    The Best Album of 2005.

What are the other three, at the moment? I ask because I've got about five albums that always stay in my top ten, and three of them are on your list, so perhaps you might have something that I've never heard on your list that I could end up really liking. As it is, I've never heard Seamonsters, despite hearing a few trustworthy people on this board (you and... I think maybe Plagiarism? I don't remember) praise it to no end. I'll have to pick that up sometime in the near future. EDIT: It should be noted that I usually frown upon top ten lists not involving Purple Rain, but to each his own, I suppose.

    Turning around on albums.

Holy shit, really? It seems like you would LOVE them. Do you own any of their first five albums? Have you seen Stop Making Sense? Dylan in general is something that took me a long while to LOVE. I always "liked" him but was not taken aback by his albums at all. Now many of them rank as classics in my book (and of course in many other's books.) Thurston Moore's Psychic Hearts and Frank Black's first two albums are some records that I've owned since forever simply due to both men's associations with their respective bands, but all three have recently become favorites of mine. Dinosaur Jr. seemed like typical 80s indie to me for a long time, but when those first three albums were reissued recently I had a complete revelation. And finally... Kraftwerk. In 9th grade I thought they were AWESOME, but sort of in a novelty way. "Pocket Calculator! What a sweet song!" But now I consider them to be nearly as important to popular music as the Beatles. Probably their equals, actually.

    New Broken Social Scene

I can't really decide how the album compares to their previous releases yet... but I have been listening to all three of their albums (and the Vashti EP) non-stop for the last couple of days, simply to prep myself for seeing them live in a month, and I'm pretty efficiantly "pumped up" on that. They're pretty much all I've listened to all week. Aside from the Soft Boys. Wow, I cannot believe that I failed to buy any of their albums until a few days ago. My God. This is all completely Broken Social Scene related, by the way.

I just picked up the new BSS as well as the new Animal Collective. I prefer the Animal Collective ten-fold. EDIT: Not to say that the BSS is bad, necessarily.

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

How regularly does Aphex Twin play live/tour?

Is this really as bad as everyone has always said it is? I would expect it to be, but still sort of would like to get it cheap sometime, just out of interest alone. And does anyone here actually own Squeeze on vinyl? Because that would be sweet.

Yes, it really is amazing how a band so great could churn out one of the worst VU covers I've ever heard. Though that *is* quite a random tune to choose. But I guess you wouldn't want to cover something like "Heroin," as you'd just get your ass kicked by the original.

So does anyone like Hüsker Dü?

I'm into pretty much all that is SST-related, so I'm a big fan. Zen Arcade has been well-documented as the user's guide to all that can be done with the hardcore genre, but pretty much all of their other albums are awesome, too. Also, HD is one of those few bands out there with all of the original members still alive that hasn't reunited in some way (aside from a two-song acoustic set including two of the three members at a benefit concert a while back.) A full-scale reunion tour could be very, very, very successful -- beyond anyone's expectations -- in my opinion, but unfortunately that doesn't look like it's going to happen (at least not for a long while.) However, Bob Mould is coming through my town soon... not sure if that will be a good show or not, but if it's cheap then I'll check it out out of interest.

    The Best and Worst

Gasp! Get out. "Ticket to Ride", "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away", "Yesterday", and the title track greatly disagree with you. No way that's the worst. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know -- there is something about Help! that I've always just plain-out disliked. At least compared to the other Beatles releases. I agree that the songs that you listed are good, but those are really just the pick of the litter -- there are a lot of songs on the album that just aren't that great, and sometimes not even good in the first place. And Inc, what would you list as Husker's worst? I love all of their albums, but as for "least best" for me it always comes down to Land Speed Record, Candy Apple Grey, and Everything Falls Apart. I personally don't really mind the commercial sheen on the production of CAG, and it has a lot of really great gems on it... meanwhile, something about the non-stop abrasive cacaphony of LSR has always been compelling to me. Really EFA wasn't chosen as the WORST Husker record, but rather the least distinct one. There is no other album in their catalogue that I listen to less, but it isn't a bad record by any means.

Best and Worst Songs on Albums

You know, I never really "understood" why so many people thought that "Silver" was a bad song.

    The Best and Worst

Hrm, Beatles is a tough one... I don't include Yellow Submarine (which would come in dead last automatically) or Magical Mystery Tour (which I adore) since neither of them are actually albums. Best: Worst: As for the VU, I know that the first album is my favorite, but I gave up giving the other three albums an order a long time ago. I would say right now that Loaded is probably my least favorite simply because of one or two actually BAD songs (and yes I am a hardcore VU fan -- I legitimately stand by my belief that there are only three or four bad songs between their four albums)... but the middle two pretty much switch off daily. The first albums is my favorite probably because it was the first VU album I ever bought. Sometime in the 8th grade I was first getting into rock music, and the first three albums I actually went to a CD store and BOUGHT with my own money were Revolver, Led Zeppelin III, and The Velvet Underground & Nico. So I suppose there's a lot of sentimental attachment. Best: Worst: Best: Worst: Best: Worst:
