else. The Jets, Oakland, St. Louis and San Fran are all 2-8, but only the Niners have lost 8 straight. Unless they catch fire, the Pats will be picking in next year's top 5 if they want to.
-
Care to elaborate? I have NO CLUE about this one. They have San Fran's # 1.
-
Awesome. Torrealba wasn't worth that kind of money.

It's legit. A lot of the guys I played with used to practice stupid shots like that. The most impressive thing I ever saw was a guy swishing two consecutive shots from the opposite free throw line but throwing the ball like a football as opposed to shooting it like a half court fling. A couple of weeks ago I hit 3 in a row from halfcourt and rimmed the 4th one. It's just like shooting really long free throws as long as no one's guarding you or the clock's running out. If you get into a rhythm you can make a couple in a row or 3 or 4 out of 5, or you could just as easily miss 20 straight. The main problem people have when taking shots from that far out is that they change their shooting motion and overshoot it.

Doesn't that seem like an excessive amount of weight gain in a short period of time? I don't know if they should want Oden to be that big regardless of how toned he is.
-
I just think it's amazing that baseball's all-time hits and HR leaders will probably never make it into the Hall of Fame. That just doesn't seem like it should be the case.
-
I just think it's funny that so many Yankee fans who were ready to drive A-Rod to the nearest airport to get him out of town are now in love with him possibly returning after "disrespecting" the team by opting out. It's just such a bandwagon move.

Way to stick to your principles Yankees! I guess "under no circumstances" doesn't really mean what I thought.
