Congress to Hold Steroid Hearings Next Session
BruiserKC replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
It's going to be just the usual hand-wringing, finger-pointing, and scolding process by Congress towards the wrestling barons. Although I'd get a kick out of Sen. McCain giving Vince the business...I'll definitely have to set the Tivo on C-Span for that. In the end, nothing will be done. They threaten to take action but never do in the end. -
I can do ketchup on a hamburger...but not on a hot dog. Best sauce for me for French fries...I mix Heinz 57 sauce, BBQ sauce, and a hint of Tobasco.

I've been homebrewing for about 12 years now...I enjoy it. One of my favorite creations was something I called Sleepytime Wine...not really a wine but a dark lager. It would be similar to some German dark beers with a little more alcohol content.

I can beat Level 10...came close to beating Level 11. But I think I know now where Christmas and Whenitsunday Islands in Australia are...might come in handy someday to know that.

Austin vs. Goldust...you could have taken this feud two ways. The comedic value of it with Goldust at his flaming best against the bad-ass. Or...have Austin look right through the facade and maybe re-introduce Dustin Rhodes to wrestling by talking about how pathetic he's acting and his old man should be ashamed of him, etc.

I think a great team for announcing would be Jeremy Borash and Shane Douglas in full fledged "Franchise" mode. Make Don West do backstage interviews. Tenay could make it a three-man booth but for the most part Tenay is just brutal in the lead play-by-play and would be better off having a smaller role.

This reminds me of the baseball strikes and the hockey lockout that got the season cancelled a couple of years ago and made me stop watching the NHL. Is it me or does it seem like people who make a ton of money trying to figure out how to divide it up? Maybe I'm all wet on this as I'm sure there aren't any writers out there making money in the atmosphere of A-Rod, but they're not poor by any means. It just makes me less likely to feel sorry for anyone.

*grabs a steel chair and violently pounds anything near me*. Damn it...24 was one of the reasons I actually watch something other than sports or news. If they mess with "Burn Notice" or "The Shield" there will be more violence.

History will really tell how Bush fares. For example...after reading David Halberstam's "The Fifties" people at that time considered Truman a horrible president. Yet today people consider him a good one. Lincoln wasn't the most popular either back during the Civil War, yet now history considers him one of our best presidents.

It's going to boil down to competition for WWE...plain and simple. Changing networks won't help (the NHL has all but vanished from the face of the sports world of TV since it went to Versus. Plus unless WWE takes a tank as far as advertising dollars, USA won't push for major changes. It's going to come to simply someone else putting up a product that can compete with the WWE. If TNA reaches the point where it becomes a serious threat, than you'll see the changes. Until then...same ol' shit, different day.

Here's a few I found that you folks haven't mentioned yet. Magnum T.A.-Tully Blanchard "I Quit" at Starrcade '85...watching Magnum try to drive that table leg right into Tully's eye would have made even the baddest man alive wince in pain just seeing this. Steamboat-Rude...Beach Blast '92...the last few minutes were an example of what wrestling should be. The fans are on the edge of their seat and when Steamboat gets the deciding pin right before time expires the place comes unglued. Rock-Mankind from Royal Rumble '99...the fans are begging Foley to somehow escape the handcuffs and storm back and when you hear the taped voice over the PA "I QUIT!" the place is about to violently erupt in protest. Really put Rock over as a heel. TLC at WM 17 with Dudleys/E&C/Hardys...the last few minutes are very intense as you bounce among which of the three is somehow going to pull out the win.

Most Important/Influential Matches of All Time
BruiserKC replied to Diamonddust's topic in General Wrestling
Goldberg vs. Nash @ Starrcade '98. As much as people talk about hating Goldberg, he was still very much over at this time to the WCW crowds. Nash's getting the win sets the stage for the Fingerpoke of Doom and really starts to tear apart the locker room of WCW. -
The last couple of weeks on ECW watching the Balls Mahoney-Mike Knox matches. They hardly mentioned that at the start of WWE's version of ECW Knox and Kelly Kelly were dating and he was refusing to let her strip for the fans. In fact, they pretty much flushed the storyline down the toilet right when CM Punk beat Knox.

I remember years ago...former AWA commentator Rod Trongaard had joined the WWF announcing crew...a match on Prime Time with the Rockers (aka former AWA World tag team champs the Midnight Rockers). He makes the comment, "I know absolutely nothing about the Rockers."
-
Plus he has to know that, regardless of what they do with him, he's going to be one of the most over performers on any show. At a point where the WWE is drastically low on star power, the name "Ric Flair" can still generate interest and thus provide him leverage in this situation. Considering the spelling change on the last name, can he even USE "Ric Flair" outside of WWE? I know he could keep Ric, but the change of spelling could constitute a stage name that WWE would not mind throwing some money at. My understanding is Flair owns the rights to his name on his own. So he can go anywhere in the world and be known as Ric Flair. I would not mind seeing Flair take one final run on top of Space Mountain and be World champion.

It was a bit of a hassle to upgrade on my computer from XP to Vista...but once I did it runs very smoothly. It even works for all but one of my son's games.

I've had DirecTV almost six years...I'll never go back to cable. Every few months they were jacking up our rates, plus for what I pay now I would only get half as many channels with cable. Customer service with DirecTV has been awesome, always got my questions answered or a concern addressed. As for the weather problems...when I know a snow storm is coming, I go out and spray my dish with cooking spray, like PAM. Snow slides right off and doesn't affect my signal.

Brady Quinn is so overrated it's not even funny. Only reason he gets this much run is he's a Golden Domer, a product of the most overrated program in college football. If the careers of Ron Powlus or Rick Mirer are any indication, Quinn looks like to be the biggest thing since Kelly Holcomb.

Damages is fucking awesome so far...Glenn Close rocked in her season with The Shield and she really does a great job here also. I tape RAW these days so I can watch the Closer and then Saving Grace. Also...at first I couldn't get into Lil' Bush but it's growing on me when I see them skewer the lil' Dems also. Plus of course you can't go wrong with the new season of Mind of Mencia.

Chain mergers / Corporate brand extensions
BruiserKC replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in Food Folder
I enjoy eating at Applebee's...but I hate IHOP with a passion. Makes me a little scared now that IHOP has bought Applebee's. -
I think Gore would have still had to deal with the oil-for-food issues with the United Nations, plus the nations like France and Germany refusing to help in the War on Terror per their interests in the ME, especially in Iraq.

What was your first Exposure to Wrestling
BruiserKC replied to edgehead69's topic in General Wrestling
My first wrestling exposure was watching Georgia Championship Wrestling at a friend's house in 1979 when I was 5. His older brother was watching and apparently it was the only thing that kept me and my friend quiet. I believe that one of the first wrestlers I saw on the show was then NWA World champ Harley Race. I then started to get into Mid-Atlantic also when my family got cable. A couple years later I got to see my first live show in Richmond, Virginia. The double main event was Rick Steamboat vs. Jerry Brisco and the Iron Sheik vs. Ivan Koloff in a Russian Chain match. -
Here's an older one. It has been long rumored that other wrestling promoters that were pissed off at Vince McMahon were preparing to pay Bruiser Brody to run-in at the first Wrestlemania before the main event and beat the hell out of Mister T in a shoot. Brody apparently denied them as the money wasn't right. If this was true and Brody had pulled it off...would this have effected the WWF and expansion at all?
