ALDS: Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

Well after strking out 170+ times this year, Grandy has come to play this series. JV was straight up nasty and Zoom was Zoom. I kinda wish Bonderman was going in Game 3 but maybe Kenny can take advantage of that huge outfield at Comerica and pull out a good performance. I think this win definitely shows that they belong in the playoffs.

    New Weird Al Song

I just heard Weird Al's parody of Chamillionaire's "Ridin" last week and thought it was funny as hell. It's even funnier watching the music video to it. Now I'm not familiar with too much of Weird Al's work(I have heard "Amish Paradise" and a few others). I was just wondering what you guys think his greatest work is if "White & Nerdy" isn't and what you thought of the song in general.

ALDS: Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

I'm just glad that Detroit didn't fold like a tent and lose 15-1 or something like that. They fought hard the whole game. Even though the Tigers had there 4th starter out there, they managed to keep the damage at somewhat of a minimum considering the Yankee lineup. It was nice to see Detroit string together some hits for once. They just didn't execute when it mattered the most. The only way the Tigers can win this series is if they win this next game. Fortunately, they have better pitchers than Robertson starting now and the strong bullpen arms didn't have to pitch in Game 1. I'm not going to bet on Detroit winning this series but New York is definitely going to have to work to advance.

ALDS: Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

Detroit has the arms(as evidenced by their being #1 in team E.R.A.) to beat the Yankees but the D needs to be more consistent and the hitters have to have more patience at the plate especially against somebody like Wang.

Man fuck the Royals. They've gotten the shit kicked outta them all year and now they decide to care? Bullshit!!! Anyways, Detroit screwed up big time. I'll stop short of calling it a choke b/c they won 95 games and they're still in the playoffs. On the plus side heading into the playoffs, the bats seem to be going again. Pitching is what gets it done in the playoffs and the Tigers have the best at least by the numbers. Bonderman and Verlander are gonna have to grow up fast though and the hitters have to be more patient facing a disciplined and veteran Yankee squad. I'm not counting Detroit out.

I was at The Big House last year when Minny took the jug so it's good to see Michigan get it back. Mario Manningham is no joke.

Just to be clear, I don't want to see Detroit face the Yankees b/c they haven't shown that they can beat them on a consistent basis. The homefield is not that big a deal to me, it's more the team they're facing. If the Twins beat the Yanks in the first round, the Tigers would avoid New York altogether.

Hey I'm excited to see Detroit in the playoffs for the first time since I was maybe a week old. I just don't want to see them pull a Red Wings or Pistons and do shitty in the postseason. The way I see it is that the Tigers need to win the division to avoid the Yankees in the first round, especially since N.Y. will probably have homefield. If Detroit beats the A's and The Twins beat the Yankees, the Tigers have a better shot at making the W.S. If they make it to that point they have a chance against any N.L. team.

I'm not worried about Minny taking the Central from Detroit. The Tigers play K.C. and the Twins play the White Sox. I will take that situation any day of the week. People say Chicago's packed it in already...maybe, but they're still probably the most talented team to not make the playoffs and I'm sure Ozzie would love to exact one last measure of revenge on the Twins. Plus Garcia's going tonight against Boof...enough said.

    Breaking News: TO attempts suicide

I am not a T.O. fan. In fact, he may be my most hated player. That being said, I can't possibly fix myself to believe that this was a publicity stunt. I think I remeber learning that most people who talk about committing suicide don't actually go through with it. This is a serious matter. My best guess is that with all the negative talk he's heard through the years, it's worn on him and gotten him to this point. Based on interviews and documentaries, T.O. seems to be a guy who takes everything personal. Besides that, he's had his fair share of personal problems off the field throughout his life. A combination of those factors probably led to these events. I wouldn't be surprised if T.O. has problems with depression or something similar.

I need a fucking receiver. My best one at this point is a damn rookie. I picked up Gabriel maybe he can emerge as the Pats' go-to-guy.

Well, Stanton played like a Heisman contender for three quarters. As a Michigan fan, I usually don't have a clue who to root for whenever ND plays MSU. In this case, I was going for the Spartans due to the Irish hype machine. I left to go to a party and when I checked out the T.V. there, ND was ahead. I was so pissed it almost ruined my night. Almost. On another note, did anyone else check out the Florida/Kentucky game? Tim Tebow looked good out there the few plays he was in at QB, especially running the ball. He really got the crowd into it. He was on one of the H.S. teams that played on ESPN last year. The Gators shouldn't miss a beat when Leak graduates.

This Week in College Football 9/21 - 9/23

If Booty wins the Heisman, I will leave this board forever. Sure he's a contender, but he's not even the best candidate on his own team(Jarrett). He's not going to put up the numbers that Leinart/Palmer did. Slaton and Wolfe are well on their way to putting up ridiculous numbers that can't be ignored. Peterson is pretty much a lock for the finals. Ohio State and Michigan have 2 contenders each(Smith and Ginn, Henne and Hart), so there's a fair chance each school will have one finalist. Stanton can stake his claim with a great performance against ND. Leak has a shot depending on how the Gators fare the rest of the way. If Calvin Johnson keeps playing the way he has, you could throw his name into the hat. Booty could be a finalist but I cannot see him winning even if USC goes undefeated. Whenever I see the experts' top 5 lists Booty is nowhere to be found. I see Jarrett before I see him.

They weren't really winning with Infante; they were winning with Polanco. Infante's a marginal upgrade over Neifi. And Matt Stairs has been with the Tigers for five games, played in four and has a whopping 12 official at-bats. Stop reaching for straws; the Tigers were faltering long before last Friday. If you call Infante's .284 BA and .743 OPS vs. Perez's .193 BA and .507 OPS a marginal upgrade, I don't know what to tell you. Trust me, Tigers fans would have Omar in the lineup over Neifi in a heartbeat. After last night's win, it looks like Detroit's safely in the playoffs. Whether they win the division remains to be seen. The last thing I want to do is defend Neifi, but you're out of your mind if you think Neifi being there has caused the collapse of the Detroit Tigers. Trust me, these guys are still faltering with Omar god damn Infante at second. FWIW, the Tigers are still playing under .500 in the games Infante's appeared in since the Neifi deal. As annoying as it is to see Neifi in the lineup, like with the Cubs, the problems are deeper than just his presence. Oh I know it's not all his fault. It's just whenever I see Omar in the lineup, he seems to make a contribution, usually by getting a big hit. Meanwhile, Neifi just hits weak grounders to second. Hopefully Polanco will come back and it will all be a moot point. The real problem is the approach that most of the Tiger hitters have at the plate coupled with their piss-poor defense. But like most figured, their pitching is too good to let them fall out of the playoffs and it looks like they're going to make it.

    NFL Week 3

I think Volek's problem was along the lines of Tennessee having salary cap issues the last few years, so the remaining talent pool is pretty thin. It's hard to look good at QB if your protection sucks and you only have one good receiver. Bennett is the one good WR I presume. What happened to Givens and Troupe?

I think the WC is great just because, especially this year, over half the teams had a chance as late as August. That creates more meaningful games. I also like interleague play. I don't see why so many ppl gripe about it. I mean there's 162 games in a season. The other 3 major sports have it so why can't baseball?
