A fair assessment viva, but I have to ask you if you see much differnece between this paragraph: and this one: The Cubs and Astros are closer to each other than you probably want to admit and I don't think either is a serious contender.

    The TSM Suggestion Box

Plus, I read somewhere their periods attract bears. Bears can smell the menstruation. And if there's one thing we don't need at TSM, it's a bunch of bears roaming freely.

Oh come on. Carlos Lee is a nice player, but he's not an elite slugger like everyone around town is building him up to be. If Ensberg isn't productive this year, the Astros are dead because a lineup with Berkman/Lee is not enough, particularly when you have Biggio, Ausmus, and Everett getting as many AB's as they do.

Jeff Bagwell being on that list surpirses me, but I suppose it shouldn't given that he didn't do anything in 2005 or 2006.

2/19: Crappy Wedding Gifts Aren't Awesome

Christ, maybe I should re-think this marriage thing. We registered for some new blue towels with bubbles on them (to replace the 6-month-old, barely-used blue towels already in the bathroom) because they're "cute" and will help "liven up" the guest bathroom. I asked why exactly the bathroom needed to be "livened up" in the first place; are we encouraging people to spend more time in there or something? All I got for a response was an eye roll and a "you just don't get it." Get what???

2/9: A Friday Night LOVE FEST, KKK Style

A somewhat humorous note about that fattest cities thing: when Houston topped the list a few years ago, the former token black mayor, Lee Brown, declared a "war on fat" and hired Lee Labrada to be Houston's "Fitness Czar." He and the 14 members of City Council pledged to begin dieting and exercising for 60 days and would then have a big weigh-in to show how much they lost in order to inspire other Houstonians to do the same thing. The total amount of weight lost by those 15 people in 60 days? 37 pounds! I don't think that's quite what they were hoping for.

    Favre is returning

Would you give up a 3rd round pick for him? Because the speculation here is that is what the Texans will ask for in return.

That was beautiful, viva. I get your point, but it doesn't change the fact that Roger Clemens is continuing this "will I or won't I" saga every year for nothing other than the media attention and adulation it brings him. And if that's what he wants, that's fine. That's his prerogative. We're all just sick of him doing this every single year; listening to him whine about how tough it is on his body to get in shape, about how a team needs to be competitive (as if any team doesn't want to win) to be worth his precious time, and basically demanding to pitch only when he damn well feels like it. If he'd just come out and say "I'm pitching, but not until June, and it'll be for the Astros again," nobody would say a word.

It's a nice gesture, as long as he does the same thing in regards to NFL Sunday Ticket.

    Super Bowl XLI

Under no circumstances do I want to see the Cowboys part with two first round draft picks for Lovie Smith or anybody else to be the head coach. I would hope Jerry Jones has learned a lesson on how well that works after getting fleeced in the Joey Galloway trade a few years back. Then again, with Jerry running the draft again the two first round picks are likely to be wasted if we keep them so maybe it's 6 of one, half dozen of another.

    Car Max

My fiancee bought a Saturn from CarMax a couple of years back. It wasn't the best experience because the A/C didn't work at all like they swore it did (kind of important in Houston in early summer) and there was a problem with one of the ball bearings getting so overheated that the car wouldn't turn/brake properly. Carmax fixed the A/C, but it was after a half hour of haggling with the guy; he tried to give us some bullshit about their 30-day warranty not covering A/C since it was a "luxury" item. They flat out refused to fix the ball bearing and she ended up paying about $900 at the Saturn dealership to get it fixed. Now whether those problems were Carmax's fault or not I don't know. I'm thinking it might be the car since she's had another brake problem since then and her engine leaks oil every so often, but I'd be beware when dealing with them. Even if the mechanical problems she's had weren't Carmax's fault, they still should have been more than happy to fix them since it fell under warranty.

    Facility and Photographer....booked.

My one cousin had a harpist play her wedding a few years ago and we've got one for our wedding coming up in April. I'd recommed you go ahead and hire one because it is definitely better than just playing a CD.

What the fuck? SNOW in southern California?

We're going to have high temperatures of about 34 degrees the next two days with freezing rains down here. Now that's really cold/nasty for this part of the world, but you'd think the apocolypse was upon us. TV news is running graphics of "ARCTIC BLAST" and "THE BIG CHILL" with spooky music playing, people are stocking up on canned goods and batteries, and three people in my office have called in today due to "the weather" ("the weather" for today being upper 40's with a slow, steady rain--something we've had three or four time already this year). It's really pathetic.

Biggio is going to have to die before the Astros remove him from the starting 2B job. You should have heard the outrage around town when they DFA'ed Preston Wilson last year. He was the only black player they've had in a while, and people were seriously saying the Astros are a racist organization who intentionally set up Wilson to fail so they could release him and play Luke Scott. Of course, these are the same people who got on them for trading the "other black guy" (Willy Tavares) last month despite Willy actually being Dominican, so consider the source. But the racist accusations actually happened.
