7/19: #72, Black People And Stealing

I thought it was funny...once I _ead the last little item. -
But doesn't that "make up" for the favorable call the Yankees got at first base the other day when they tied the game in the ninth?
-
Dude, you aren't helping the stereotype that we're all a bunch of backwater hicks. Granted, 95% of the people here speak improperly most of the time, but not ALL of us. As for a real baseball comment, it's Clemens v. Maddux tonight. Third time they're opposed each other, and only the 7th time in history two 300-game winners are matched up. Should be good.

Astros start off the post ASB happenings by announcing that they've traded minor leaguers Mitch Talbot and Ben Zobrist for Aubrey Huff. Also, Jason Lane is sent down to Round Rock and Super Joe McEwing is DFA. ----- Lane going down is the right thing to do, but Zobrist should have been their starting SS coming out of the break.

You're all forgetting that ESPN doesn't think hockey counts as a real sport.

You think ESPN sucks? Well, NFL Network is Worse?

I heard something about a "dunk contest" at the end of it last night that resulted in many "dunks" getting blocked by the bottom of the rim. Did that actually happen? -

You get better analysis than that here at TSM. -

I don't get NFL Network either, but what are they supposed to do? Read the daily transaction wire from each team or give updates on how much weight an offensive lineman is working out with on a given day? I guess you could make the argument that they should show more old/classic games, but with the ridiculous amount of airtime they have to fill during the offseason even that would get old because there are only so many "classic" games out there to show. Who would want to watch a random Vikings/Lions game from week 3 of the 1982 season? -
People are getting on Ensberg because after a red-hot April and productive May, he has almost completly hit a wall. Look at his numbers since June 1: .163 BA (13/80), with only 4 doubles and 2 HR. He's drawing a ton of walks, but that's not enough in that lineup everyday. His typical line each game is 0-2, 2 BB. That makes him a pretty good leadoff hitter but isn't so helpful when he's counted on to be one of the big bats in the lineup. EDIT: Ensberg's OPS splits: April: 1.232 May: .779 June: .588 July: .859 Yep. He changes batting stances FROM PITCH TO PITCH. You don't do that if you're at all comfortable at the plate.

Why are you so attached to Tavares? He is only 23 but has shown zero signs of being more than what he currently is: a fast guy who doesn't walk, has zero pop in his bat, and can be shaky with the glove. If the Astros can get a useful player for him, they really ought to consider it, especially if they guy can hit at all.

Maybe they're hoping somebody will actually watch it by having it in the middle of the game.

7/11: Striking Out At Pseudo-Hunger Protesters

Ha. I love this quote from Phil. Everyone here keeps mentioning the fact that they Astros lost those 4 games by a total of only 6 runs, in an attempt to argue that the Series was actually really close and could have gone either way...maybe even turned out differently if the Astros had had home field. I then point out that maybe the Astros should try getting a runner home from third with one out in the ninth inning of a tie game (ala Game 3) instead and then maybe things would have been different. -
I'll take a pass on that, but at least "Believe the Buzz" is a better slogan than their lame "It's On" from last year. Good God the Astros suck with RISP.
-
That is why it's not gonna happen for the Astros this year. Last year, the whole pitching staff was lights out and all those no-name guys in the pen were more than dependable. This year...not so much.

Only 46,000 miles on a car that's 12 years old? Do you ever actually leave the driveway with it?

7/6: #76, Encompassing My Opinions (Part II)
sfaJack commented on kkktookmybabyaway's blog entry in KK's Korner
Emmitt Smith is a greater running back than Marshall Faulk simply because Faulk had no interest in blocking anyone, ever. Emmitt would knock you on your ass. And just as an extra side note, any time anyone questions Emmitt's greatness (yes, I know you're not, but there are idiots out there who think he sucked), I refer them to January 2, 1994 when the Cowboys beat the Giants on the road to win the division. Emmitt rushed 32 times for 168 yards and caught 10 balls for 61 yards , all with a separated shoulder. -
Why would Dusty care? It's pretty clear that they're not going to fire him during the season, so he probably feels he's free to do whatever he wants. Besides, the company line has been their struggles are all because Wood, Prior, and Lee have all been out, so Phil Nevin playing the outfield couldn't possibly have anything to do with their pathetic performance. With two of those three back, IT'S GONNA TURN AROUND ANY DAY NOW!!!!!!
-
I haven't followed him hardly at all since the Rockets dumped him, but while he was here I think he had as many arrests as he had good games.
-
It's amazing that they can go 41-42 the rest of the way (which appears unlikely) and still win 95 games. To me, they're as close to a mortal lock for the postseason as you can be at this point in the season.
-
I still can't believe the Rockets traded THREE number one picks for this guy... Link
-
Those guys would be Brett Dolan and Dave Raymond. They've been ok thus far. You can tell they're still trying to figure out how to gel together. I miss Ashby though. Milo, on the other hand, is old and senile and needs to quit. He "miscalls" at least one or two plays a game and his ridiculous homerism is as irritating as ever.
-
There's a guy at work I talk baseball with occassionally; the other day he was trying to argue that the Tigers are overrated based almost entirely on the fact that they have losing records against the Red Sox, White Sox, and Yankees this season, AKA the "real class teams of the American League." So yes, they will be doubted until they go to the World Series.
-
I thought the whole reason the Rockets got rid of James in the first place was because McGrady didn't like that he was a shoot-first guard who wouldn't pass. Why would they want to bring him back if that's the case?
-
I was hoping I wasn't the only one who saw that. Good god, what kind of argument is that to not have your best pitcher on the mound--"they're programmed ONLY to get the last three outs and thus don't pitch as well when it's not a save situation." WHAT THE FUCK?????
-
Considering the Giants were one of the worst 11-5 teams the NFL has ever had last year I'll be happy if they're on that same level this year. With as tough as the East is going to be, they would finish no better than 3rd, further opening the door for the Cowboys to play in the NFC Championship Game.
