That was some stupid playcalling there by the Saints.

    2007 NFL Playoffs

There is no penalty for it. They just ignore the request. The entire line was set, Grossman was under center and then moved out of the formation got grabbed by a receiver (maybe TE?), then went back in and everyone reset I thought it was a false start. I guess it's not.

Someone tell the Saints that the ball is their friend. This is reaching disgusting levels already.

Colston you fucking douche. I don't want to hear anymore conspiracy for the Saints BS after that 2nd aborted TO call by Grossman which wasn't caught by any of the refs even though it was done in the middle of the field.

    Best writing in video games

This isn't so much writing from a plot/storyline related sense, but I think the Laharl character in Disgaea (and all of his other bonus appearances in NIS games) is as well executed a character as I've seen in anything lately.

    Australian Open Thread.

I just got home and found out that both Mauresmo & Kuznetsova went down like dogs in straights to lesser players. If Serena wins her match against Jankovic she's cruising to the Final. Peer, and then either the Dementieva/Vaidisova winner or Safarova on the bottom half is a weak draw at a Tier II or Tier III much less the Quarters/Semis at a Slam. In the words of Dick Vitale "it's cupcake city bay-bee!". I hope Jelena pulls it off, but I don't think she will. Sigh.

    Australian Open Thread.

I'm not enjoying this tourney with Roddick, 'Pova, Serena & Nadal still alive, and Ivanovic getting spanked by Bepa last night. I feel like I haven't seen half of the remaining players, and the ones I have been able to watch (those listed above, as well as Blake, Fed and Hingis) were never really at risk of losing. Basically ESPN's horrendous coverage and all of the people I root against still being in the mix has made for a boring first handful of days for me.

Kaeding's miss against the Jets was a 40 yarder. The fact is rightly or wrongly he's ended 2 of the last 3 (post)seasons for the Chargers with missed kicks. You've got to at least make the one against the Jets.

The same Nate Kaeding that missed a GW FG against the Jets in 2004-05 and the guy who just missed a GT FG last weekend? Just checking if that's the guy or not. Don't get me wrong I'll be rooting for the Pats because I'm a fan of Brady (being from U of M) and don't have much love for the Manning clan, but kickers are not as replacable as people think, otherwise guys like Automatica and Vanderjagt wouldn't ever get cut because they're so "accurate" relatively speaking. Vinatieri is 19 for 20 on GW kicks inside of a minute to go. No one else in the league is that good.

Manning wouldn't have needed to try to score 30 points per with the Pats 'D' behind him. Brady would have had to worry about the Colts giving up as many as he could get, even with the improved players at the skill positions. Then there's always the fact that Belichick would be able to scheme against Brady better than Dungy could against Manning because he's just much better than Dungy.

2002- Didn't make playoffs 2003 - killed 41-0 2004- easily defeated 24-14 2005- waxed 20-3 2006- lost closely 21-18 Oh yeah, give those Colts a decent kicker and they probably would have won the championship every year. Are you serious? They might have been able to beat the Steelers last year if Vanderjagt makes that FG and sends it to overtime, but they still would have had to win that game, the AFC Championship and Super Bowl. Vinateiri is a great kicker, and has come up big every time they've needed him. But they haven't won anything because of him. It's like a closer in baseball. He might be able to lose you a game, but he's not doing anything to win it for you. Where did I say the Colts would win every year? If you read my point, Vanderjagt would have ended up COSTING the Pats a few rings. He fucking sucks under pressure, and the Patriot Dynasty hinges on 3 40+ yarders, the Tuck Rule game and the 2 SB winners. Way to miss the point though. The whole argument here is that the Pats could have won with a different QB because they had a great clutch kicker, If Manning was a Pat they would still have won, if you put Brady on the Colts or Vanderjagt on the Pats there's no way they'd have 3 rings. Whichever way you want to envision that swap being made the end result would be the same.

    Top Chef...

Cliff would have lost anyway so it really didn't change anything by him getting bumped for putting Marcel in a full nelson. NoCal, they had to have DRAWMUH~ at the end. It was obvious no one else was going home once Cliff got DQed.

Oh really, and how did they manage to score during that dreadful game against the Ravens? 5 FGs. Peyton missed a wide open, gimme TD and he got bailed out repeatedly by the non liquored up kicker, while "Mr. Accuracy" got cut midseason by the Cowboys. All 3 of your titles came down to the defense and kicker. Nothing can take those away, but if you swap kickers or QBs with the Colts you'd have at most 1 championship, and the Colts would have at least 1 as well. When Vinatieri is as responsible as any guy on the team for winning the 4 biggest games in the dynasty that's saying something, but hey let's give all of the credit to Brady for getting the team in position to make 45-48 yarders..

The Tuck Rule game, and 2 SB winning kicks were made by Vinatieri. How many of those does Vanderjagt make? Maybe 1 of 3 on a good day. The Pats wouldn't have won those games, or even been able to get to some of those games with a different kicker. Completion % and TD/INT ratio are pretty useless when all of the games in question came down to a FG make or miss, and the Pats always made 'em while the Colts always missed. The Colts have won 2 playoff games with Manning playing like shit. The reason why they're still alive right now is that they've got Vinatieri this year.

Exactly, give Peyton Vinatieri for the last 5 years and saddle Brady with Vanderchoke, and the ring tally would be VERY different.

    NBA Roundtable Discussion

As of today I'd go Mavs, Suns, Lakers, Spurs, Rockets, everyone else in the West. In the playoffs though the Suns will get a walk to the WCF because Dallas will be the 1, LA/San Antonio will be the 4/5 pairing and Phoenix' 2nd round opponent will be the winner of Utah/Houston. Unless Yao and T-Mac are unstoppable Phoenix won't need more than 10 games to get to the WCF while Dallas/LA/SA will have basically murdered themselves to get there.

    American Idol

This is easily the worst start ever to an AI season. 4 hours of shit, 31 contestants through to Hollywood and we've seen about 9 of them audition. Today's cast of characters included an Arab girl with big boobs, her gay brother, the Latino Constantine and a WNBA player. You can't make this stuff up.

    NFL 2007 Draft Thread

For the Ted Ginn lovers just look at Dante Hall for another example. One year people were briefly considering him as an MVP candidate because of what he was doing on returns, but he was always a mediocre receiver and is not much of a return man anymore either. You can't rely on a potential speed demon (possibly wasting a 1st rounder on him) if he can't be on the field and contributing every down. As someone else said, the speed difference from college to the NFL level is huge, and a guy like Ginn is too soft to be a star at the next level.
