I believe it's 9/26. SummerSlam and the Coliseum ripoff Shawn Michaels are 9/12. Matches, off the top of my head, are: Guerreros in 6 man tag at AWA SuperClash III The When World's Collide tag with Eddie vs. Malenko (ECW 2/3 falls) vs. Jericho at Fall Brawl 1997 vs. Mysterio at Halloween Havoc 1997 vs. Chavo at Bash at the Beach 1998 vs. RVD at Raw (ladder match) 3 way tag match (Survivor Series 2002) vs. Benoit (Vengeance 2003) vs. Lesnar (No Way Out 2004) There's another thread somewhere with the info, and pwinsider.com shows it on its main page almost once weekly I believe. It's more complete there. Jason Edit: added the 10th and final match

If I was going to get 5 DVDs to start a ROH collection, which ones would be the best choices? Thanks again, with this and the Von Erich thread in Old School, it seems like my collection will be getting a little wider with more US promotions. Jason

Anytime. Actually, maybe I want to ask more questions. What are the 5 best wrestling cards they have on DVD? As in, which are the top to bottom 5 best cards they've produced? Things like that. Personally, ROH storylines aren't what I would be interested in. I think for me, and perhaps for others, we just want the best wrestling they can offer. Thanks again guys. Jason

I never saw any WCCW, so I'm just wondering if this matchlist is worth a purchase? *Kerry & Kevin & David Von Erich & Iceman King Parsons vs. The Fabulous Freebirds *WCCW Six-Man Tag Team Championship with David & Kerry & Kevin Von Erich vs. The Fabulous Freebirds *Kevin Von Erich vs. Chris Adams from the Cotton Bowl *Kerry Von Erich vs. Michael Hayes *Kerry Von Erich vs. Gino Hernandez *Kevin Von Erich vs. Chris Adams from the Reunion Arena *Kerry Von Erich vs. Terry Gordy Those are the matches stated on pwinsider.com, but there are no dates. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Jason

I have. He's the one bright spot of the "new talent" that is getting their chance to play every day under Guillen. He's become a very reliable everyday center fielder. Jason

I think spoiler tags are a good idea for the European games that get played at 1pm/12 C, but I don't think there'll be a need for the games played at night. Just me throwing an idea out there. Jason Edit: Now that I just thought about it, how about the people on the board from Europe? When do you get the North American games, and would you like spoiler tags for the games played around 7pm eastern time?

Rebuttal: False. TNA cannot become a legit "competitor" along the lines of WCW to WWE under any circumstances. Could someone else, with lots of money, a great writing/booking staff and a great production team compete with those guys at the top of the card? I do believe that, but not TNA. They just don't have the resources. Statement: Monty Brown will win the NWA title before the end of the year. Jason

I vote that he's dead.
-
Rebuttal: He at least deserves a shot in a singles division, be it X or heavyweight. The tag team stuff with Elix Skipper was a good introduction, but he's too talented to be a tag teamer his whole TNA career. Statement: Pushing Jeff Hardy to world title matches as if he's the second coming of The Rock is a mistake since his last national exposure was as a brother tag team and a mid-card single. Jason

My thoughts on the games today. The US basketball team played a really good game today. Really, the biggest problems for them were on the defensive end, but that comes as no surprise to anyone. They simply cannot defend a screen at the top of the key for a 3-pointer, as they seemed to want to smother the screen and go underneath as opposed to a help/recover or even a simple show to slow down the shooter. Basically, the defensive breakdowns on the perimeter, and by post players (how many times did the Lithuanians get easy passes to the paint because our big men lost their men?), aided the comeback. The other problem was the officiating. The fourth quarter foul discrepency was something like 16 to 2 for the Lithuanians. Compared to when the Americans were getting an enormous amount (comparatively) of foul shots in the first three quarters, the Lithuanian team didn't drive the hole to earn the shots. The US was called for a bunch of tick tack fouls and the Lithuanians could chip away at the lead with the clock stopped. But, they still made the shots and they deserved the win because the Americans couldn't defend the perimeter. The US women in track and field (or athletics, or whatever) were extremely disappointing today, with the pole vaulter not even making the finals and Devers not making the 100m final. Plus, losing the 100m for the first time in 20 years isn't good for US track. Swimming was good today, with the women's and men's relays showing how dominant some countries are. I'm still ticked that they chopped 8 minutes out of the 1500m freestyle on NBC during the 2 minute commercial. Iraq's soccer team seemed quite lucky in their 1-0 win. The Aussies barely were offside on their goal to get it called off, and Iraq capitalized right away. But, Australia seemed like they controlled the game pretty much the whole time before the small stretch where they lost the game. Water polo is a fun sport, and it's a shame it gets such horrible timeslots most of the time. Russia built up too large a lead, and the US just couldn't come back. Russia's apparently good, though, so such is life. Trampoline jumping is just ridiculous. I'm sure it's difficult and all, and that I couldn't do it (what the Olympians do), but it's not Olympic worthy for sure and it's a crime that it actually passed the brainstorm stage of the IOC. That's about it for today. Jason

I still think they should have had Benoit win this month because Orton makes a mistake (veteran over inexperience), then Orton learns from the mistake and wins next month. But, they had their mind set on it, so it was going to be done regardless. Now they have to switch focus... Who am I kidding. The focus will remain the same, on HHH and Orton, where it always has been. But, if it makes them money, I won't criticize them for it because that's their goal. I just think they could have made more money doing it my way. Jason

This is the only crowd ever in Canada during the face Benoit run that hasn't been good for him. They think they're being cool, but they're just hurting their favorite guy and it's a shame. Jason
-
I have a feeling Toronto might never get another PPV again. Jason
-
Well, Edge is quite possibly the biggest failure that HHH thought would be a good opponent yet, and that's saying something. Jason
-
Cena v. Booker next. This match is so meaningless, although this may give us another "read" into who will win the Benoit match, so to speak. Of course, odds are I'm reading into things too much anyway. Jason
-
If they want Benoit to lose the title tonight, they should have had the faces win the opener. You can't have heels win meaningless matches when the overwhelming crowd favorite will lose. Who knows. Hopefully Benoit keeps the title. Jason

3 PPV in 6 weeks Experiment Results for WWE
ISportsFan replied to strummer's topic in The WWE Folder
I might be making an "excuse," but was the 2 week build-up of Benoit/HHH written nearly as well as the 4 week build-up of HHH/HBK, not even including that HHH/HBK have nearly 4 years of backstory? Did HHH and HBK have their entire match revolve around Eugene, like Benoit had to deal with? Like the aforementioned point, was the fanbase put through the 3rd PPV in 6 weeks for Benoit/HHH, or the first in 4 weeks like HHH/HBK? There are many more points, including HHH/HBK having a world title match as part of their undercard. Statistically, HHH/HBK won by about 50,000 or whatever. But, this was set up to work that way, and I think anyone who isn't bent on making it seem as if Benoit is a failure as champion sees it this way. It's not strictly facts, but the entire situation that caused the difference. Jason -
I have a whole ton of tapes, DVDs, and some other stuff like a Hart Foundation shirt and the two WM XX championship plaques. I would never sell it, barring a sudden loss of interest I can't see forthcoming. Jason

Cool/Historic Stuff You've Seen Live
ISportsFan replied to Boner Kawanger's topic in General Wrestling
I went to the RAW in Chicago where Foley had his first free TV match in over 4 years with the 8 man tag (Evolution v. Benoit/Michaels/Benjamin/Foley). Also, the RAW about a month later in Rockford where Michaels and HHH fought all night backstage and they announced the cell match. Not much, but the Foley thing was pretty cool. Jason -
Bingo. When too many people submit lists to create a master list, problems happen. For instance, someone like Max Kellerman would put tons of boxing memories near the top, Peter Gammons will have 100 baseball memories, and similarly for other "experts" from certain sports. Therefore, these lists have no rhyme or reason to the ordering. Jason

Bears was not "most of the 80s." It was, at best, the mid-80s. They were on the bigtime downslide after 1986 again. Jason

My thoughts (it was updated on the pwinsider.com site and on the first post in the thread, so the whole show is updated): Is it just me, or does it seem like Smackdown this week will be better than Raw was? They're building week to week (like Raw did during Raw's best streak in years -- Michaels/Benoit, the huge 5 match card, the 8 man tag all in a row) with the US title match this week and WWE title match next week. Paul London and Billy Kidman can revitalize the tag division if they're given the chance. Will they? Probably not, but it's worth a shot. The cruisers were put in a 6 man, and I'm a happy man. It just seems like everything is going forward, and angles are at least progressing, unlike Raw where the world title program doesn't even have a storyline other than HHH and Eugene. Color me impressed with the spoilers, so I'll watch this week. Jason

I disagree. Armageddon was built on the 6-way HIAC. There was nothing else of any prominence on the show, and it was the pure definition of a one-match show. The card was anything but decent. From prowrestlinghistory.com: Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, & Eddie Guerrero beat Lita, Matt & Jeff Hardy (8:06, elimination match) WWF European Champ William Regal pinned Hardcore Holly (4:59) Val Venis pinned Chyna (5:02) Chris Jericho beat Kane (17:16) in a "last man standing" match Edge & Christian beat The Dudley Boys, Road Dogg & K-Kwik, and The Goodfather & Bull Buchanan (9:42) in a "fatal four way" match to win the WWF Tag Title when Christian pinned Buh Buh Chris Benoit beat Billy Gunn (10:03) via submission to win the WWF I-C Title WWF Women's Champ Ivory beat Trish Stratus and Molly Holly (2:12) in a "triangle" match when she pinned Stratus WWF World Champ Kurt Angle beat The Rock, Steve Austin, Rikishi, Triple H, and The Undertaker (32:14) in a "hell in a cell" match when he pinned The Rock. Does that look appealing in any way? Not other than the main event. Jason

The running commentary in the Alley Fight with Slaughter and Patterson was really annoying (the alternate track with the match). It was really blatently from the "old school = real" mentality, saying that Vince Sr. didn't plan the finish of the match, that everything "really hurt," that they were really trying to take each other's heads off, and Slaughter actually believing that this match was the greatest match of all time. It was kind of like listening to 60 year olds talk about their high school football days, when the sport had real men who never sat out for injuries and their games were 10x better than the games today. The match wasn't bad, though. Jason

Now, were you being serious, or was this a pun? If it isn't going to be handicap match mania tonight, though, the only other main event I think we'll get is a 6-man with Evolution against Benoit/Jericho/Edge. Or, the dreaded main event interview. Jason
