Swing passes and the occasional screen count too.

DeAngelo Williams is only 205lbs and has problems breaking tackles and doesn't have great cutback skills. I think he has the potential to be a bust in the NFL, but based off his numbers right now he's the #3 back. I don't know if the Jets would really be interested in Maroney. They use the RB as a recieving threat out of the backfield pretty often in that system and Maroney doesn't have good recieving skills at this moment. If they took him then it would limit their playcalling quite a bit since they can't send him downfield with much confidence.

I'm not taking trades into consideration though, that's the thing. I agree that the Jets could possibly trade the pick away to fix something, but I'm not going to speculate to which team and for who. I'm just going by the order and team needs. If the Jets got an Alge Crumpler-esque TE that ran people over and was about as automatic as one can get in the endzone then I doubt any Jets fans would cry.

Not for Reggie Bush, and I forgot that when you draft you look for pure athletes and not football players. I'll have to look at the Jets model of drafting since they've been so succesful in the past. Oh, and you're right about it being a halfway point draft. At the halfway point that's where the Jets are. You're talking about the end of the season, not me. This draft gauges where teams are going to be around in draft order when the season is over, and if their spot stays the same what they'll be choosing. By the way, watch DeAngelo Williams and read scouting reports rather than just looking at mock drafts. You might learn something. I feel that Vernon Davis will be the top TE coming out of this draft. Marcedes Lewis is a top flight TE too. You could probably flip a coin with the two, but my personal opinion is that Vernon Davis is better. Lets take a look at the Jets needs though. 1.) QB - There's nobody at their spot (where they're slated now in this mock) worth that pick. 2.) TE - The team does not have one capable of doing anything. Its been a weakness for a loooooong time 3.) O-Line - They're not great, but they're ok if Mawae can return 4.) RB - Curtis Martin is probably 2 years away from calling it a career. He still has something left though if they don't depend completely on him. 5.) WR - Coles is nothing special, Chrebet is retiring, and McCarens(sp?) is solid but not a #1. Still, there's no outstanding WR worth this pick. Vernon Davis is a great TE that I feel will be similiar to Alge Crumpler when he fully develops. He's got amazing hands and can just run people over.

Vince Young has stated he's staying for his senior year. For some reason Mack Brown is able to convince players to stay rather than enter early. Look at Roy Williams, Cedric Benson, and now seniors Rodrique Wright and Jonathan Scott. I don't know how he does it, but he does.
-
Ok, we've established all this.

I don't really see either coming out to be honest. Brady Quinn has just begun to tap into his potential thanks to Charlie Weiss and Omar Jacobs most likely stays another year too as there are alot of questions about his ability to make reads and recognise different defenses. Next year though with Quinn, Young, Jacobs, and Vick all poised to come out...its gonna be a good draft for teams in need of a QB.

Jets fans are always unhappy with the team's pick on draft day (with the exception of Vilma) and Jets management never seems to care. With teams like The Ravens, Dolphins, Cardinals, and possibly the Raiders all looking for a young QB there IS.NO.GUARENTEE. you get a Volek or Rivers. I'm not too impressed with DeAngelo Williams either. He has a chance at being a good back but right now he's under-sized and can't break tackles well. His open field speed is incredible, but in the NFL holes close real fast and breaking through the secondary isn't as easy. I have him rated #3 out of the backs with what he's doing right now, but I have a feeling the sleeper back in this draft is going to be Mike Bell of Arizona.
-
He definately has a good burst but he doesn't have that open field speed to just break away. He's definately a bruiser though and if Packers fans have anything to be excited about this season its him.
-
You probably didn't think they'd draft a kicker in the second round either, but it happened. Philip Rivers will cost you a king's ransom, Drew Brees isn't going anywhere now, Billy Volek might end up a FA and could go to the Jets but its no lock, Patrick Ramsey isn't the answer. This draft goes by team need and by what the team has at the moment, not what they could possibly attain in the future via trades and/or Free Agency (said that at the top but you obviously have a tough time with comprehension). You can clamor for Reggie Bush all you want but if he's already taken then its going to be tough shit for you.
-
Neither back is really somebody you want shouldering the load though. Najeh is a good change of pace back and Tony Fisher provides depth but that's about it. I'll tell you who they do have that I've found impressive and that's Sam Gado. He could be the Packers' version of Bettis/Duckett/Lorenzo Neal in years to come.

You don't seem to understand that this year's draft is going to be crap as far as QBs go after Leinart. By the way, I've watched about 4 Jets games this season and the reason for Martin's dreadful year is the fact he has to shoulder the whole load. Teams are stacking up against the run because there's no passing threat. It also doesn't help that your pro-bowl Center is done for the year. Next year's draft is going to be pretty good for QBs though as you'll most likely see Marcus Vick and Omar Jacobs join Vince Young in the talent pool. Its going to be the year of the Black QB when it comes to the 07 draft.
-
You'll get more value out of Vernon Davis than just taking some back. Curtis Martin has at least another year left in him and next year's draft will be much better when it comes to RB (Adrian Peterson, LenDale White who I think stays at USC to boost his draft value to first round, and Mike Hart) Maybe the Jets will be there to grab him, but right now they aren't in the top 5 in draft order so that doesn't matter. They'd have to be in the top 3 to get him anyways. Not to mention if the Jets are high enough in the order to get Bush then Leinart is most likely still available and they wouldn't pass up on him. Green Bay and Houston aren't going to look at the QB position and I think they're going to be in the top 3.
-
another TE? The Jets haven't drafted a good one in recent memory. Also, if you want to draft a QB then you're looking at drafting Charlie Whitehurst of Clemson. If you want the Jets to take a 3rd/4th round pick with their number one pick then I won't complain. There isn't a RB worth a first round pick that fits the Jets system.

White Sox already bought out the remainder of Frank's contract. Unless he's willing to go back for the league minimum I doubt he rejoins the White Sox.

and I updated picks 15-20

Berry is good but they can still use another DE and you don't turn down a player with the potential of being a Julius Peppers type player. Also, as I previously said, this draft is heavy in defensive line help. You can get a good DT in the second round but you won't get a DE of this caliber that late. Marcedes Lewis is my second TE off the board. He's got alot more TDs but look at the competition his team has faced. Vernon Davis has held his own against some very good defenses and I feel he has alot more upside. Both TEs are going to be very productive though and you can't go wrong with either one.

I don't believe it. subliminal_animal was far too smart to be Banders

He is a little on the small size at 5'11" and 205lbs but he's somebody the Vikings have been scouting all season. I think he's the 3rd best back in the nation though behind Reggie Bush and DeAngelo Williams of Memphis. He seems to be the Vikings' guy though and if he's available for them to grab then he's as good as there. He has big play capability and really only needs to work on his recieving skills.
-
He most likely thinks I hate him too when I just don't care one way or the other. He tends to over-dramatise things alot though and it usually ends up with a pathetically funny quote being born.
-
It might be a bit of a reach but... A.) I went by the team's needs and they are lacking big time at TE. They could have drafted Heath Miller last year but for some reason they shipped off a first rounder for Doug Jolley and a few later round picks. B.) This is the Jets. Making a reach pick is never unusual for them.
-
barron, you and I are suppose to be bff now! We made a pact, don't go back on it now
-
Vince young is a Randall Cunningham/Daunte Culpepper mold of QB. I'm sure the Ravens would take a chance on him as a first round pick if he had declared. He'll certainly be a first round talent next year barring injuries.
-
I just pointed out why people were giving him shit. Its cause he wasn't citing sources. Slappy must have ran to his Green Republican refuge though and complained so the other idiots would come start stuff since he's too much of a bitch to ever really stand up for himself. I'll leave it at that since I don't want to derail this thread more than it has to be.

This draft is going to be loaded with talent on the D-Line. Green Bay could still get a first round talent D-Lineman with their second round pick.
