If AJ Burnett signs with the Blue Jays, the Marlins get screwed. The Blue Jays have the #14 pick in the draft - meaning that the pick is protected and can not to transferred to the Marlins. They have already given up their 2nd round pick in the BJ Ryan signing (he is rated higher by Elias) - so that would leave the Marlins with the Blue Jays 3rd round pick as well as the sandwich pick. Not exactly Class A.
  2. Well I was in to it from the beginning - so should he have just ended it then?

UNC is ranked 24 in the latest poll. That didn't take long.

That would be interesting. Eventually get the "real" flashbacks. That would be cool.

They didn't just get a PTBNL. They got Gaby Hernandez, the Mets #3 prospect.

Next year's team (not totally because I can't even begin to speculate who will come in for Pierre and Villone so for the sake of this discussion, JP is still on the team) C: Josh Willingham 1B: Mike Jacobs 2B: Robert Andino or Josh Wilson SS: Hanley Ramirez 3B: Miguel Cabrera LF: Joe Dillon (??) CF: Juan Pierre RF: Jeremy Hermida SPs: Dontrelle Willis Scott Olsen Jason Vargas Brian Moehler Whatever prospect is most ready I should also mention that there is heavy talk of one or two of the pitching prospects going to Tampa Bay for Toby Hall and Joey Gathright.

Dodgers, Angels, and Marlins are at the top. Dodgers are still stacked and the Angels have a ton of potential superstar players. I'd say Marlins - but I'm biased.

    SNL Review

What about the Target skit with the candles and the weird cashiers? Very stupid. I laughed at the cold opening but things went downhill from there - fast. How is Dane Cook a hot comedian right now? He laughs at his own jokes - very noticeably. Annoying.

That's just insanity. Maybe if they packaged LoDuca and Delgado they could have gotten Milledge. Now LoDuca is going to bring back some marginal guys no doubt.

I'm finding it hard to believe that UNC is ranked #35 right now. Almost beat Illinois and they jus beat Kentucky on the road. Ginyard and Frasor are gonna be great players.
  11. I know there was a thread for fired managers, but that doesn't really encompass very much. I figure this can be a thread for all things that may not necessarily be worthy of their own thread. I can start it off with some news that I personally find thrilling: Joe Girardi is the new manager of the Florida Marlins. It will officially be announced on Thursday. Rumors of a potential coaching staff have included Mel Stottlemyre, Don Zimmer, Don Baylor, and Andres Galaragga as hitting coach. I'm 100% convinced that he has what it takes to carry the Marlins to the next level - but we'll see.

Luis Castillo has been traded to the Twins for two pitchers, Travis Bowyer and Scott Tyler. Apparently, Travis Bowyer will be the Marlins new closer.

    College Hoops: November

UNC played a great game against Illinois. I expected them to get blown out, but I watched to see the freshmen. They played extremely well - especially Ginyard and Hansbrough. They'll be decent by the end of the year.

I'm telling you - Mike Lowell is gonna be one of the most popular guys in Fenway next year. He hit ALOT of long fly ball outs to left field that were just lazy harmless popups in the Pro but will be out and over the Green Monster. On top of that, he waited TWO whole days before getting in touch with his minor league hitting coach and getting back to work on his swing. He's gonna be totally rejuvinated next year - I can almost guarantee a Sports Guy Mike Lowell juvination machine column.

Does anyone like actually going to the games?

I went to two games last year at the Smith Center where I sat courtside. Two of the finest experiences of my sporting life. I got to watch Maryland and the Heels warm up from courtside and unfortunately I got to the Georgia Tech game about 20 minutes before tipoff - so I missed all of that. But the feeling (especially in the risers behind the UNC hoop) when they show the team coming up of the locker room - they all gather and pray and then "Jump Around" starts playing and the entire student section goes absolutely batshit is one of the few things that gave me goosebumps and it was just one of those Holy Shit moments. I'll never forget being a part of it. I also love going to baseball games - watching BP and chatting up players. Nothing beats it.

It's not really a fire sale. People want to say that, but it's for a different reason. Last time - Huizenga just took his money and ran. This time, they tried everything they could to draw fans. Added payroll, signed big free agents, and nobody still came out. So now the fans have to deal with the repercussions. Last time it was unfortunate for everybody. This time... I honestly think it's deserved. I don't love this trade. I would have if Milledge was involved, but I guess not even the Mets are that stupid. Petit is ok and Jacobs will probably end up as our 1B. Now we still need to find out what prospects we are going to get for LoDuca and Pierre.

I would f'n love that trade.
  22. To be honest - I'm pretty excited about it. I'm a big prospects guy and the whole Marlins team is going to be prospects. It can combine my two favorite things about baseball together. I hope everyday that the Marlins trade Delgado to the Mets for Milledge and Petit or to the Dodgers for Andy Laroche and Chad Billingsley. And more prospects for Pierre and LoDuca too. I'm pretty excited for next season even though they will probably lose 90+.
