    Raw Thread - October 16th, 2006

Sounds like this was a good Raw. Too bad I missed most of it b/c for once I stayed with the Monday Night game. Usually I switch back & forth.

Think Edge is gonna demand the ball now? Boldin and Leinart didn't deserve this.

    NFL Week 6

I'm not really trying to defend Vick. Everyone knows that he needs to improve his passing skills. I'm just pointing out that he's accomplished some nice things in his career and I think the Falcons can win with him. They have a nice D and a great running game. Vick just needs to limit his mistakes. I think most people realize that Vick isn't among the elite QB's in the league, just one of the elite athletes. Fine, yes, he has accomplished some things. But I don't think he'll ever SEE a Super Bowl unless he changes. When the running game fails, or you're out-rushed, you need a guy to stand in the pocket and take control. I'm not sure Vick can ever do that. Judging by the new Sporting News that I got, he may not change. This would make my day if Arizona wins.

    NFL Week 6

People sure do seem to forget that Vick led the Falcons to the NFC title game a couple years ago and, in the process, beat Favre at Lambeau when the place still had its mystique. It would help if the recievers would quit dropping balls and make some plays. I still maintain that Vick can be successful in the NFL. He's not gonna become a running back so Atlanta's gotta roll with it. Maybe J.M.J. can come up with some schemes that involve Shaub at QB and Vick at RB or WR. Throw Dunn/Norwood into the mix and maybe they've got something. Just continue to keep the opponents guessing. On another note, congrats to Rod Marinelli for his 1st win as Lions H.C.

Dammit that means Skip Bayless was right about the 2 QB system costing the Gators this game.

Well with Florida's loss and USC's performance against Arizona St(win or lose), this day could vault Michigan to #2 which hopefully sets up a #1 vs. #2 showdown between the Buckeyes and the Wolverines.

This Week in College Football 10/12 - 10/15

I think Adrian Peterson will be a great back in the NFL for the first few years but I forsee him breaking down fairly early in his career b/c of his past injury history, his punishing running style and the fact that he's tall for a typical RB, making him a easier target.

Cory Lidle dies in plane crash

NEW YORK -- A small plane with New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle aboard crashed into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan's Upper East Side, killing at least four people and raining flaming debris on sidewalks, authorities said. Federal Aviation Administration records showed the single-engine plane was registered to Lidle, and FBI reports show that Lidle's passport was found at the scene. The FBI believed Lidle was the only person aboard the plane and the other three deaths occurred inside the building. The twin-engine plane came through a hazy, cloudy sky and hit the 20th floor of The Belaire -- a red-brick tower overlooking the East River, about five miles from the World Trade Center -- with a loud bang, touching off a raging fire that cast a pillar of black smoke over the city and sent flames shooting from four windows on two adjoining floors. Large crowds gathered in the street in the largely wealthy New York neighborhood, with many people in tears and some trying to reach loved ones by cell phone. "I was worried the building would explode, so I got out of there fast," said Lori Claymont, who fled an adjoining building in sweatpants. Young May Cha, a 23-year-old Cornell University medical student, said she was walking back from the grocery store down 72nd Street when she saw an object out of the corner of her eye. "I just saw something come across the sky and crash into that building," she said. Cha said there appeared to be smoke coming from behind the aircraft, and "it looked like it was flying erraticaly for the short time that I saw it." "The explosion was very small. I was not threatened for my life," she added. Richard Drutman, a professional photographer who lives on the 11th floor, said he was talking on the telephone when he felt the building shake. "There was a huge explosion. I looked out my window and saw what appeared to be pieces of wings, on fire, falling from the sky," Drutman said. He and his girlfriend quickly evacuated the building. The plane left New Jersey's Teterboro Airport, just across the Hudson River from the city, at 2:30 p.m., about 15 minutes before the crash, according to officials at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport. But they said they did not where the aircraft was headed. FAA spokeswoman Diane Spitaliere said the plane was apparently not in contact with air traffic controllers; pilots flying small planes by sight are not required to be in contact. The National Transportation Safety Board sent a team to investigate. Former NTSB director Jim Hall said in a telephone interview he doesn't understand how a plane could get so close to a New York City building after Sept. 11. "We're under a high alert and you would assume that if something like this happened, people would have known about it before it occurred, not after," Hall said. Mystery writer Carol Higgins Clark, daughter of author Mary Higgins Clark, lives on the 38th floor and was coming home in a cab when she saw the smoke. "Thank goodness I wasn't at my apartment writing at the time," she said. She described the building's residents as a mix of actors, doctors, lawyers, writers and people with second homes. Sgt. Claudette Hutchinson, a spokeswoman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command in Colorado Springs, Colo., said fighter jets "are airborne over numerous U.S. cities and while every indication is that this is an accident, we see this as a prudent measure at this time." However, all three New York City-area airports continued to operate normally, FAA spokesman Jim Peters said. In Washington, White House spokesman Tony Fratto said neither President Bush nor Vice President Dick Cheney was moved to secure locations. "All indications are that is an unfortunate accident," said Yolanda Clark, a spokeswoman for Homeland Security's Transportation Security Administration. She said there was "no specific or credible intelligence suggesting an imminent threat to the homeland, at this time." The crash struck fear in a city devastated by the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Sirens echoed across the neighborhood as about 170 firefighters rushed in along with emergency workers and ambulances. Broken glass and debris were strewn around the neighborhood. "There's a sense of helplessness," said Sandy Teller, watching from his apartment a block away. "Cots and gurneys, waiting. It's a mess." The tower was built in the late 1980s and is situated near Sotheby's auction house. It has 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million. Several lower floors are occupied by doctors and administrative offices, as well as guest facilities for family members of patients at the Hospital for Special Surgery, hospital spokeswoman Phyllis Fisher said. No patients were in the high-rise building and operations at the hospital a block away were not affected, Fisher said. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. Cory Lidle dies in plane crash

A couple thoughts: -Lidle seemed like a guy who played the right way and had the respect of everyone he played with. -I wish ppl would quit blaming others(such as "if the yankees won, he'd still be alive" and other b.s. statements) -Based on what we know about his personality, I think it's safe to say that he didn't commit suicide or all of a sudden become a terrorist. -He sure did get a lot of media attention(not to say he didn't deserve it). Kinda makes you wonder what the reaction would be if a Randy Johnson or a Jeter or an A-Rod would be. Ppl who aren't baseball fans probably have never heard the name Cory Lidle in their life before yesterday. -I will remember Lidle as an above-average pitcher who made a lasting impact during every stop of his career. -RIP.

In addition to Cold Pizza, Cena's on BET's 106th & Park right now. I'm sure he's got at least a couple more shows to promote his movie.

    NFL Fantasy Football

TSM Fantasy Football(Michigan Bulldogs):2-3(14 outta 20) I've done everything in my power to scrape together a competent lineup seeing as I've made the most moves in this league at this point and it still may not be enough. I should win this week but for the long haul I'm stuck with Frye and Harrington as my QB's. I have resorted to picking up guys like Peerless Price, Bryant Johnson, and Leon Washington. Unless I can get a trade, things are probably gonna continue to be shaky. The Year of Ahmad Carroll(Gang Green):3-2(6 outta 10) This is my buddy's league. I just shit the bed this past week for sitting Galloway. Still, I should be OK b/c I've got a slew of RB's and I have the Jags D. Ben Graham Fan League(The Big Green):2-3(5 outta 8) On paper I had a great team but guys like Palmer and Chad Johnson have been somewhat disappointing. I just picked up Berrian, Jennings, and Jones-Drew so that should help me out a lot. A few more notes: -All three teams are in Yahoo leagues -TE's have sucked this year for the most part -I have LT on all three of my teams

    WWE meets TNA

Yeah I recapped the segment in the ESPN sucks thread. I don't think Cena's the type to bash other organizations. I'm interested to see the reaction to the movie by non-wrestling fans and how it does at the box office.

ESPN sucks, so do thread closers

I just caught John Cena on Cold Pizza. He got the #3 play of the day for super-plexing Taker and FUing Booker. Jay talked to Cena about taking on Taker and about his movie "The Marine." Jay mentioned The Rock and how he misses the live crowd. Cena said if he wanted to act full time, he would still work two jobs, acting and wrestling. Jay showed a clip of A.J. Piercsynski(sp?) in TNA, Cena made his comments, and then A.J. walked in with his X-Division belt(Cena had his WWE title belt with him). They went over the tale of the tape between A.J. and Cena,a little trash talk, another movie plug, and that was pretty much it.
  22. God Cena, at least pull a little on the guy's head when you do the STFU. This is like when he used to do the FU by simply dropping his opponent on his back.
  23. Well which finish is it gonna be: Cena via DQ, Taker via DQ, or just a straight up no contest?

ALDS: Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

Well I finally get to post on this epic Tiger victory(I was out partying in Ann Arbor this weekend). My favorite baseball team taking down the most hated team for me in all of sports doesn't get any better. It would have been nice to be there but oh well. I give Detroit the slight edge over Oakland b/c I think there offense is getting that pop back it there bats again. Leyland will make sure that Detroit doesn't have a letdown next series(Oakland could have a letdown too due to finally winning a playoff series under Beane).

Man I want to be at Comerica so bad! Kenny was just WOW, that's all u can really say. Gotta like the Bonderman/Wright matchup. Guess I'll have to "settle" for going the UM beatdown of State at The Big House. On another note: I coulda swore that Jeter and A-Rod were best friends early in their careers.
