    NHL Thread

I don't know who said that, but they're blatantly wrong. you canadian twits. its because every major sport is in session. mlb playoffs. almost halfway through the nfl season. and there is a lot of enthusiasm for the beginning of the nhl and nba seasons. don't discount the beginning of playoffs for the cfl, too. cmon men.

the sens have sucked under 3 coaches in 2 years. i wonder what the problem might be? too bad they didn't save up their "throw ray emery from the bus" card for this year.

Oh man, Some Girls is one of their best. Top five, definitely. it might be in their top 5, but i don't care for it. its all over the place and its shitty disco vibe reeks.

    NHL - January 2009

absolutely right. outside of komisarek, no one plays a gritty game. i don't mind montreal as a franchise but this current time is almost as unlikeable as the early 21st century maple leaf teams. almost. they're embarrassing. kovalev slept walked through the game.

between the buttons and sticky fingers are the shit. other albums are hit or miss. i liked the eclectic work of brian jones the most. they were brutal after some girls, though. even that album wasnt all that good. beast of burden aside. and i despised shine a light. they were trying to recapture both the exuberance of the stones and the cinematic experience of the last waltz. they looked and sounded pathetic. just watered down boomer bullshit. might as well been an eagles concert.

The TSM Hall of Very Good

That...doesn't make sense. He changed hockey in the short amount of time he played. That's one of the reasons he's in the hall of fame. you need more than one reason to be in the hall. you need to be multi-faceted and not have only 4 years of dominance. his reckless style changed hockey but ruined his longevity. i just dont think he dominated for long enough.

The TSM Hall of Very Good

neely changed hockey but didn't play long enough to deserve.

Jarome Iginla is peaking right now in his 30's... Joe Sakic, Joe Mullen, Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Chelios have played some of their best years of hockey well in their 30's... iginla is peaking? well, maybe, i guess. Funny you edited your post after looking like an idiot as always. Iginla is playing his best hockey, even proving how much of a team captain and leader he is by turning into a set-up man for Camalleri and racking up on assists. well, iginla is having a good year but i don't think it'll get any better than the past couple of years. i didnt think it was worth arguing. but peaking is debatable. and osgood couldn't have won 5 cups with the oilers. different era. different level of hockey. again, his success has come during a downturn in scoring. hockey became more defensive based than offensive. but for some reason, i don't think you'll understand that concept.

Wrong. Mike Vernon at the height of his career in the early 80's was just as good as Fuhr if not better. Just because Fuhr got more exposure because he played along the likes Gretzky, Kuri, Messier, Tikkanen, Coffey, Kevin Lowe etc, does not him a better talent. Vernon was putting out similar numbers, with an overlooked talented Calgary Flames team. There were agruments of years Vernon could've won the Veznia Trophy in a few of those years. Too say Vernon was "nowhere close to as good as Grant Fuhr" proves your ignorance on the subject. Go back and brush up on your hockey history, partna... clearly you are thinking more with your heart (citizen of calgary) than your brain (actually had been born during time). fuhr was the best goalie in the leage in the late 80's. he back stopped the oilers to all of their stanley cups (except 1), won the vezina (vernon never did), and was canada's goalie in the canada cup (87). his career has had more prestige and for great reason. i debunk osgood because he played on a great defensive system team during the nhl's scoring famine years (outside of last year), i promote fuhr because he played great during nhl's scoring boom years. and his team was great because of the offence, not AS MUCH the defence. sure fuhr ended up hitting on hard times after leaving edmonton, but vernon never reached the level of fuhr, and the only reason why he's in the hall is because he won the conn smyth on said defensive powerhouse red wings team. Regardless of where I from, stats don't lie... Vernon was just as good as Fuhr if not better(Almost every year Vernon had a better GAA) Fuhr got more exposure because he was playing with an Edmonton Oilers team that was star studded and extremely popular. Vernon could've easily won a few Veznias in those years but was overlooked. There are many goalies who won Vezina's that Vernon is a better goalie. Just because he was overlooked, doesn't mean you should discredit his accomplishments. How many Conn Symth trophies does Fuhr have? Excatly my point. You talk about Osgood benefitting on a great team, no goalie in history benefited from a great team more so then Grant Fuhr. For the record, I think Grant Fuhr is HOF worthy as well. But if Fuhr is in, so should Mike Vernon. get off the stats. you weren't even born during this time. and i'm not going to repeat myself. re-read what i said above of why i rank fuhr so high. the guy won 5 stanley cups.

mike vernon was nowhere close to as good as grant fuhr. come on man. and chris osgood was medicore on the island and awful in st. louis. he was a back-up for several years. he's not even doing well this year. i think some people are going a little too overly-sentimental about recent championships. if it took glenn anderson THIS long to get into the hall, nearly any nhl player that has been mentioned in this thread will have a tough time outside of the lidstroms, neidermyers, and brodeurs.

osgood, gomez and especially drury dont stand a chance. not even close. osgood's stats are definately helped by playing on some of the best red wing teams ever. remember him with the islanders? the blues? exactly.

Ok thats your opinion. He isn't as good as Chase Utley but he still has had a better start to his career than Morgan, Kent and Biggio and comparable numbers to Sandberg. i guess. he just started out real strong and has kinda fizzled. last year was really rough for him.
