I think that's where being a graceful loser could help Hillary. She says she quits for the good of the party, says she's putting everything behind Obama, and everyone says 'Hillary's not the bitch we thought.' Then, in four or eight years, depending on how Barack does, she runs again, this time with a way more positive image. Obviously, Obama could run again. But I don't think he wants to put his kids through it.

It's a lot like Nicole Kidman or Russell Crowe being able to command $20 million a movie despite being in one flop after another. Most of Scarlett Johannson's recent films have done badly (the black dahlia, scoop,The island) but she's likely top of everyone casting list. Maybe everyone's just throwing so much money around, they don't actually think about whether the person is a good investment or not. You could have put some random unknown actress in The Eye and it probably would have done the same business. And they would have saved on the $6 or $7 million they presumably gave Alba. I'm not surprised movie costs are spiralling out of control. They keep giving huge paychecks to actors that can't justify it from a box office standpoint.

Obviously, the Clinton's are trying to get them counted, but even if they did, that would go back to what I was saying about her stealing the election since no one actually campaigned there. As for the Super delegates, even Nancy Pelosi has told them to follow the popular vote. I think most probably will.
-
That's actually a lot more than I thought she'd have to get. Short of Obama being revealed to be a cross dresser, there's no way she could ever get that much of a victory.
-
I have to laugh at Hillary's 'Obama isn't prepared for a negative republican attack' explantion as to why Obama isn't fit to run. Hillary, after what he's been through with you and your campaigns ridiculous accusations (OMG! Plagarism!) if he wasn't prepared before, he is now.

SWERVE~! Umm, wouldn't it be Obama and Bloomberg destroying the party if she wins? I mean yeah, if she gets slammed in the delegates race and wins by Super Delgates, ok, different story. But I'm not exactly sure how Hilary would be the party destroyer by winning the nomination. I mean, why the heck would she give up when she still can win? It's not like she is pulling a Huckabee and just staying in the race for the hell of it all. If Hillary does appear to 'steal' the nomination, (arguably at this point that's the only way she can win but we'll wait till Texas and Ohio), then she'll have alienated most of the young voters as well African Americans and the rest of Obama's fanbase, which the Dems need to win the election. I'm willing to bet even her own supporters will be fairly disgusted with her. She won't be able to win the presidency from McCain anyway because everyone will be so resentful of her. As for Hillary still having a legitimate chance of winning, she's lost ten contests in row and by huge margins. If this was the other way around and it was Obama, he'd be finished. But Hillary still has a shot? She neds to win in Ohio and Texas by a LOT. Her Ohio lead has slipped to single digits and her and Obama are neck and neck in Texas. I'm not mad that she's staying in it till then. But I'm worried that she won't 'do the right thing' as they say, and drop out afterwards if she doesn't get the huge numbers she's counting on. Hillary never was a graceful loser.

People's standards have lowered in what they expect in a president though. Flop or not, provided he doesn't fuck up as much as Bush, Obama's probably guaranteed a second term. I'd say the same for McCain if he wins, but he might not even be going for a second term on a account of his age (he'd be 76 by then). I'm still lukewarm on Hillary, and it is mainly because of Bill. I think it was Romney who said 'is anyone else worred about Bill Clinton roaming the white house with nothing to do?' She'll be busy, he'll be lonely and then we'll have one scandal after another, and-hooray!- four more years of Hillary as the victim and betrayed wife and us hearing more about the clinton's personal life than what she's actually doing in office (it'll be 1998 all over again). I don't usually buy into all that family values crap, but you are better off with someone in charge who seems to have a somewhat stable family life. It's the only thing Bush has going for him nowadays.

Mysterio to have surgery, out 4-6 months
Atticus Chaos replied to QuestionMan's topic in The WWE Folder
I think Vince will lose a lot of faith in him. You simply can't give a major push to a guy who's on the shelf so often. -
The eye was a bit of a flop. She might seen as a big A list star, but Alba really can't open a movie unless it has a franchise or bigger stars behind it (sin city, FF). Or, it's possible the remake backlash is in full force. I don't see shutter or funny games doing that well either.

I've never been that excited over the prospect of Flair retiring, simply because I don't believe he will. Don't get me wrong, he might maintain a low profile for a while and it won't be like Foley where he comes back 2 weeks later, but I can't seem him walking away entirely. He's still signed for a few years anyway. I think this is it for him as a full time wrestler, but he's probably going to be like Foley or Hogan and brought back every other month or so as a 'special attraction' to the point he's wrestling midgets or coach on raw and no one gives a crap anymore.

Clinton's trying to paint Barack has some sinister, Manson like figure now. They're pushing that his campaign has a 'cultish' feel about it. To be fair, there's things he's said, that coming from any other candidate would sound really arrogant and presumptious, but because he says them, it's okay. I remember Oprah's saying 'he is the the one'. Um, what? Is he Neo? 'The cult of Obama' is ridiculous, but I think he does have unearthly quality about him that is a little unnerving.
-
I'm not excited all about Taker/Edge. I'm sure the match will be a blast, but the build up will just be the usual 'cowardly heel running away from Taker' storyline that's nothing new. Even the thought of the inevitable angle where Taker crashes the Vickie/Edge wedding doesn't sound that fun.

How much weight has Randy dropped?

If the republicans really are counting on 'Bah, Gawd his middle name is Hussien and he's Muslim!' slur they seriously need new ideas because that 's already gotten old. And anyone willing to believe such a paper thin accusation likely wasn't going to vote for Obama anyway. Obama is way more of a threat to the repubicans than Hillary ever was, because they don't know how to deal with him. Like everyone, they thought Hillary was the inevitable candidate and planned accordingly (I've even heard they have a few of Bill's bimbos kept aside to tote out at election time). They could throw all the mud they wanted to at Hillary, and probably would have. Obama's different, and a lot of why I think they're weary of him has to do with his race. I don't think every higher figure in the Republican party is racist by any means, but many of them do have limited experience in dealing with African Americans, due to the low numbers in their own party and other factors, and I'm willing to bet they're seriously worried about saying the wrong thing in regards to him. A lot of them are totally lost on multi cultural AMerica. Besides, considering the unabashed sexist terms Hillary has been discussed in (somebody, asked McCain 'how do we beat this bitch?' and he was actually dumb enough to give it a straight answer) part of me does wonder how long it'll be before somebody makes a similar verbal gaff with Obama and does McCain a lot of damage.

Well, yeah I got that. As for the gun/pencil thing...I don't think it's as ridiculous as it sounds, but obviously 9 times out of 10 it wouldn't work. In the example I mentioned the guy tried to ram it into the boy's side, which sounds like it could possibly work, but he had a bullet proof vest on. I don't neccessarily think the teen was stupid for trying (he was 6,3, over 200 pounds and figured he could overpower the guy) and he was hailed as a hero because he managed to give the other students a chance to escape while he fought with the gunman. In a situation like that, is it better to do something than nothing? I wouldn't encourage anyone to be a hero in that situtation, but I wouldn't say someone's an idiot for trying.
-
I know one guy at a Minnisota school attacked a spree shooter with a pencil, and ended up getting shot in the face for his troubles. Unless you're Jason Bourne using everyday objects as weapons is rarely going to work against an armed man.
-
It's better than nothing. I'm not an expert on weapons by any means, but if you've got a classroom full of people with tasers, I have to think they've got more of a chance of taking the guy down than a classroom full of people that don't. And if we accept that this is going to keep happening and happening, and it is, then we have to give people permission to defend themselves in some sort of way.
-
I agree it's not ideal, but, as long as it's not knives or firearms, I think it's a viable option. Also, part of the reason these sprees happen is because these men are so sure they'll escape the consequences (suicide). But anyone who thinks about going on a shooting spree might think twice if he thinks he could end up stopped, taserd and facing a life sentence for murder/attempted murder.
-
What about Tasers? It's not leaving people defenceless if something like this happens but it's not as bad as everyone having guns either.

Drudge just picked up the latest ARG poll for Texas Clinton 32% Obama 38% http://americanresearchgroup.com/ That debate ad backfired her big time, I think.
-
The story itself won't even be that big. It'll dominate the headlines for a few days then be quietly forgotten about. As has been said, this happens so often now it's not even a major story anymore unless it is a Virgina tech like massive body count .And the guy that did it? The little information that is leaking out is basically telling us what we could have already guessed: loner, came off his anti depressants, was giving off warning signs...etc. He's not destined to become a cult figure or some sort of icon. You could say 'Steve Kazmierczak' to the average guy on the street and they wouldn't have a clue who your talking about.
-
His name was Steven Kazmierczak, he was an undergraduate there. As for the whole 'turning these men into celebrities'. That happened with Cho, but only because of how massive the scale of the attack was. But since then? I can't remember the Omaha killers name (skinny, white kid with glasses is my only memory) and that passed quickly enough. Same with this guy. The press might spend a day ot two figuring out his motives and then they'll move on because there are things more interesting than a depressed guy with a grudge. I have a hard time naming all the perpetrators of the other shootings that have happened this and any other year as well. I agree not naming the men might be a step in the right direction, but the idea that the media are turning these guys into Manson like cult figures isn't entirely true either. Of course, there's interest in the men, we can look at possible warning signs and possibly use it identifiy future shooters, but I don't think they're actions are hugely glamourised either. The thing is, since these sprees are no longer special and have become the norm, the killers aren't treated an anything special either.

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released
Atticus Chaos replied to Human Fly's topic in The WWE Folder
some new details http://www.fayettedailynews.com/article.php?id_news=669 I find the most interesting thing is the police speculation that Benoit was in fact intending to go to the ppv, after he killed Nancy and Daniel but then changed his mind. That is almost beyond belief. -
WWE General Discussion - February 2008
Atticus Chaos replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
I think Rey will have to retire soon. His legs are in bad enough shape as it is, and this won't help matters.
