    This Week in Baseball

To be honest, I am still holding out hope for a run at the NL East. There's a lot of games left with the Braves to make up ground. Although a run at the WC is much more realistic.

Hey, Czech, there is another team that is only 2.5 out of the Wild Card that looks like they might be putting it together. Cubs have a lot to worry about.

Maybe this game by D-Train will shut up all of the know-it-all-columnists who have been saying I told you so about this mini-slump. You'd think they would learn that it takes more than two seasons to establish a pattern. Any good statistician will tell you that n=2 just isn't high enough, but somehow Jay Mariotti and whoever else will swear that Dontrelle just "can't pitch in the second half." Drives me crazy.

    Entourage>Wrestling

Love Entourage. I don't have HBO, so I have to wait for the DVD but I really loved the first season. Ari: Vince, just got done with the frog. He loves you. He wants to wrap you in a towel and throw you a bagette.

No way the Mets got Soriano for only Cameron and Milledge. Milledge has shown great flashes of talent, but he has been arrested and isn't exactly a sure thing. The Mets probably would have thrown in Yusmeiro Petit and one other player as well. But if that's right, that's a bad trade for all of the other teams in the NL East. And pinjockey, that's probably just crazy Philly sportsfan talk. There has been ZERO mention of that trade anywhere in Marlin land. The Marlins wouldn't do it anyway.
  6. You can't make this shit up. Next time he's on PTI he'll definitely bring it up. I'm a hero, now where's TO's money?? EDIT: D'oh. Should say drowning.

    Weekend Box Office Report

No, I'm not confused. Lost in Translation fucking sucked in my eyes. It's not a good film, too artsy. But the fact that it got tons of Oscar buzz generated publicity and made it a BIG FILM. Believe it or not, around January or February, MANY MANY people attempt to see all the films nominated for Best Picture and by that point it was already out on DVD.

    Weekend Box Office Report

Lost in Translation IS a big film. Give it up, dude. I bet you're thinking it's not because of the Box Office numbers. It was a smaller film that didn't play on that many screens. It generated mega Oscar buzz and was heavily featured in the months before the Oscars. A lot of people did see Lost in Translation. I bet if you could find the rental/DVD sales numbers you'd finally give it up.

Well, everybody knows how much I love Miguel Cabrera, but it's going to pretty hard for everyone else to ignore him if he keeps this up. 5 HRs in the last 5 games. He's 2nd in the NL in hitting, creeping up the leaderboards in both HR and RBI and he's only 22! A lot of people say that he isn't nearly as good of a hitter as Albert Pujols - but I'm not so sure.

    Weekend Box Office Report

Curry might be going about this the wrong way, but he is right. Lost in Translation was nominated for Best Picture, garnered a ton of praise, was featured everywhere and starred Scarlett. In Good Company had a commercial on every 15 seconds on any given channel. She even appeared as herself on the hit TV show Entourage. He's right, you're wrong.

You're getting Beckett and Burnett confused.

    This Week in Baseball

Delgado just hit one into McCovey Cove, and then Miguel followed up with another HR to straightaway CF. Seems like every other game they are hitting them back to back. Of course, it's not, they have only done it 4 times, but I think 3 of them have been in the past two weeks. Now let's just hope that Beckett goes 6 innings and stays injury free.

Sporting News is reporting that Nevin will most likely veto the trade. Ha.

Orioles trade Sidney Ponson to the Padres for Phil Nevin. The Padres then traded two minor leaguers to the Reds for Joe Randa. The Burnett/Orioles trade is DEAD.

Those are overall rankings, Bauer. Like 1 is the best in Derrek Lee and so forth, making Damon, in fact, the worst.

    Hogan Knows Best

Caught the early morning one. I'll hold most of my comments until after everyone can see it tonight - but it was just as good as last week. If not better. It's more focused on Nick this week. Best Parts: This is an awesome show.

Baseball Prospectus publishes its VORP rankings (Value Over Replacement Player) here: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statisti...index.php?cid=1 VORP measures the number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances. VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense -- so this list is based on offense only. Here are the starting lineups, with the player's overal VORP MLB ranking in parentheses: AL: C Jason Varitek-BOS (35) 1B Mark Teixeira-TEX (31) 2B Brian Roberts-BAL (3) SS Miguel Tejada-BAL (4) 3B Alex Rodriguez-NYY (5) OF Gary Sheffield-NYY (9) OF Hideki Matsui-NYY (18) OF Johnny Damon-BOS (23) DH David Ortiz-BOS (7) NL C Paul Lo Duca-FLA (86) 1B Derrek Lee-CHC (1) 2B Chase Utley-PHI (20) SS Felipe Lopez-CIN (22) 3B Morgan Ensberg-HOU (11) OF Miguel Cabrera-FLA (6) OF Bobby Abreu-PHI (10) OF Jason Bay-PIT (13) DH Albert Pujols-STL (2) The AL starting lineup is pretty close to the actual lineup. The NL lineup is pretty different. My favorite part, of course, is Miguel Cabrera being ranked the most productive outfielder in all of baseball. Thanks Baseball Prospectus.
  20. I've been saying the same thing to all of my friends. Not only 1000 pages long, but with very little dead space.

    My new computer...

The 20 incher... They have a deal now where you get a free iPod mini or equivalent value with a purchase. I'm gonna use it towards the 20 gb color iPod at the student price and end up getting it for around $90. Picking it up tomorrow. Can't friggin' wait.

    IPOD Help....

No, you can connect it with a regular USB port but it will just go a bit slower. With firewire or USB 2.0, you can upload songs nearly instantly, but with a regular USB it takes a small bit of time.

    This Week in Baseball

Delgado and Cabrera just hit absolute bombs on back to back pitches. Then poor Mike Lowell hits a rocket up the middle that Craig Counsell makes a diving stab at and turns a double play. Lowell must be on the verge of suicide right about now...especially with the thought of playing in Pittsburgh.
  24. Florida gets: Bronson Arroyo Kelly Shoppach Sean Burroughs Boston Gets: AJ Burnett Mike Lowell San Diego Gets: Abe Alvarez I don't know what the fuck to even think about this. At least Lowell's albatross of a salary is gone. It's not anywhere in print, but it's on the radio. Not yet confirmed but apparently just about done. EDIT: Now that I think about it... I believe it. Lowell sat out today and they showed him crying in the dugout at one point. At first I thought he was just being a pussy about his slump and kind of forgot about it. I guess I get it now. Just remembered that.
