    Future HOFers on Your Team

tigers: miguel cabrera: has comparable numbers to hank aaron at this point in his career. struggled for the first few months last year, but finished strong. ended up putting up the best power numbers of his career, though. as everyone knows, the only thing that will probably slow him down is his weight. justin verlander: this is the year. he'll either be continue his downward slide or recover his cy young performance. curtis granderson: never know with him. as of right now, he's not a candidate. but he certainly has the tools (5) to continue his improvement. raiders: shane lechler: a great punter. but how many punters are in the hall? I don't know, i'm seriously asking. nnamdi asomugha: probably the best corner in the game right now. depends if he stays with the raiders or not. if he continues this play for another 3-5 years, he's in. darren mcfadden: disappointing first year. but he's young and you never know.

I don't agree with either of these statements. zeppelin are like the demigods of musical excess. that will always be their problem. long, meandering jams and spotty albums. when they make a great song, its amazing. but lots is bluesy, self-indulgent junk. c'mon man.

no, i haven't. i sorta blocked them out because of said distaste for dance music. but i did see it on a lot of reputable year-end lists. maybe ill check it out.

i think its crap like that which has turned me off from any kind of dance music. its all become so similarily soul less. a vapid hole of cocaine and leather jackets. i still love discovery, though. hell ya.

There is one first baseman in baseball making more than $18 million. The Phillies countered with $14 million, making the break-even salary $16 Mil. Justin Morneau has about the same service time and finished second in the AL MVP voting. I got burned last year, but I really can't see the Phillies losing this case. And all this for a first baseman who didn't finish in the top ten in OPS. minor note, substitute carlos guillen with miguel cabrera.

Titles or Talent: What's More Important?

outside of freakishly amazing players, franchise players, sure-fire hall of famers, etc.; not winning a championship greatly affects how you will be remembered. sure, sports are team games, but it is the performance of some of the greatest players of all-time who succeed in the championship finals that makes them great. the best of all-time. mariano rivera will be remembered as the best closer because of what he did in the world series and playoffs. tom brady always had great numbers in the regular season but it was his superbowl championships, and poise under pressure that made people call him the next Montana. Championships define players. its their legacy.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

you're all idiots. to make it clear: 1. donovan mcnabb's career has been better than eli mannings. 2. eli manning is a better choice NOW because he's younger and has proven he can win at a young age. (this comparison was brought up by another poster, not me, btw). 3. i never said the eagles should cut mcnabb. all i said was that the eagles need to start looking at options beyond mcnabb. maybe rebuilding instead of trying to win now with mcnabb. they won't be better NOW if they cut mcnabb, but in the longrun it may help the franchise.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

winning a superbowl and being the mvp of the game is a pretty good accomplishment. in fact, eli was really really really good throughout the entire playoffs that year. and for the last time, somebody previously in this thread said that mcnabb gives his team a better chance to win than eli manning. i didn't bring up eli. i just begged to differ.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

is that what we're resorting to? yes, eli played horribly, too. people play bad. i've said that they have had a comparable season. some good games, some bad. whats the argument? i don't necessarily care for either qb or their respective teams, i just believe that eli is a wiser investment right now because of his age and his superbowl accomplishment (and mvp on the superbowl, too). mcnabb isn't going to get any better. and it would be time to consider life without him. why is this hard for you?

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

this year? eli is at least 4 years younger and has a championship. right now, i'd take eli. and i think their stats were comparable this year. if we're talking mcnabb in his prime, as i had stated, he is the better qb. whats the matter with you?

    NHL - January 2009

can't help but love the bruins eastern dominance. never been a huge fan, but its always nice to see a franchise so rich in tradition dominate. not a fan of the sharks, either, but their dominance has made the western conference as interesting as it has been in years. the possibly western conference championships, if the two best teams play, (detroit/san jose) will be unbelievable. but no one can discount calgary or even chicago, even though they may be a year or two away.
  17. i don't think the cardinals stand a chance. the steelers do too many things right. and they've only laid an egg once or twice all year. outside of a total defensive meltdown, i just can't see the cards winning. as neat as it would be to see arizona finally win.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

jesus. ok, first, mcnabb used to be a great quarterback, but he was still a notch below the (peyton) mannings, bradys, and favres of the world. eli winning a championship before mcnabb. eli isn't a dilfer or rypien or whoever, he is a good quarterback. the other qbs mentioned won their championship in spite of themselves. eli won because of himself. he's not as good as mcnabb at his peak (he is now, though), but he showed the ability to get the job done in the clutch. i do believe that is what puts eli ahead in the eyes of many gm's. did i say mcnabb should be cut this year? no. i said the eagles should start thinking about it. he's only getting older. his cap number is getting bigger. and in the nfl, when building a franchise, sometimes you need to do some re-building. its not wise to just sit on your fading qb and cross your fingers he takes you to the promise land. and when he doesn't, you have 3-4 years of painful rebuilding because you didn't look into the future. did the packers actually believe that aaron rodgers was a better quarterback than brett favre right now? i doubt it. but they saw the need for change. to move forward. ultimately they made the right decision. and even if favre would have won a superbowl with the jets, the packers would still be happy that they decided to move on with rodgers. and lastly, i do a lot of the blame on mcnabb for sundays loss. he was brutal in the first half and left the team in an enormous hole. he struggled with his accuracy. his offensive performance set the sluggish tone for the eagles defense. thats not an excuse for the defense, but it certainly helped dictate the pace for them. i just saw mcnabb missing more targets than the wde receivers dropping/missing passes. i don't blame curtis for not catching the last throw because he was on his way to the ground. and kevin curtis, in the games that i have watched, has proven himself to be quite a remarkable receiver. i don't mind their wide receiver set. they don't need a superstar. maybe just another viable threat. and i'll concur about needing another back. westbrook cant withstand an entire year of being the main man in the running game. but as a rb/wr outlet, there's no one better.

yes i'm a total idiot. and eli has one more championship than mcnabb. i think the killer instinct to not choke puts him ahead. mcnabb is horribly inconsistant. always has been.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

them losing wasn't mcnabb's fault. but he did lay an egg in the first half which hurt them greatly. just tryin to say the wide receivers weren't to blame at all. curtis got tugged down on the "catchable" ball. mcnabb was awful during various stretches this year. including parts of the playoffs.
  22. Annabelle

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

the problems aren't with any of the eagles wide receivers, the loss was all mcnabb. he was missing his targets like crazy. there were at least two times that he missed easy 10 yard passes that woulda been big plays and possibly touchdowns. there just has to be a point when the eagles just let him go. he isn't what he used to be, and even then, he wasn't the best. and antwon, you can't expect your team to go out and sign the two biggest names on the free agent market. the eagles aren't the yankees, and this is the nfl.
