That's what you think. Smuesette will probably beg to differ, especially if it's someone from her side.

    Getting Married

Our ceremony started a half hour late because my wife's grandparents were late getting to the chapel. Thus, we couldn't do that whole official "seating of the grandparents" thing. The reason for their being late? They were riding with her aunt and two cousins and one of the cousins apparently refused to get in the car to go to the chapel until she finished painting her toenails. I should also mention that the Toenail Painter was wearing close-toed shoes.

12 hours?? Did you two take individual photos with each guest at the wedding or something? Why in the hell would it take so long?

Lance Berkman has reportedly been suspended for two games for his tirade the other night. Suspension will begin tonight if not appealed.

I don't want him to get it just so ESPN won't spend the next 10 days talking about how magical Schilling's no-hitter is/was, his place in history as the greatest Red Sox pitcher EVER, and running a "feature stoyr" on the website where they rank all the no-hitters ever thrown.

Randy Johnson isn't a good pitcher? If you ignore the fact that it's only taken him about 1,000 less IP to get to 4,600 K's than Clemens did, maybe you could start to make such an argument.

    Getting Married

If you keep turning the volume on the TV/radio/whatever louder until you drown out the sound of her voice, you should be fine. Oh, and be prepared for the worst on your wedding day. The only one of our vendors that delivered everything they were supposed to was our harpist.

Does anybody realize that, with 51 games gone this season, Lance Berkman has ONE double? That is an unbelievable statistic.

    American Idol

A couple of women here at the office were just talking about last night and commenting on how bad Kelly looked because "she's got too much junk in the trunk." I told them they were crazy.

5/22: #25, The King James Version Of Game Closeouts

I guess that only applies to picking on a particular player via the PA system because the Cowboys played "Rockin' Robin" when the Eagles were introduced last year and that annoying "meow meow meow meow" song from the Meow Mix commericals when the Lions came onto the field.

    Teachers that got fired

My baseball coach was "let go" after my junior year for cussing us out after a game. We were having a shitty season (I'm talking getting beat by about 12 runs a game shitty), and he finally reached his breaking point. Two of the seniors, who weren't even going to be on the team the next year, ratted him out. Then, my senior year, the volleyball coach was also "let go" mysteriously with about a month and a half left in the school year. The official reason was that she'd gotten another job across the state and, since our school's season was over, they were letting her go ahead and leave so that she could get settled in her new town. However, I've got it on good authority (i.e. my parents' neighbor, who was the school board president at the time) that the real reason she was fired was because she'd gotten drunk one night at the county fair with three or four of the boys from the school and fucked at least one (only one is confirmed, anyway) of them in the back of his truck in the parking lot. Apparently, the only way the parents agreed to not pursue a possible suit against the district and/or charges against her was if she was fired immediately. So they did.

Fair enough. I misinterpreted your earlier comments as being condescending Sox fan crap.

As if one good season out of 88 exempts the Sox from "perennial loser" status?

For me personally, not too much. My not being from Chicago and thus missing out on the daily interaction between the fanbases and the media coverage of both teams is obviously a big reason for that, but I don't view them as "big" games or anything special. I don't really have a reason to hate the White Sox. However, I do enjoy the sniping that goes on between the fans and all the drama that comes out of it when, say, Michael Barrett punches A.J. Pierzynski right in the face, even if it was a stupid thing to do. The closest I've ever gotten to Sox hate was when this asshole vendor who was selling Sox gear on the street outside Wrigley was getting right in my face and repeatedly screaming "CUBS SUCK!" to me when I came up for the Cardinals series last August. But even then, that was more me hating that guy than the Sox. A good example of my feelings was the '05 World Series. I was much more excited about the Astros (whom I hate and personally view as the Cubs' #1 rival) losing the series than I was angry about the Sox winning, if that makes any sense. Aside from it being the "wrong" Chicago team taking home the trophy, it didn't bother me that the Sox won. I seem to remember you and other Cub fans not having the same reaction.

No, it's not that. Speaking from the Houston perspective, it's more because the Rangers, being in the AL and not having been much good throughout their history, haven't been on the radar of Houston sports fans, well, ever. Thus, unlike in football, where Houston fans are jealous of the Cowboys because they've actually won something in their history, there's no real reason for either fanbase to get fired up towards the other. As far as they're concerned, the other team is just the other Texas team in that other league. Well, except Drayton McLane. He thinks winning the silver boot means something. But he's the only one. Even the players say that the silver boot means nothing to them.

And I question how much the regional rivalries thing matters even. It makes Mets/Yanks and Cubs/White Sox fun, but Royals/Rockies and Padres/Mariners aren't even real regional rivalries. And just speaking from experience, even one that you think might have some heat, Astros/Rangers, draws a very mild reaction from fans on both sides.
