I used to watch this kid who had a big bagful of those GI Joe, Marvel and Star Wars figures and he and I used to run little wrestling feds with them. I even typed up ratings for him ala PWI. It was pretty funny looking back on it now. Boba Fett was this huuuge Ric Flair-ish heel with a stable protecting him and he came out to a ripoff of Rick Rude's theme. The one that started with "Oh Ricky, you're so ravishing". One day, he busts out with "Oh, Boba!" and I laughed till I cried at the absurdity of it. Commando Man,Mandarin,Randy Flash,Scott Spitfire (They were a R n R Express ripoff) ,The Oriental Crippler,Dr.Doom,The Behemoth,Boba Fett,Twin Blobs,Shadow,Crystar,Diamond Head,Psycho,Butcher,Captain America,Iron Man,Snake Eyes,Demolition Man,Sgt Slaughter,Red Warrior....most of the major names. We even did a fireball angle with Randy Flash getting burned. Stuck his head in the flame of a Bic lighter to accomplish this but it was good drama. And Shadow had to vacate a title because the kid lost him in a lake.

Whatever opinion anyone has of New Jack and his "wrestling", this is a total bullshit charge. The promoter is either a damn bold faced liar covering his own ass (probably) or a novice idiot promoter who booked New Jack without knowing what he does.

GCW's return to action kicked off with Jynx vs. Jackal! These two know each other quite well, as they were able to counter each other's signature moves on a few occasions. Jynx attempted a La Majistral cradle and Jackal kicked out, but Jynx quickly maneuvered Jackal straight into his crossface submission hold for the tapout victory! In tag team action, D.N.S. took on Cabal & Rat Boy...while Jimmy Charisma and Melvin Talent were able to isolate Rat Boy for an extended period of time, Cabal finally tagged in and overpowered the opposition! D.N.S. tried to double-team the big man, but he countered a double whip attempt straight into a double chokeslam, pinning both! GCW's female trainees took to the ring with an official GCW contract at stake, as Trainee #11 and Trainee #14 squared off! In the end, Trainee #14 resorted to bending the rules a bit, rolling up #11 with feet on the ropes for leverage to get the victory! At this point, Sean Vincent and Richard Head entered the ring to "congratulate" Trainee #14...and then the truth was revealed. After Vincent's humiliating loss to Trainee #14 in Cape Girardeau back in May(a loss which resulted in haircuts for both himself and Richard Head), he went to the state athletic commission and got GCW busted for doing intergender matches! An angry Commissioner Keith Smith hit the ring, threatening to fire both men for what they had done to the promotion! Time will tell if this matter will escalate any further! Richard Head stuck around to referee the next match between Trainee #15(Hunter Johnston) and Super Castaldi VII. The trainee had a good showing against the surprisingly competitive Castaldi and appeared to have the match wrapped up after a sitout face-first suplex...however, Head's shoulder appeared to cramp up when making the count! #15 protested, and the distraction allowed Castaldi to roll him up...and Head made a fast three-count! This did little to improve Commissioner Keith Smith's mood, as he ordered a match between Trainee #15 and Richard Head for next month's show in Overland on November 12th! In a match to determine the #1 contender to the Heavyweight Title, Kory Twist took on Kevin X, who was accompanied not only by D'Mon G, but his brother Steve Sharp as well! Kevin X was relentless in focusing his attack on Twist's arm...however, Twist refused to give in, surviving the Pavement(formerly the Makeover) and barely reaching the ropes when trapped in Kevin X's armlock camel clutch submission hold! D'Mon G distracted the referee and Steve Sharp climbed up on the ring apron with a chair, but Twist reversed an Irish whip and Steve hit his brother with the chair by mistake! One Fate Factor later and Twist picked up the victory! After the match, D'Mon and Steve Sharp argued and it appeared as though Kevin X was going to play peacemaker and stick up for his brother...but then he superkicked his brother out of nowhere, leading to a beatdown by Thug Inc. on Steve Sharp! The GCW Light Heavyweight Title situation was finally to be decided, as a four-way dance was held between four former champions: Makaze, Dingo(w/ Sindy), OuTtKaSt, and "Slim Sexy" Sean Vincent(w/ Richard Head). The match was chaotic from the start, with two men brawling outside the ring and two men exchanging maneuvers inside the ring at the same time. Makaze was the first competitor to be eliminated, falling victim to OuTtKaSt's Lost Cause! OuTtKaSt appeared to be on a roll, dropping Vincent with the Case Study, but made the mistake of going for a top-rope move instead of trying for the pin, and Vincent rolled out of the way of the corkscrew moonsault! Dingo capitalized, dropping KaSt with the Dingo Driver to eliminate him! It was down to Dingo and Vincent, and the two went down to the wire as they each scored close near-falls on each other! Vincent tried to set up for his Sexy Elbow, but Dingo hit the ropes to knock Vincent off-balance on the top rope. Dingo then tried to set up a Dingo Driver off the top, a move he'd beaten Vincent with in the past, but Vincent fought out of the move and delivered a sunset flip/powerbomb off the turnbuckles, scoring the shocking pinfall victory and becoming a three-time GCW Light Heavyweight Champion! Before the main event, Steve Sharp hit the ring in a rage, demanding that his brother Kevin X face him right away! The fight was on, as the two brothers went toe to toe in the middle of the ring! However, the ring wasn't big enough to contain the fight, as Steve Sharp backdropped his brother over the top rope and onto D'Mon G. Then the big man went airborne with a plancha onto both members of Thug Inc.! Kevin X and D'Mon G stomped him down on the outside as things got totally out of control, and Big Bad Ben ran in to even the odds as the match was declared a no-contest! Commissioner Keith Smith was quick to act, announcing that Big Bad Ben and Steve Sharp would face Thug Inc. next month in Overland! In the main event, Chaz Wesson defended the GCW Heavyweight Title against Kory Twist! The saga continued between these two, as their previous three matches resulted in the belt changing hands all three times! The story was different this time around, as Twist was still favoring his arm from his earlier match with Kevin X. Chaz focused his attack on the already-injured arm, and while Twist fought hard to overcome the disadvantage, it was not to be. Wesson used a variety of armholds to wear down Twist, finally cinching in a Fujiwara armbar in the middle of the ring! Chaz kept pulling back on the arm and increasing the pressure until Twist had no choice but to tap out! Chaz Wesson once again reigns supreme atop Gateway Championship Wrestling!

Jewel "You Were Meant For Me" But not the redone sterilized radio version. The first version that I heard that sounded more raw and passionate. And what's the name of that song that , I believe, Pearl Jam covered about the guy's girl dying in a car crash. When I was younger, the original version made me think "man, that's a depressing song"

Even if you discount the TNA storyline..Petey could have simply taken out his frustration over losing the title to Cannon earlier in the night on AJ...the man who pinned Cannon just an hour or two later. Styles did what Petey couldn't......pin Arik Cannon.

I pretty much agree with you except on the Cannon vs Strong and Shelley vs Castagnoli. I didn't see one match all week that made me think Castagnoli was any big deal and that match certainly wasn't the second best match of the night. H did sell the leg pretty well though.I'll give him that. Maybe it's because the first half of he show seemed so lackluster but Cannon vs Strong was the match that actually got the crowd going. I think it was better than 2 1/2.

Two words: Repo Man

Dusty is a one time thing. Or at least I think so anyway. But I figure they booked him for two reasons. 1. No matter what anyone thinks of Dusty Rhodes as a wrestler or booker or his personalty , his name is legendary in the business among the marks and they are hoping his name will sell tickets. I admit I probably would have bought a ticket for the 8th Anniversary show anyway, but when Ian announced he was going to team with Dusty, I went right out and reserved a ticket. 2. At the KOTDM Q & A, someone asked a question to the panel about who they'd want to wrestle and Ian described how he didn't really have that but if he could team with one person, it'd be Rhodes. Ian watched Dusty growing up in Florida and was a huge fan of the guy. I guess Ian saw an opportunity to make that happen so he did. Workrate whatever blah blah blah. I think the match is going to be a fun brawl. Ian will be psyched for the match teaming with Dusty....Dusty can work a good brawl....Candido should be looking to prove himself on the biggest stage he's been on in a long time....and Stone is pretty good. I'm looking forward to it.

I thought Ian said at the Q & A that Super Dragon was a dick backstage and wouldn't be back anytime soon? Personally, I didn't see what all the hype about the guy was about.

What a fantastic weekend wrestling event. So, so many great matches over the course of two nights. The first match of night two was basically a tryout match. Billy and CJ were recommended to Ian by Matt and Delirious. CJ is decent, Billy is pretty good although he didn't get to show a lot in the match. Joe vs Strong, Aries vs Punk, Sydal vs Styles v3.0, Cannon winning the title...just a small portion of the greatness that was these two nights. This is the must-get tape of 2004. But a couple of the negatives: Didn't match the hype: Double C and Super Dragon. Saw absolutely nothing out of either one that would make me want to see them again. The fan incident. Nothing I saw personally or have read since then demonstrates to me that Fannin or Whitmer had any right to physically go after a fan when all he was doing was talking shit to them. If you're a heel, I would think you'd want fans reacting to you by yelling. Fans shouldn't have to worry about being physically attacked for giving heels the reaction they are supposed to be drawing anyway. And Fannin did this both nights, although the incident on night one I didn't see as clearly because it was on the opposite side of the ring. As far as Ian lecturing the fan..... I felt it was misdirected.

It was a good show mainly for Styles/Sydal, Dragon/ Hero, and Cannon/ Strong. The show pre-intermission , I thought , was kinda lackluster. Even Petey vs Punk, while decent, wasn't as good as I expected. And for all the hype I had seen for the Double C guy, I saw nothing at all out of the guy to get interested in.

I'm beginning to think TNA's only reason for existing is a futile attempt to get Jeff Jarrett over. And the way the structure is...no they will ever wake up to the fact that that won't happen. I agree with Coffey. If they haven't figured it out in 2 years, they aren't ever gonna get it.

For the ...oh, one of you that might be interested.....the new GCW site is finally up www.gatewaywrestling.com and the return show is October 1st in Overland Missouri. They've been inactive since mid-May. for problems with the Missouri State Athletic Commission. Unfortunately I probably won't be able to be there because of work. But I'll see what I can do.

The Dynamic Dudes got no love back then. I laughed when Jim Cornette turned against the Dudes to a massive pop from the crowd.

I bitched the hell out of someone calling and waking me up at 2:15 am one morning. And I never did find out who it was and it was never mentioned by anyone. So either I bitched out a wrong number or they decided it was better off dropped.

That Gretzky , if it's the one I'm thinking of, books at $80 now. It's in the Beckett Hockey Card Plus magazine.

I have a ton of hockey cards. Haven't done a lot of collecting in the last year...primarily cause it's hard to find decent hockey in southern Missouri. But I'm hoping to do a set or two over the winter.

I tend to follow ally's thinking in terms of this match. I'm not much of a match rater kind of guy anyway but given the condition Foley was in...the fact that he attempted to finish the match at all gets a lot of respect from me. I can still watch it after 6 years and enjoy it. That's all that matters.

Well, hell, I got fired in my game yesterday and I'm not sure why. I had just regained national (after dropping back to cult for about three weeks or so) and my finances were fine. I could never make any headway on IWA-PR though. They were national at about 35% PI while I was hovering around 10% PI. And every damn week, the weekly report would keep knocking back down any upwards PI progress I had made because I didn't fare well in the comparison to them. Bitches.
