It seems with Jericho everyone is full of excuses for why his title reign flopped. It was Stephanie and HHH, Austin didn't want to sell for him...etc. People want to absolve him of all responsibilty. Angle had to put up with some crappy booking during his first title reign too. He never ever got a clean win, and was even playing second fiddle to Trish Stratus for a while. However, he rose above it, rarely put on a bad performace and went onto to have greater success. If Jericho had been out there putting on great matches night after night, people would have said 'yeah, the booking sucks, but he's still a great champion.' But they weren't.
-
It wasn't great, but calling it bad is a huge stretch. And you don't think the booking, with all the rule changes and everything in mid-match, had anything to do with that? And Orton can be? Did you see that horrible match with Cena at Unforgiven? - The fact that Jericho couldn't have a good match with Austin (who, despite his injury problems, was still a hell of a wrestler) pretty much summed it up for me. Rock, HHH, or Angle would have went out there and tore the house down. Jericho, for whatever reason, couldn't. They're on a different level. -It wouldn't have been great because of the booking, but it shouldn't have been as utterly abysmal as it was. - You just justified the jericho/regal match by pointing at the booking but don't think having 8 minutes and ending in a DQ had anything to do with that being bad? I wouldn't even call it a bad match because it wasn't even booked as a match, it was Cena throwing lame punches for all of 8 minutes.
-
And what about the bad match he had with Austin at NWO? Or that dreadful match he had with Regal a few years ago (duchess of queensberry or something)? I remember him botching moves like crazy in a match with rhyno during the invasion. He had two great matches the entire time he was WWE champion (both with the rock at Vengeance and RR) They didn't have any confidence in him as champion because he didn't give them a reason to. Again, I'm not saying Jericho can't be great sometimes, but he can't be great consistently.
-
Are you serious right now? Chris Jericho has never been a slouch in the ring. You know, cleaning up Stephanie's dog shit wasn't the only reason his title reign flopped. His match with Austin at NWO wasn't very good, and his wrestlemania match with HHH had people leaving before it was even over. I'd also urge you to watch his dismal performance at survivor series 2001. In my opinion, Jericho will never be held in the same high regards at HBK, Guerrero, Benoit. He's a good, occasionally great, occasionlly bad wrestler. Orton has probably been one, if not the, best in ring performers in WWE this year. Wrestling wise, he's delivered on every ppv this year, and had awesome matches with RVD, Cena, Hardy, Edge and HBK. His selling is some of the best I've ever seen. As for carrying people: he dragged Hogan with a fucked leg to a good match, got a good match out of Carlito, and his bouts with Cody were decent enough. I don't know if he could carry someone completely talentless (Khali) but I do think in the Y2J/Orton feud he'll be doing most of the work wrestling wise.
-
Sunny did an interview where she talked about Carlito and how when she worked with him last year in Puerto Rico he told her he didn't even like wrestling that much and was only in it 'because his dad made him to do it'. So, I don't think Carlito is going to be anymore motivated in TNA than he was in WWE. I think Carlito and Masters are two guys TNA might actually stay away from. Masters because they are attempting to have some sort of drug policy (yeah, I know about Booker, Angle, Steiner...etc but those guys are stars, wheras Masters, like Test, was barely over in WWE so TNA have no reason to take the risk with him) and Carlito, because the last thing they need is to push a guy famous for being unmotivated and piss off everyone in the lockerroom.

I don't think it's that he feels threatened as much as he just doesn't like Jericho on a personal level.

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released
Atticus Chaos replied to Human Fly's topic in The WWE Folder
Yeah, sorry. After I posted that I thought it was a pretty random comment. -
Anybody remember HHH calling Jericho a bitter little man on raw after his title reign flopped? I thought that was pretty low.

I don't think Benoit is rotting in hell as we speak. If you believe in all that, I have to think God makes allowances for stuff like insanity. -
Assuming this is true, and HHH has long been rumoured to dislike him so it could be... It does make sense. Jericho has always been an inconsistent wrestler. He can deliver on one PPV and then the next will be terrible. His undisputed title reign proved this. The best time for him was after his world title reign when he was an upper mid carder, that was his level and he was happy with it. Granted, a lot of the main eventers in WWE are inconsistent or just plain bad (Khali, Batista, BDV, JBL when he still wrestled) but they usually have size on their side to carry favour with Vince, Chris doesn't. And I doubt two years away will have improved his in ring perforances. Randy Orton's been on fire lately and should be able to carry him, but regardless of how much everyone loves Jericho, he's always been one of these guys who relies more on promos and talking rather than actual wrestling.

Vince McMahon recently made the call to downplay the sexiness of the WWE divas again. He made a similar call back in the spring, but it lasted for about a week. Some believe that he's trying to book WWE in a more family friendly way since the kids audience has grown significantly while the adult audience has fallen since the Benoit murders. Internally, there is concern that the portrayal as women as sex objects could backfire with so many major media pieces coming. Vince said that they are looking to attract viewers from every demo and for the creative team not be short sighted in who potential viewers are. wrestling observer newsletter

There are rumours going around that Lashley is trying to get Kristal's job back. He's been unsucessful so far, but thinks when he get back he'll have more pull in the company.

Congress to Hold Steroid Hearings Next Session
Atticus Chaos replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
What? No, wrong. Curt Hennig, The Wall, and Crash Holly were all working for TNA every week when they ODed. They weren't working exclusively for TNA, though. I'm not even sure they had contracts. There's a big difference between being a regular performer under contract and being brought in once or twice for a cheap pop. -
Congress to Hold Steroid Hearings Next Session

Yeah, but TNA don't have any drug related deaths under their watch either. And since they're a relatively new organisation, you can't blame them for the guys that are dying young now (most of them worked in WWE for long periods of time, but not TNA). -
The main things the WGA have done wrong in my opinion -striking now, rather than in June with the actors which was orginally talked about in a bid to cause more damage. If they'd have waited till June it would have given people more time to prepare (and save). A lot of shows would have filled their production order as well. But, and I suppose this was there intention, by picking the worst possible time they've also ensured pilot season is screwed up and their won't be any new work for anyone till 2009. Yeah, they're maybe maximising their chances of getting what they want, but it's at the expense of everyone else. And it's been mentioned before, but going on strike- in a move guaranteed to cost thousands of jobs- right before christmas is such a dick move. -encouraging show runner's to ditch their shows even though there are enough scripts done for a few more weeks/months. That's still another few weeks pay for employees. On a related note I thought Steve Carell refusing to shoot the last remaining office episode was pretty crappy of him too. -giving actors (Eva Longoria) a tough time for showing up to work on the shows that still have remaining scripts to shoot. They're not doing anything illegal or wrong, so why yell at them for fufilling their contractual obligations? -bullying someone like Ellen for running her show, even though she is legally required to. Conveniently forgetting Johnny Carson and David Lettermen have done the exact same thing in the past. And, the thing is, from looking at a lot of the writers on strike and what they say regarding Ellen, they are actually quite understanding of the difficult position she is in. It's obviously they guy's at the top who are trying to make an example of her. -encouraging writers to tell on any fellow union members they think are scabbing. Jeez, if your going to send them on strike, at least trust them.
-
Didn't he have those problems with HHH? I heard he also had heat with HBK for the dumbest reason imaginable (apparently, back in his wcw days, Jericho dated the nitro girl that is now married to HBK) but I don't think it's like a major thing or anything.

Ellen DeGeneres is getting bullied for more than just that though. Concerning her treatment towards her writers, Ellen supposedly has a bad reputation. From Page Six: On SurgicalStrikes.com, one former, unidentified, writer for her 2001-02 sitcom, The Ellen Show, reports she treated her writers “like [bleep].” “We’d watch her in rehearsals, smiling and winning us over with her charm and comic timing. Then the director would yell cut, her face would fall, and she’d level a glare at the writers. ‘Why do you keep writing these unfunny jokes?’ she’d hiss. “Ellen frequently eviscerated the head writer and . . . boasted of the changes she’d make in season two, starting with his firing.” But, the blogger continues facetiously, the axed writer “was a hack anyway - all he did after leaving was create Arrested Development and win two Emmys for writing, another for Best Comedy.” If she has this type of reputation in Hollywood, Ellen crossing the picket line could also send the signal to the writers that she doesn't need them as much as they think she does. In her case, I think the anger from the WGA is compounded by her attitude as well. Page six? That's reliable. Around the same time that story came out another writer who'd worked with her had the opposite opinion and said she was fine to work with. I'm pretty distrustful of bloggers, anyway. I doubt Ellen is staying on the show solely for the cash. I doubt she needs it at this point , and can likely afford to stay at home for a few months. I think she probably is reluctant to put 135 people out of a job just before christmas, and is willing to ensure that even at the expense of being called derogatory names. Surely if she was as selfish as people say, she would have looked at all the criticism she was getting, and closed down the show for the sake of her image? And seriously, this is one daytime talk show. What difference does it make to the WGA? It won't prolong the strike, it's too minor a show. But it makes a difference to those 135 people. And bear in mind the WGA aren't exactly bothered abut lost jobs or anything...a quote from David Young one of big names in WGA and the driving force behind the strike Yeah, dude. Pat yourself on the back for ruining lives. Maybe it is a neccessary evil but there's no need to gloat about it. I sympathise with the WGA cause but the bullish way they're acting is turning me against them.

They apparently gave Jericho a big money contract. That almost ensures he won't get jobbed out, since they usually feel like they have to justify a contract like that with a big push (Henry, Big Show)

I'm sorry, but Whaaa whaa whaaa. You wouldn't have the job in the first place if not for the writers who want to be paid for their work. The writers wouldn't have a show to work if it wasn't for the camera crew and the rest of the production people. I don't like the way the WGA are bullying Ellen Degeneres. She'd be in serious legal trouble if she dropped her show (she's in a way different position than Leno or Lettermen) and wants to ensure 135 crew people keep their jobs. But, no, let's crucify her for feeling a loyalty to her crew other people lack. Arguably,Jay Leno owes the rest of his crew as much as he owes the writers. No, they would hire other production people. that is how the world works. people that can do things others cannot will be paid more and are more important than the interchangeable parts. Not everyone could write the office and it be something people would want to watch. Alot more people could man a camera. If writers don't do their job well, then the show fails. If a cameraman doesn't do his job well, the scene looks funny or off center. But you know what? the show will go the fuck on and people wouldn't complain that much. I know certain production jobs come with a union, which would make bringing in non union people to do that job difficult or impossible. So, if you're unable to bring in a replacement you can't do the show.

So much for JBL's tough guy reputation... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeZhM7nzLU8

JBL's got a nerve, he used to bury Masters all the time on commentary and he was a heel so it made no sense. Also, him critizing other people for poor in ring performances is laughable.

I wondered if Jericho has gained the weight they wanted him to. That magazine cover looks pretty airbrushed to me.

Only if by 'old school', you mean the likes of Sunny and Sable. Well, old school might not have been the right word. But it's nice to see some older women in their thirties with some personality, rather than the vacant, twenty year old bimbos that wrestling is full of now. Even when Karen is offering herself on a plate to Nash or Hall she still manages to retain some classyness. Which is more than can be said for other women doing the same act. Heck, Kelly couldn't even get her bra off.
