  1. Let's face it...Smackdown has had some solid action in recent months but seems to be lagging behind RAW as far as being in the public eye. It doesn't help that injuries decimated part of their roster. WIth Smackdown preparing to move to a new network effective in less than 3 weeks...it might be too short to do something like this but I think if done right could shake up Smackdown as well as give it what the brand extension was originally supposed to be...set up as competition for RAW. Theodore R. Long's appearance in a skybox at RAW could be the set-up for this. Then, on Smackdown he comes out near the end of the show and wants to talk to the fans and to Vince McMahon (who shows up via satellite feed). Long makes the comment that Vince made sports entertainment what it is today and so on and so on...but he has forgotten about what made wrestling great. He starts naming off guys like Steamboat, Race, Luger, Flair, Funk, etc. He goes on to comment how Vince deliberately ignored some of their accomplishments simply because they weren't always WWE. Vince talks about all he's done for the company and how he's a hands-on owner. Long then points out that that's been the case for RAW, but he's completely ignored Smackdown and the needs of that brand. Long points out that you've been so busy chasing DX and running people like Foley and Austin out of the WWE that you have done nothing for Smackdown and it was noticeable. Finally, Long refers to 2001, when Vince bought WCW and at the time made the speech he was going to put the company on the shelf. Long pointed out ECW may have brought attitude, but WCW's competition kept Vince's juices flowing or he might have gone out of business a long time ago. In fact, WCW was the company to nearly bring Vinnie Mac to go out of biz. Then, Long drops a bombshell...that years ago someone bought what was left of the WCW stock from Ric Flair and Vince's children. And now they were cashing in...starting September 22...Smackdown would become World Championship Wrestling and Smackdown becomes Friday Nitro. Then...they introduce the new owner and chairman of WCW...Stone Cold Steve Austin! Vince goes ballistic as Austin goes on about how he found a way to ultimately stick it to him. I think if booked right would be huge...it would wake up Smackdown and bring back the original feel of competition that was supposed to be there.

Joe and Sting arent exactly on the same page, so I cant see why Joe would make the save and cost him the NWA Title by accident. If "by accident" you mean its obvious but he plays it up to be a mistake, it still wouldnt work because your dumbing it down. Hell, Joe turned his back on Sting when he was his mystery partner Vs. JJJ and Steiner, so why save him now. Just. Does. Not. Make. Sense. I'm pretty sure that Joe won't play it up to be an "accident." I could very easily picture Joe come out and talk about how Sting is the past, he is the future and it was his duty to send him out the door into retirement, etc.

    Iconic video game music.

The Castlevania song at the 1st level of their game on SNES. Tecmo Bowl...the songs for both teams in the playoffs kicked ass. Bases Loaded Ken Griffey Jr. Major League Baseball during the game was also cool.

    Bound For GLory

I know everyone and their father's are begging for Jarrett to get his come-uppance at BFG. But...why do I get this feeling that with everyone talking about how Jarrett is finished...we heard it from Cornette on Impact for crying out loud...that they're going to pull a huge swerve and that at BFG Jarrett will beat Sting, retain his title and drive Sting into retirement. Yes, I know they'll have a lot of people pissed off but with Joe holding possession of the belt right now it seems that if Jarrett beats Sting at BFG, then that will drive more momentum Joe's way to be the one to end Jarrett's run.
  5. The Kool-Aid drinking WWE fans are spoon-feeding this all over the Net right now. And it will be interesting to see how Vince handles this down the road and how Angle is written about in the history of his company in the future. Notice how Sting gets zero run on anything when it comes to WWE history...Angle was a HUGE part of the company for the last few years. How does Vince spin this. Angle's signing reminds me of Hogan's signing with WCW in '94. Yes, both were past their primes when they jumped ship but Hogan's signing was a huge thing for Turner at the time and Angle's signing, if done and booked right, will put TNA on the map. Only Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho would have been the only other wrestlers that might have given this the buzz that Angle's signing has. As for the injuries...if Angle thinks he can wrestle and he wants to do this...I put no blame on Dixie Carter or TNA. It's his choice, his legacy. I have enjoyed TNA...this will definitely get things going...although they still need a 2-hour slot.
  6. COLUMBUS, Ohio - A car dealership's planned radio advertisement that declared "a jihad on the automotive market" has drawn sharp criticism for its content but will not be changed, the business said Saturday. Several stations rejected the Dennis Mitsubishi spot, which says sales representatives wearing "burqas" — head-to-toe traditional dress for Islamic women — will sell vehicles that can "comfortably seat 12 jihadists in the back." "Our prices are lower than the evildoers' every day. Just ask the pope!" the ad says. "Friday is fatwa Friday, with free rubber swords for the kiddies." A fatwa is a religious edict. Dealership president Keith Dennis said the ad does not disrespect any religion or culture. He said it was "fair game" to poke "a little fun at radical extremists." "It was our intention to craft something around some of the buzzwords of the day and give everyone a good chuckle and be a little bit of a tension reliever," he said. The Columbus chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations decried the ad as disrespectful. "Using that as a promotional pitch when so many are dying from the criminal activity of suicide bombers, that's not funny," chapter president Asma Mobin-Uddin said. "I don't think it's appropriate when it causes real pain. It exploits or promotes misunderstanding in terms already misunderstood or misused." The ad, written and produced by the company, will begin airing next week, although he was uncertain of which radio stations had accepted the spot, Dennis said. Props to Yahoo for this story. As I read this story I can't help but wonder if I can see this ending with someone in the name of tolerance for Islam putting a torch to the dealership?

The Things That Anger You Thread.

Bouncers, see at least 100 people per hour. You can't really expect him to remember everyone that he let in. I can see that argument if I leave the club and come back 2 hours later. But if he's just seen my piehole no more than a minute ago as I left to go to the car and come right back, that's a little ridiculous. Then again, I suppose judging from some bouncers in this town (I used to be a bouncer myself) I can see why.
  8. TNA is not ready to compete on Monday night with RAW. To do that would be company suicide. I could see three possibilities here... 1. Putting TNA on Tuesday nights to compete against ECW 2. Friday nights to compete against Smackdown 3. If they insisted on competing against RAW on Monday night, do a tie-in with UFC. Two hours of Impact with 2 hours of UFC could be very doable.

The Things That Anger You Thread.

I have a few things that drive me nuts. Children on an answering machine or answering the phone...I don't find either cute. Answering machines saying, "I'll return your call at my earliest convenience." I hope I didn't spoil your day by returning my call you arrogant prick! Going to a bar and/or dance club and getting ID'ed...I can live with that. But if I head out to the parking lot to get something from my car and getting re-ID'ed by the same bouncer that ID'ed me in the first place not more than a half-hour ago? I think I'm the same person that I was when I first walked in.

Has it really been 5 years allready? 9-11-2001

Phelps is so gung-ho about how America has fallen, etc...has he ever stopped to consider if the Islamo-fascists were to miraculously take over America that he'd be one of the first ones that would be beheaded?

Has it really been 5 years allready? 9-11-2001

The idea behind Fascism is for the state to have authority over the individual. The concept of Islamism is for the laws of Allah to be the supreme law of the state...and all are beholden to the state as a result. Therefore...the term Islamo-fascist makes perfect sense, whether anyone cares to believe it or not. The bottom line is that while they may only represent a small fraction of Islam and don't reflect Allah's teachings, this is a serious threat and it needs to be dealt with. These people don't want to reason with us, they don't want to negotiate with us...the only thing they want from us is either to bow before Allah or be killed as an infidel. All I hear is we need to understand why they want us dead...forget that! In school if I had to deal with a bully...I didn't want to know how to make the bully like me...I wanted the bully to leave me alone. If that meant hauling off and punching him, so be it. You can disagree with the way we're fighting this war...but at least they're doing what they feel is needed to take care of business. It sure beats the alternative.

Has it really been 5 years allready? 9-11-2001

9-11 had an effect on me directly even though I didn't know anyone that died in the WTC or the Pentagon. My grandmother died the following day in a Boston hospital...my brother and I were prepared to drive across the country for the funeral and our wives and mother begged us not to do it. It was harder for me...my wife at the time was 4 months pregnant with our son. I was robbed of the chance to say good-bye to a very important woman in my life. I know it probably has an impact on my political views on what goes on in the world since but oh well. We had a chance to make the world a better place after 9/11, and we dropped the ball. American leaders screw up strategies for Iraq, etc...the rest of the world turns a blind eye to the Islamo-fascist threat that is rising up all over the world...it's just a mess. It's almost as if we need another 9/11 event for us to wake up to what the hell is going on.

    Kane...

I started to lose a little interest in Kane after he lost his mask. I lost it completely after Shane McMahon pushed him into the fiery trashbin. Kane has run his course and he really has nothing fresh to offer right now unless they find some way to revive his character. And I really don't see that possible.

    Your ultimate pizza

My dream pizza...thick crust for sure. I would coat the bottom with a light touch of anchovy paste. Tomato sauce with a mixture of spices of salt, pepper, red pepper, oregano, Parmesan cheese, and basil. Then...my cheeses...mix of mozzarella, provolone, romano, Asiago, Monterey Jack, and gorgonzola cheeses. Toppings...Pepperoni, Italian sausage, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, and green peppers Two layers of cheese of course...and then after baked I coat the crust with a light touch of garlic butter. Wash down with a cold one and it's all good.

    UWF Midsouth

I have a tape of that match...in fact Idol did offer to refund everyone's money at the Mid-South Coliseum if he lost. Watts' booking of Mid-South at that time was very gritty but he was able to make wrestlers into great heels or faces. The One Man Gang was a reputable UWF World champ...he clearly played the part of a monster heel.

Spoilers for the next 3 weeks

Why does everyone assume that Joe losing to Jarrett would kill his run? If anything...it could make the fans rally around him that much more, depending on how the finish goes for No Surrender. Then Joe can really start his chase for the title...it seems these days the run to the title is more interesting than actually being the champ. It worked well before, why not now?

    UWF Midsouth

I was a big UWF/Mid-South fan back in the day. People talk about the rabid ECW fanbase...the UWF fans were pretty crazy in their own right. One of my fave stories from back then...when they would hold their supershows at the Superdome in New Orleans, General Skandor Akbar was the most hated man in the promotion. Before one show, the NO police showed up at his hotel room and informed him there were some threats on his life. THey gave Akbar one of their bulletproof vests and inform him he's not going on without wearing it as they can't guarantee his safety. Now THAT'S heel heat!

    Dumbest Songs of all time

Crash Test Dummies..."Mmm Mmm Mmm"...when I hear that song I want to take the gun away someone wanted to use on the "London Bridge" producers and put it in my mouth and pull the trigger. And I'm amazed we've come so far without a mention of Jessica Simpson's "A Public Affair". You know we're going to have to hear that song over and over and over ad nauseam. My neighbor's 17-year-old daughter has that song on repeat already.
  22. Not that you care...it would have been Naomi. My story...couple of months ago I'm with some friends at a bar for my friend Victoria's birthday...apparently they have some celebrity shuffled through and he has a bodyguard and a few other hangers-on with him. I have just gotten my beer poured and get distracted for a second talking to the owner's husband (I went to high school with the owner). I turn around and the bodyguard and another guy are blocking the path to my beer. I ask to get through...no one moves. The owner's husband tries to get him to move...I say to the guy..."Yo, no-neck! I just want my beer and I'm off to my own little corner!" He and the guy he's with give me a dirty look but move aside, I grab my beer and move on. Bar owner's husband tells me the guy I just referred to as No-Neck was Cubs first baseman Derek Lee (in Des Moines on a rehab assignment). I tell him I'm a Cardinals fan and don't give a shit.

    Middle East Tensions Exploding

Perhaps Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11...but he was housing some bad peeps...Abu Nidal for example. Saddam was a monster and had to go. But he's just one part of the problem. We're not fighting this thing all out...we're afraid of what the world thinks. In Israel's case, they waited on full-fledged military action and movement into Lebanon because they waited for the world to work on the diplomacy part...a ploy that bought Hezbollah more time. Hezbollah puts their installations and weaponry in the midst of civilian populations, all the while they deliberately target Israeli civilian targets with no military target value whatsoever. Meanwhile Hezbollah comes out shining like a rose and Kofi Annan's only real contribution is a Mel Gibson moment accusing Israel of deliberately targetting UN workers. It's human nature...they are fighting for a cause that they think is worth fighting for and is attainable. If we put the smackdown to them and kill enough of the terrorists that want us dead, somewhere along the line they might actually start thinking picking a fight with us was not a good idea. It worked in Germany and Japan and it can work here. The Vestal Virgin Travel Agency is open for business! We're taking reservations now for the afterlife, suicidal bombers. Operators are standing by...have your credit card ready. Plenty of seats available...first come first serve. No pushing, no shoving please...all of ya will get to see Allah and all his glory. This is the approach that needs to be taken...and the world needs to be put on notice that is the way we're going. And then do it...a rocket comes out of the neighborhoods around the Baghdad airport...level the area. If Al-Sadr or some other cleric decides to hole himself up in a mosque and use it as a place to fight Americans...blow the mosque to bits. If, as an extreme example...we have American lives lost to a chemical or biological attack...the nation who harbors the monsters doing it gets one of their cities bombed to the ground. If they use a dirty nuke...couple of their cities are wiped off the face of the planet. And if the world cries out...tell them they had a choice and we're going to deal with our survival first and foremost.

    Middle East Tensions Exploding

So your response to a terror attack would be to do nothing because fighting the terrorists is what they want? If Al Quaeda actually set up shop here in the US, I would hope many Americans would feel compelled to take matters into their own hands, assuming the government did nothing. I know I would consider it. Many of the leftists think we should do more to understand why the terrorists are mad, try to negotiate with them, join in a singalong to "Imagine", etc. It's the same attitude that the Western world took to Adolf Hitler in the 1930s. Look how well that turned out. I guess if 6 million or so Jews die, it's not that big a deal. I mean, how much have Israeli deaths been reported in this conflict? No one seems to give a crap about 3 kidnapped Israeli soldiers, but if a couple sons of a terrorist leader get killed, we have to condemn Israel over it. Can't we recognize that America has enemies that need to be dealt with, and not coddled? It is your plan for dealing with them that is the problem. You are not going to be able to kill ALL of them. Sure, I suppose if we could the threat would be less. However, what point is there if I (as I said before) their will was set and heels dug in. They don't care if they die for their god. So they will keep attacking and then play weak when we show up with big guns which makes Americans and Israel look like assholes. Revenge makes for bad politics for a reason. So lets stop playing their way and try something new. Perferably an idea where nobody has to fucking die. Hitler did this in the '30s. He screamed about how bad off Germany was and used the media to make him seem like all he wanted was peace and a better Germany. The people we're dealing with aren't stupid...they use the media to portray America and Israel as evil and then they can justify whatever they do. As for me...I think if we had taken the gloves off a long time ago and stuck it to these monsters who are out to destroy us, the troops would have probably been home by now. In World War II, we had to finally realize that the only way to take out Germany and Japan was to just obliterate them. Before we do that...it's time to identify our enemy...Wahabism and a radical form of Islam that is hell-bent on taking over the world and forcing us all to kneel before Allah or have our domes lopped off. We need to tell the world this is the danger we are facing...plus we need to make the distinction we understand they don't represent all Muslims. However, it's high time they choose...you are truly with us or the terrorists. And then...off with the gloves and take care of business. I don't like war...I hate war and would rather not fight unless I have to. However...back in school when I had to deal with a bully who was picking on me...I could have cared less about understanding what the bully's problem was. I wanted him to stop...if that meant hauling off and knocking him out...so be it. Call it heartless, call it cruel...but I'm OK with a little bit of fear in them. I just want it to the point they think twice before perpetrating another 9/11.
