To clarify, he hasn't, to my knowledge, actually let his daughter have an abortion, but he was asked what he would do if she did get pregnant and he said something along the lines of 'we would come together as a family and make that decision and it would remain private'. Which is basically saying abortion would be an option for them. Mccain is all over the place on abortion. He said in 1999 he'd never support a roe vs wade overturn because of all the illegal abortions that could happen. But now he's acting like its his number one priority. Jon Stewart had a funny line about this (but he was talking about Mitt Romney): 'Life doesn't begin at conception, its begins when you want to run for president.'

Even if it flops in theatres, Death race looks like it could be a big hit on DVD, like a lot of Jason Statham's films. Its lukewarm release might be a bad sign though, since I think deathrace was Statham's first big test to see if he really could be a bankable star (like Brad Pitt or George Clooney) and carry a big budget film.

I think there's a line in there about God knowing you in the womb, or something like that, which could be interprated as saying life begins at conception and therefore abortion is wrong. Abortion has always been a practical issue, rather than a religious one for me. If a woman is determined to get one, making it illegal isn't going to stop her. There seems to be a lot of people out there under the deluded impression banning abortion will somehow eradicate it. Even in countries where abortion is illegal, women just order pills off the internet now and its that easy. You're not saving any 'babies' by banning abortion, just endangering the lives of thousands of women who are going to get an abortion regardless. I think a lot of these religious voters need to realize that what they're asking for is totally unrealistic. Especially, during this election. Mccain actually went on record a few years ago saying that he'd let his fifteen year old daughter have an abortion. Of course, he's changed his tune now but how genuine is he being?

Flair had concerned many of his longest-term friends over the last month because he's been unable to be reached, after he separated from wife of two years, Tiffany VanDemark, 36, a former fitness competitor who was prominent with him through all the Wrestlemania festivities. The split was believed to be in early June. Tiffany has since filed for divorce. This may have mentally put pressure on him to earn as much money as possible when the money was out there. wrestling observer newsletter Shame it didn't work out. Interestingly, him and Austin are now equal in number of divorces (3). Personally, I think he should have stuck with WWE, as he could have had a big on air role like GM at one point.

Former TNA Knockout champion Gail Kim will be heading back to World Wrestling Entertainment, according to several WWE sources. From what I am told, it was a pretty sizeable offer so I'd expect her to be pretty heavily in the Diva mix when she debuts. Kim's contract with TNA was coming up, so once it expires, she is free to start working for WWE. I was told the decision was completely a financial one, not anything stemming from unhappiness over how she was booked or presented by TNA, which made her the nucleus of their Knockouts division when it officially launched last year. TNA sources indicate that Kim left on extremely good terms and as one person told me, the "door is always open". I am told there was no heat over her departure. Kim's final TNA appearance will be on tonight's Impact broadcast, facing TNA rival Awesome Kong in a Street Fight. http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=32863&p=1

That's what I think. You say abortion is wrong and maybe 50% of people will agree. You say contraception is wrong and about 5% of people will agree with that. This kind of talk is just alienating the average person and driving them away. Maybe you can get to a point where's there's no more abortion, but there will never be a time when most people are okay with contraception being banned. And anyone that expects that is being shockingly unrealistic.

Agreed. How can a company expect "employees" to go out and risk their career and life without it? Of course, on the flip side...could you imagine the PREMIUMS?!! In fairness, I remember reading an interview back with Jerry Lynn in 2002, when he said WWE had paid for his surgery when he was with them. I don't know if that's a common occurance, but I think there are times they will pay. I doubt they'd insult the main eventers by getting them to pay the tab. I also think they cover the women's cosmetic surgery.

John winning father of the year 2007. He might have to give that award back now.

I beg to differ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001264/ Apart from The Grudge, her movie career since buffy has been a failure. She's had a few films go straight to dvd (suburban girl, harvard man) a few outright flops (the return, southland turns) and one of her recent films is currently struggling to find distributers. No wonder she's talking about going back to tv.

Rumour has it he's been offered $50,000 for his first shoot interview.

This is why pro lifers keep shooting themselves in the foot. If you want to argue against convenience abortions, and Euthanasia, I might not agree but I can sympathise. But once you start saying contraception is murder, abortion should always be banned (including for cases of rape) and Terri Schaivo was a perfectly healthy woman with everything to live for....well, that's when you lose me. The fanaticism of many in the right to life cause will be its undoing.

I don't think Kurt's famous enough to land a major tv network. Hulk Hogan is the most famous wrestler ever, but even he's only a D list celebrity in the mainstream. If I thought he was being the real Kurt, I might be interested. But, as has been mentioned, the whole things obviously scripted. Not to mention, Angle's been working everyone for so long, he probably doesn't even know who the real Kurt is anymore.

Uh. Look I'm all for treating animals well, and everything. But that's ridiculous. And pretty insulting to the guy's family. Have PETA ever just came out and said 'Yes, we care about animals way more than humans'?

I'm the opposite. I quite like those types of films. Although I do agree plot twists have gotten really forced lately. M.Night Shyamalan can take the blame for that. When you've got some monster or axe murderer going around killing random people, there's no depth there. You don't care about the people he's murdering or why he's doing it. I think for any horror film to work you have to be sympathetic to the characters, which is what asian horror does best: it doesn't treat characters like they're expendable. When they die, it makes a difference.

I think the J Horrors lately have been really phoned in (the eye, shutter, pulse) and aimed at the teenager crowd and that's why they're failing. However, the earlier ones were very good, the Grudge even ended up being a lot better and more coherant than the orinigal. Just going by the trailer, Mirrors seems more like The Ring or The Grudge and it does have an R rating.

Well, I liked the trailer

2008 movies to open with a PSA under $1,000
Atticus Chaos replied to bob_barron's topic in Television & Film
The American remake of My Sassy girl with Elisha Cuthbert and Jesse Bradford is going straight to dvd. By the looks of the trailer, its not surprising. Sarah Michelle Gellar is one famous actress who's had a lot of her films go to dvd (suburban girl, Harvard Man) or get extremley limited theatre releases (the return, southland tales). I don't know what's happened to her film movie career since Buffy. -
Keifer Sutherland's got a movie coming out called Mirrors which looks quite good. I could see that being a surprise hit.

Its only a SAG technicality that certain films have to come out in theatres, no matter how badly they're going do, isn't it? I remember hearing about Katherine Heigl being in one of the lowest grossing films ever, but contractually, they had to release it in cinemas, even if it was just for a week or so before it went straight to dvd. -
http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/64ad536a6d Paris Hilton responds to McCain's ad. Okay, I can't stand her but that is pretty damn funny. She has been redeemed (slightly) in my eyes.

Reid's gone? Shame. I thought he had potential, unlike his brother. I also heard Ric was having personal problems and his (third) marraige might be on the rocks.

Has anyone checked out Irv Muchnick's blog lately? My God, he's lost it.
-
prowrestling.net Why would he be on his way out? Edit: I just read on PWI that another WWE legend (I'm guessing Foley) is unhappy with his role on TV. There was more but I'm not a subscriber. Apparantly, he asked for his release last week.

That's true, I suppose. Speed 2 is regarded as a flop, but that did well enough overseas to make a profit.
