As a Cardinals fan I would love to say that the Astros are our bitch and that they'll be lucky to win one game. However, I was more concerned about facing them in the NLCS than Atlanta. Pitching becomes a great equalizer in post-season play. You have Clemens...arguably the best pitcher of this generation and one of the greatest of all-time. Pettite had a reputation in New York of being a big-game pitcher in the postseason and his appearance in game 1 of the NLDS plays that out. Oswalt will eventually become that. When Lidge comes out of the bully, you have that feel the way we did in the late 90s when Rivera came out for the Yanks, or Eckersley for the A's in the late 80s...time to fire up the bus this one's over. Even though they don't have Beltran this year and Bagwell is just a pinch-hitter, they still have some dangerous parts of their lineup. Biggio, Berkman, Ausmus...they match up very well against the Cardinals. Cardinals in 7...it won't be easy and will be a fight every step of the way.

JR has made it clear that he's been one of Austin's closest friends on camera...so naturally Vince will make him the target. As for Triple H...the reason for the turn on Flair is three-fold. First, Flair failed to help the Game retain the title at WM and later regain it in two PPV rematches. So to the Game, Flair failed in the role he was assigned. Second, Triple H's twisted logic says that Flair is ungrateful for reviving him from the scrap heap. He sees Flair breaking away much like Orton and Batista did. Third, the fact that Flair even dared to join a so-called alliance with HBK (now HHH's sworn enemy) is unforgivable in his eyes.

Fuck you. What if you spank the child for being bad, and they continue to be bad, and you hit them again, and again they continue to be bad, and no matter how many times you hit them, they continue to be bad, what do you do? You have to use a more intelligent approach to the situation. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Take your own advice and use a more intelligent approach to this discussion. Wait, you obviously have nothing else to say that trumps what I have already put out here as you can't do anything now but shoot four-letter words my way. So make sure you cash your reality check today and use it to buy a clue, mmmmkay?

Tomorrow here is the start of something near and dear to my heart...deer hunting with bow. To me, hunting is an awesome sport...the idea of being at one with nature and going against the animals in their own terrain has a rush that very little compares to. For future reference...any other hunters here? And are hunting posts copasectic in the sports forums? I know some of you are not necessarily thinking of hunting as a sport, lol.

It has nothing to do with the fans really. The fans are spoiled by success, yes...but you have as an example the Chicago Cubs owned by the Tribune. The fans love the Cubs, sell out Wrigley every year, TV notoriety nationwide, but the Tribune would rather make a profit than spend money on players. If it means the Cubs lose 10-15 more games a year, so be it. Carl Pohlad...the Twins owner...is worth double the money Steinbrenner is. He doesn't want to spend the money, he just won't do it. The Braves fortunately can have that matter overlooked per they have John Schuerholz as GM...one of the best damn baseball minds of this generation as well as Cox in the dugout. A salary cap would help in baseball...but they also need a salary floor which is the real solution that helps the NFL. There is a minimum the teams are required to spend on their players. That helps the Green Bays and the Indianapolises and smaller markets of the NFL compete. I'm tired of the whining of the small market owners. Many of them could find some way to spend money if they truly wanted to...they just don't want to they'd rather fatten their coffers with profits. Too bad we couldn't strip them of their teams and give them to companies/people that will make them competitive.

All I can say is DAMN! I changed it with the Stros down 6-1 and it pretty much over. Serves me right, lol.

Bears 10, Browns 6...late 3rd quarter. Bears just fumbled...Cedric Benson could have at least held onto the football!

I'm guilty of the occasional snicker or smirk or comment at children that are just completely out of control and running rampant. The problem anymore is that there are horrible parents out there that have no damn business reproducing yet there is no legislating for stupidity. Then the people who screwed up in the Department of Human Services or Child and Families put on a zero tolerance policy that leads to parents getting harrassed for doing nothing wrong. Meanwhile, another parent beats their child to near-death. It's all about priorities. We've been so Dr. Spocked to death anymore that you have some children crying out "abuse" on parents because they couldn't stay up late to watch TV or because their teacher actually made them stay after class for that whoopee cushion on the teacher's chair. If I did that and it was false, my parents would have unleashed all hell and heaven on me. All it takes is a little common sense, common sense that it seems we have forgotten as a society. Or has it always been like this and I didn't notice until now?

Bash's streak of sucking extends back to the late WCW versions... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The conspiracy theory that has run around in my head is that Vince wants to shit on everything WCW and continue to piss on it. He's done this ever since he bought the company in 2001. The Invasion is deliberately booked to make WCW look foolish. Holding down the WCW wrestlers that crossed over (only reason Jericho, Benoit, and Guerrero get title runs is rewarding them for coming to WWE before Vince bought the company). Sabotaging Goldberg's run from the get-go, writing off Ultimo Dragon before he even wrestles one match also. The Great American Bash was the 2nd biggest event on the NWA/WCW Calendar, right behind Starrcade in importance. But to the WWE fan, Vince makes sure they don't feel that way as all things WWE is good, all things WCW or otherwise bad. So they don't put out the best effort and the shows suck. I know someone will mention that One Night Stand's numbers went up...ECW was the inspiration for the Attitude Era which led to Vince winning the Monday Night War. Otherwise Lance Storm, Justin Credible, Simon Dean (Nova), Tommy Dreamer, Jerry Lynn, even Rob Van Dam are all pushed down to be nothing more than glorified jobbers. RVD has the ability and the crowd backing to be a main-eventer for Vince if Vince would take the shackles off him and let the world see what he did in ECW. Rest assured, if Vince decided to dust off Starrcade, he'd ruin it too.

Whatever. It's not like he's issuing nightly beatings. My old man had this stick that had a nail through it. When it was time for my spanking he would get that stick and when I was over his knee he'd lift the stick up with the nail turned toward me. When the stick was out of my line of sight he would flip the stick then strike. Thinking the nail went in me was 100x worse than the actual contact itself. Spanking works -- look how good I turned out... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The trick I learned was how our dad used to spank me and my brother. When you make the move to spank I cup my hand so that the sound it makes when hand hits rear is louder than the impact it makes. If anything else, I scare my son more that way. Besides, as children have short attention spans he wants a hug 30 seconds after the punishment. Couple minutes after that, we're reading or coloring and all is forgotten. My son is not scarred from his ordeal. As for our troll roaming this post that will remain nameless, there's just no educating the ignorance out of him.

I remember Rocko...otherwise sounds to me like that guy is taking a little poetic license to run wild with his imagination.

Japanese wrestling fans love the American monsters...the big guys that come to their shores to challenge their heroes. Dr. Death, Terry Gordy, Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody, Scott Norton...the list goes on and on. Brock might make an excellent fit over there, especially since the Japanese fans will take a shining to him right away as long as he performs.

I was banned today from ever making coffee at work, lol...I work for Wells Fargo as a call compliance supervisor. I was exhausted and had a hard time waking up so I make it a little stronger than usual. My team revolted on me as if I had asked them to jump off a cliff. One of them said they wanted to drink it, not chew it and if they wanted stuff to stick their ribs they'd eat some meatloaf. Apparently come Monday they will have a restraining order on my ass to not come within 100 feet of the filters.

I have a feeling Ortiz will be the guest referee for the ME between Nash and Jarrett at BFG. They have the X Division...I'd like to see TNA develop a TV title, with the old rules applying where the champ must defend the belt everytime he appears on television.

And yes, I know Orton is likely going to get the title at some point....but it's a total waste of time. To me, Orton is an ill fated experiment. He had his chance, they fucked it all up, time to move on. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Vince is going to give Orton a 2nd chance because he's his own experiment...Vince has designs on Orton being one of his franchise players in the future, whether we like it or not. And as a heel, Orton had serious rub it was the stupid face turn that made him out to be pathetic. He's still not recovered yet. As for Guerrero-Batista...here's how I'd book it. Start the match being clean between both...as Batista holds the upper-hand with his 70 pound weight advantage, Guerrero begins cheating here and there. Nothing major but slowly trying to get an unfair edge. At the end...Eddie tries to hit Batista with brass knuckles...Batista grabs them. Before this we have the gratuitous ref bump where the ref is out. The ref comes to just as Batista is holding the knucks and Guerrero pretends to be out. The ref calls for the bell and DQs the Animal. As Batista argues with the ref, Guerrero gets a chair and beats Batista senseless.

That last comment directed at FromBeyondTheGrave...this ain't a kid you can send home to their parents...you are the parent. Children have the right to be kids but they have to have limits and discipline.
-
I'm exaggerating on the blistered part...and damn skippy the child has to respect me and do what I tell him. It's for his own good...you don't just let your child go run willy-nilly and do whatever or he'd want ice cream every meal. Besides...you admitted you're not a father...so where does that give you the qualifications to judge how I perform as a dad? When you have a couple of kids that come from your loins than you can judge the type of father I am. It's like priests doing marriage counseling, doesn't make sense.

But if Spike has to give away ad time (that is what REALLY killed the XFL monetarily) --- they'll simply end their relationship with TNA as quickly as possible. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And money wise it makes sense as opposed to shelling out money for broadcasting rights. Example...NBC doesn't pay one penny for broadcasting rights for Arena Football or the NHL...they split ad revenue with the leagues. If they make money, great. If not, they're not out anything.
-
Depends on when they're being the prick. I understand if they're out with their family, eating a meal and having someone come up in between bites of porterhouse steak and shove a card in your face. At the show...I would expect you to at least make the effort to fake enthusiasm for signing for me. After all, that's what you're there for that's your function.

One correction here...Virgil and DiBiase beat the Rhodes' at that Royal Rumble '91 match as that was the blow-off of that feud. DiBiase pinned Dustin if I remember right, per Dustin was on his way out to the NWA/WCW.

That gets about half a dozen "Amens" from me. I risk continuing to feed the troll I'm sure but when common sense is clearly not being used the parent in me comes out, lol. First of all...being a friend to your child is all good and fine, but the most important thing that a child has to understand is YOU are the parent. That puts you in charge and they are supposed to do whatever you tell them to do. If they go against that authority, there are consequences for that. One of my aunts had 10 children...my uncle is a great guy but he had a firm hand on my cousins. They knew without any doubt that he was in charge and you did what he said. Depriving children of their toys, candy, TV, etc...can be effective punishments but in some cases the timing may be poor. Children tend to have very small attention spans, especially at the age mine are. If we don't get home from a restaurant for a few hours where the child just finished showering mashed potatoes on the waitress and we told him no TV when we got home...he's forgotten his transgression by then so he has a hard time making the distinction between what he did wrong and his punishment. If you have the chance to discipline him then and there...he is more able to decipher the cause and effect so he's less likely to commit his misbehavior again. When I was growing up, my parents used spanking as a final option...but if it reached that point I knew my ass was going to get blistered. I turned out just fine. I don't condone spanking for every small little thing. I don't punish my son for spilling his milk or forgetting where he put my reading glasses. Children are clumsy and tend to forget sometimes. But if my child does something that defies my authority and/or could put himself in danger, such as running into the street after being told not to...rest assured the hand of justice will come down. Parents have just about forgotten about common sense anymore and the idea is to be a parent first, a friend second. I will play Candyland or Hi-Ho Cherrios with him, read to him, watch the Caillou tape that we've seen 500 times before, even hold him and his teddy bear when they're both sick. But...as a parent I will make sure he knows I run the show as well as his mother.

Only reason I liked that commercial was fantasizing about pushing Brooke Burke on the swing.
-
Spanking a child should only be the last option...but it sometimes becomes necessary to do it. Call it oldschool but if I have to I will spank my child and not apologize for it. So much of this PC BS about trying to be the child's friend...I am their father first.
