So, was the money Leena using to buy TSM coming from the stimulus package Obama signed?

I believe the Hogan-Bossman cage match is the one they show, right? I was at that show in Des Moines when it happened and when Hogan superplexed Bossman off the top of the cage it was truly a "Holy Shit" moment long before they chanted it.

Kayfabe Era- What be your thoughts on it?
BruiserKC replied to Promoter's topic in General Wrestling
I saw a bit of that in the 80s when there were fans like me who cheered like crazy for heels that we thought were cool. Wrestlers like the Freebirds, the Four Horsemen, the Road Warriors, and Bruiser Brody were supposed to be villains but were cheered every bit as much as they were booed. Not to mention wrestlers like Jerry Lawler that were face but did heel things and got over, remember Lawler was cheered like crazy in USWA shows in Memphis but he was booed out of the building in Dallas. It would set the stage for the NWO, Austin, the Rock, and even Goldberg later on. To me, kayfabe was an exciting time then for wrestling. Yes, I knew that it was staged, but these events had a major tinge of realism to them. You could tell these wrestlers hated each other when they locked up, and as long as you were entertained it didn't matter what happened at the end of the night. When I got the Internet, I wanted to learn everything about wrestling so I dove right in. Eventually, it got to the point where wrestling wasn't as fun for me as I knew everything that was going on behind the scenes. Today, I still read some of the news on the Net but don't follow it as close as I did before. To me, it makes wrestling that much more fun again. -
My first live wrestling show was a Mid-Atlantic show in 1980 in Richmond Virginia. Among some of the wrestlers I had the chance to see were Dewey Robertson (later known as the Missing Link), then Mid-Atlantic tag team champions Matt Borne and Buzz Sawyer, the Masked Superstar, and Greg Valentine. They had a double main event...Rick Steamboat defending the Mid-Atlantic title against Jerry Brisco and the Iron Sheik vs. Ivan Koloff in a Russian chain match.

Putting the TNA World title on Samoa Joe should have taken place at Bound For Glory 2007. Joe was hot at the time, and was on a full-fledged steamroll towards a date with Angle then. However, they killed the momentum by waiting until Lockdown five months later to do it. While Joe had a decent run, he was much hotter a few months prior and so much more could have been accomplished. Also, with all the talk of the Invasion in 2001, why the WWE at that time didn't put the title on Rob Van Dam at that time is a head-scratcher. RVD was WAY over at that time, even when the Invasion was getting booed out of the building he always got the big pops. If Vince could have put his ego aside, RVD could have been The Whole F'N Show at that time.

I'd take Seaver and Pedro off the list and replace them with Bob Gibson and Steve Carlton. Also I'd replace Wagner with Lee Smith.

And the DTV Delay Act passes...Obama will sign it next week and the digital transition is now pushed back (again) to June 12. However, it leaves open for stations to make the transition whenever. My local Fox affiliate has already gone on record saying on Feb. 18 they will make the transition anyway. So now we have a new deadline until they push it back again.

Mario Van Peebles adds some additional oomph to the list of actors already assembled, even in the limited role he has. It'll be interesting to see where Phil's affair will fit into all of this, plus Ellen's outing the feds to keep Patty close enough to her so that the feds can keep tabs. Brilliant swerve.

Once Great Cable Channels That Have Gone Downhill
BruiserKC replied to TMC1982's topic in Television & Film
Boomerang is still cool, although I wish they would go back to playing more Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes. I especially liked the Saturdays when they would go to a specific year and show cartoons in a block from that year. TBS and TNT have gone seriously downhill. Partly to me I get annoyed by them running the same damn movie three nights in a row and then sometimes airing the same one back to back in an evening. MuchMusic/Fuse blows as well...we've gone from the station of "Behind the Music That Sucks", "Uranium", and "Slave to the Metal" to the same watered-down MTV crap and movies. -
Sam Kinison...there was a great comedian. He left us too soon. Other comedians I enjoy...past and present. Christopher Titus Andrew "Dice" Clay Redd Foxx Ralphie May Richard Pryor Patrice O'Neal Richard Jeni

And the UWF now reappears in that timeslot the AWA left off. I wonder if they'll still do the AWA shows on Saturday and Sunday mornings, I enjoyed here a few weeks ago watching Stan Hansen vs. Curt Hennig when "The Lariat" had the World title. I would like them to bring back World Class/USWA and Global footage since ESPN carried those shows also.

Does Rourke Being at WM Cheapen "The Wrestler"?
BruiserKC replied to zappafrank's topic in The WWE Folder
They need to be careful how to book this. I'm convinced this is still going to happen, but they need to be careful. With Big Show-Mayweather, it worked to their advantage since ultimately Big Show came over with the Universe considering it looked like the only way Mayweather could win was have his handlers help and it became 6 on 1. Jericho is going to continue to push the issue right up until the night after the Oscars and then Rourke comes out as Randy the Ram to put a stop to it. -
No to anything that ends in another lame heel authority figure angle plz! It's heading that way regardless no matter how we spin this. Either Stephanie or Shane is in cahoots with Legacy, and Shane would make more sense considering Stephanie ran roughshod over him and pushed him out of the way to run the show on RAW. And it would set up Orton-Cena for WM at the same time. Orton in danger of running roughshod all over RAW means he needs the World title to help that along. Cena takes a stand against Legacy and you have your RAW ME for WM.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
BruiserKC replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
At this point I wish we could just throw everyone out of Congress and start over. This is a huge reason why a Democratic-controlled Congress the last 2 years had a 10% or so approval rating. Money for converter boxes and rubbers are not exactly what I call programs for a stimulus package. Those need to be separate from this bill. Those are earmarks and should be treated as such and thus introduced in a separate bill. Not to mention Obama's got the same ol', same ol', only now it's the Democrats who won't work with the Reps to compromise. Pelosi refused to meet with the Republican House members, and not only did not a single Republican vote for the package but 11 Dems crossed over to vote no also. The tax cuts worked to stimulate the economy somehow, things were fine until late 2007. The problem as I've stated here before is tax cuts have to be met with cuts in spending. With Bush (and it looks to be that way now) the spending levels stayed the same. Getting the money into our hands is what it's going to take to get things going, to give people the confidence to spend their dollars. At the same time, we need to start making sure these businesses getting our money is going to be spent wisely. Honestly, I'd rather just not give them any money and let them fail, but it's too late for that. -
If they were smart (I know that's asking a lot) here's how they should book Orton-Shane for NWO. Orton comes out next week pissed off. He says he held back but now wants Shane in the ring and will put his career on the line. Shane comes out, ready to accept but Stephanie and Linda beg him not to. Shane says he accepts and will sign a waiver that if something happens no one is responsible but the parties involved. No Way Out is booked as a no-DQ match. Orton destroys Shane and is prepared to punt him after pinning him via the RKO when Stephanie runs down to save her brother. She lays on top of him which leads to Orton punting her. She gets carried out on a stretcher. The following night, Shane comes out to confront Legacy and then the swerve takes place as he hugs all the members of Legacy and shows it was a ruse. Shane says he was tired of Steph pushing him around so now he runs RAW.

I'm interested in seeing how much its going to cost these TV stations to keep both of their analog and digital transmitters running. Last night my local CBS affiliate had a story about how it was going to set their station back hundreds of thousands to keep both running. In fact, this week they said they were supposed to lower their analog signal this week to get ready for the switchover. Plus, I read online at BusinessWeek that companies like AT&T and Verizon have already spent billions to buy space that will be opened up by the moving of TV stations and the delay will be that more expensive to them.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
BruiserKC replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
Didn't they already lay off 15,000 at the end of last year, and just adding another 5-7,000 now to that total? Pfizer lays off 8000, although the official line is that it was a result of Pfizer's being bought out, not the recession. Home Depot has laid off 7000 of their own also. As for money being included for rubbers in the stimulus plan, that gives the term "government pork" a whole new meaning. -
The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis

For the banks that truly need the help, give them the help. For those that screwed up with the money from the taxpayers or who were headed by greedy SOB's, let them go under and be bought out. If someone ever in Congress brings up a bill for the buying of the banks, I will be personally starting a campaign for their impeachment/expulsion, whatever. Meanwhile, Harley-Davidson lays off 1100 employees as their profits are down. Plus, the former CEO of Merrill Lynch gets run out at Bank of America and the board might be ready to clean house at the top. These days the market and business news is as exciting and interesting as sports. -
The tax cuts aren't why the economy collapsed. You had people that were flat out crooks screwing the system over. Plus, tax cuts don't work if you don't cut spending to go with it. We were still spending and borrowing at the same levels. And right now people are more likely to hoard their money so any tax cuts most likely are going to be sat on and not spent.

I definitely don't care about cars. I know enough about cars, but not enough to start talking about hemis and V8s and stuff. Other stuff I have no interest in... Art...just not my bag. I have no interest in the differences between Van Gogh and Picasso or whatever. Maury Povich/Springer...they suck. I've told my wife that if our daughters ever talk back to us in the capacity of these teens that want to fuck everyone and do drugs and be strippers...I'm putting them through the wall and knock them so far into the middle of next week they'll have three days all to themselves. Talking about strippers and strip clubs...I go to them, I enjoy titties as much as the next guy but I'm not going to spend an hour breaking down the difference between the current headliner and the one they had last month. A couple of friends do that and it just bugs me.

You have to mention Petey Williams and the Canadian Destroyer. I can't believe this post went this far and no mention of it.

Other clothesline finishes of the past and present... JBL's Clothesline From Hell The Koloffs using the Russian Sickle The Hart Foundation using the Hart Attack. One I thought was cool back then but would be a lame finisher now...when the Rock n'Roll Express used the double-dropkick. What made their move so deadly to finish off opponents yet for most the dropkick was a transitional move at best?

I think he has to put up 1-2 more great statistical seasons to be a "shoe in" Canton shrinee. He's gone to 3 SB in only 11 seasons and that's while playing sparingly and starting in the NFL at age 28. He's thrown for over 3,400 yards in 5 seasons and over 20 TD in 5 seasons. The big question with Warner will be: How dominant was he? When he's gotten a chance to play he's put up simply incredible numbers on par with the peaks of any other QB to ever play the game. In the 6 seasons where he's topped 300 attempts: 23,325 yards and 155 TD vs. 93 INT. Those numbers from a guy who's only started 16 games in a season 3 times! He's only topped 10 starts in a little over half of his career season wise. And there are still questions about whether Matt Leinart could start next season with Warner being 38 years old. Warner's Most Comparable Case: Roger Staubach who essentially played 8 seasons and didn't really start until he was 29 years old. Staubach was more consistent than Warner with the exception of the '72 season where he missed most of it with a separated shoulder. Although Staubach made up for it by his comeback in the playoffs against the 49ers when he threw 2 TD passes in the final 90 seconds. Warner had some seasons that weren't full ones to make way for guys like Bulger and Eli Manning.
