    Quantum of Solace

I actually thought the theme song sounded great in the theatre (saw it last night), but when I went back and listened to it on YouTube, it didn't sound too good.

So Kentucky lost at home yesterday to VMI...yikes.

    NFL Week 11

The Lions were actually deadset on getting Mayo in the draft but of course the Pats took him 5 slots before that. Would've been one of the rare times that Millen did something right but instead he ended up reaching for Jordon Dizon in the 2nd round (who's been banged up and mostly playing special teams so far). Oh well.

The Things That Anger You Thread.

Pretty much, yeah. I did alright on the verbal section, but the rest just did not go well at all. And don't even get my started on the sheer retarded awfulness of the English Lit subject test. Ughh. AdiĆ³s, dreams of going to Berkeley How was it (in terms of how the test was comprised)? I'm gonna have to take that sometime in the next few months.

    NFL Week 11

0-16 update: Some people actually thought Detroit could catch a reeling Jacksonville team (coming off a loss to previously winless Cincy) at home, but once they got stomped on, everyone jumped off the ship and now 0-16 looks that much more likely. Remaining games: @ Carolina-Nope. Big day for Williams and/or Stewart here. Tampa-Lions did beat them at home last year but it took a lot of smoke and mirrors to do it. Tampa won't let them off the hook this time around. Tennessee-HELL NO (although it would be a hell of a story if they pulled it off). Minnesota-Probably the best chance for a win but A.P.'s due to have a monster game against Detroit (by Lions' standards, they've held him in check somewhat allowing 66, 116, and 111 in the previous 3 matchups) @ Indy-Peyton could put up 500 yards in this one. N.O.-Same goes for Brees. @ G.B.-Favre's gone but it doesn't matter. Lions never win at Lambeau, especially during December plus the Packers will most likely have something to play for.

But you don't think that Auburn and Utah earned the right to play it out on the field instead of just hearing "well, USC would've crushed you anyways" all offseason? I just think it's absurd that a team in any sport at any level can lose a grand total of ONE game (or even zero in some cases) during the regular season and have no shot at the championship. Until it benefits Michigan, right? The truth is, yes it sucks that Auburn and Utah wasn't given a fair shot at the BCS title, but seriously. Compare the bowl games. USC outclassed everyone. They deserved that title. Now 2003 would have been a better example, as USC and LSU won their bowl games in similar fashions against similarly ranked teams, therefore essentially setting up the natural title game of USC/LSU that never came under this current system. This isn't about Michigan or USC. USC deserved the title and I'm sure they would've handled any other team that year easily but we all just assume that it would've played out that way (because you know, upsets never happen). The fact of the matter is that Auburn won every game on their schedule and got shut out of the MNC because they didn't win every game by 50 or accumulate enough "style points". I'm sure that Jason Campbell, Cadillac Williams, and Ronnie Brown would've wanted their shot against USC, even if it meant getting blown out in the end. Of course, if there was a playoff system in place at that time, it would all be a moot point. You could've ended up with USC/OU as a seminfinal and Auburn/Utah as another. Imagine if Roger Goodell just cancelled the NFL playoffs last year and ordered the Super Bowl to be Dallas (or even Green Bay) vs. New England, since those teams looked all-world during the regular season. I just want to see D-I football become more objective than subjective.

I'm sure it's been thrown out before, but I heard Brent Musburger talk about a possible playoff format last week. It would be an 8-team playoff made up of the 6 BCS conference champions, the best non-BCS team and the best at-large team. This year, it could look something like this: Quarterfinals: Fiesta Bowl: Texas Tech (Big 12) vs. Utah (Mid-major) Rose Bowl: USC (Pac-10) vs. Penn St. (Big Ten) Orange Bowl: North Carolina (ACC) vs. Texas (At-large) Sugar Bowl: Alabama (SEC) vs. Pittsburgh (Big East) Semifinals: Fiesta winner vs. Rose winner @ neutral site Orange winner vs. Sugar winner @ neutral site Finals: Semifinal winners @ correction-Dolphin Stadium (which is the site for this year's title game) The quarterfinal games could be duds for the most part, but you would get some real intriguing games the rest of the way (such as a possible Texas Tech vs. USC matchup) Sure, that does leave a Florida or a Oklahoma out, but you can't please everyone. It wouldn't be any worse than other sports, where weaker teams make the playoffs all the time. This format would still allow the regular season to mean something. You also get to keep those bowl traditions (sort of). Of course you could just as easily have the 8 highest ranked teams play it out, but I think this way (or something similar) might be the closest to satisfying most everyone. It's not completely fair, but I believe it would be better than the current system.

    NFL WEEK 10

I just figured that the 49ers were intentionally trying to run down the clock so that they would score with little to no time left, but obviously that didn't work. Regarding Michael Robinson, I believe he did have a stint as the goal-line back last year, but still, a pretty bad call in that spot.

Well hopefully Michigan can at least beat Michigan Tech for Christ's sake. Maybe UM can make a NCAA tournament run, but based on recent history, I'd probably be happy with 14-15 wins this season.

    NFL WEEK 10

A decent amount of people thought Detroit had a chance to beat Jacksonville today but I wasn't buying that for one second and sadly, I was right. At least Drew Stanton played though (and hey, he even got to throw a TD).

I have to pray that this TT/OSU game stays under 75 points (which isn't looking very likely right now) because there were no differing picks in my matchup...gay.

So Michigan finally plays like a real football team AFTER they clinched a losing season...*sigh* Good win though, and they get to keep the Little Brown Jug. Sheridan actually looked like a guy that can play QB at Michigan for once.

Yeah as much as McCain can be a crochety old man at times...still gotta respect him. I'm just so glad this happened (though it hasn't truly sunk in for me yet).

    Campaign 2008

I went to the polls early and waited for nearly 3 hours. Not that suprising though since I'm sure urban voters throughout Michigan were beyond eager to vote for Obama. By the way, we use optical scan voting machines where I'm at (some of which started screwing up today).

    This week in the NBA

I'm iffy about this trade as well...seems like a lateral move at best. I would've rather seen the Pistons do that T-Mac deal that was rumored during the summer.

Hell of a game. Crabtree is a MAN (ironically I might add, since Mike Gundy is coming into Lubbock next week). And not that it matters now, but why didn't Leach go for 2 at the end?
