The OAO WCCW/ Von Erich thread

Kerry wrestled with a prosthetic but kept it hidden. The hooker was for Chris, I thought. Business started going bad before Kerry's wreck but that certainly didn't help things. Without looking it up, I think they broke away from the NWA, and then didn't run anymore cards sharing talent with Mid South/UWF (Watts). UWF was then getting hot around the same time, and I'm sure they ran cities like Houston. Ricky Vaughn was brought in from Northwest and billed as Lance Von Erich. Wasn't bad for his role. I remember a stadium show in Dallas where they must have had only 5,000 max, it was embarrassing to watch and I'm sure it must have been to be a part of it. I thought they were going to last when Kerry came back, brought the Freebirds back, had some good talent like Terry Taylor come in, but Kerry and Freebirds left and things collapsed. Again without looking it up, all that probably led to the eventual merger with Memphis. I think the Wild West promotion started at that time too in Texas, took several of their guys.
  2. Juvenile, yes, but that's the way it is. Those that don't want to be part of it should get out and get a 9-5 job. Everybody starting out knows it. Kid Kash bas been in wrestling at least a decade, I'm sure one of you can give the exact year. Those that don't follow it get hazed more than usual, made into locker room/road outcasts, or these days, fined or suspended. Anyone fortunate enough to make it to Stanford should fall in line with whatever's asked or expected, except for the obvious exceptions (Pat Patterson type stuff). Bullshit. People trying to make a living shouldn't have to put up with that kind of crap. It doesn't fly in the real world and it shouldn't fly in "Stanford" either. They'll be lucky if someone doesn't go full-on postal in the locker room one day. Amen. This is a publically traded company. And if it wants to be taken seriously, then the backstage has to grow up. I was talking more about the pecking order as far as respect goes, than any particular hazing incident or routine. Some of it I was putting in the Patterson category. Yeah, it's stupid, but again it's not going to stop anytime soon. I've never played football at the professional level but I would bet some of the stuff that goes on in the NFL makes the WWE hazing seem like little league. Also about the NFL, the picture of Jerry Porter in another thread should prove steroids aren't needed. It does take a good natural body to begin with, but most of the wrestlers should have that to begin with (and no, not all, so don't start listing exceptions). There are steroids in the NFL no doubt, but a lot of guys get busted for it too and after losing 1/4 or 1/2 of a yearly paycheck in the millions they clean up their acts.

    OAO WWE Wellness Policy Thread

You can get in good shape without steroids or anything else illegal. Maybe not with cartoon level muscles, but certainly much more than the average guy out there. And it might seem like it would go without saying, but wresters retiring or dying arent good for business.

    The Youtube Thread

This only reinforces that Magnum was the fucking MAN back then, and how tragic that his career was cut short. He could have gone down as one of the best if his career had gone to its natural conclusion. I liked how the announcers kept quiet for large portions of the match and let the action speak for itself. No reason for "a punch by Tully, a punch by Magnum, there's a kick, there's a punch" like it would be nowadays, plus talking about other matches and angles during it too.

I think the OMEGA lockerroom disagrees with you. Lita basically runs second to Missy Hyatt in wrestling's all-time whore department* *Assuming at least 10% of what was written about her in that Scummiest Wrestling stories thread was true One percent would be assuming a lot.

What Wrestlers got the most undeserved pushes?

How about Greg Gagne? Yeah I'll go with Greg He wasn't that bad in the tag team with Brunzell, actually it was a good, high flying team (they were the high flyers) for the early 80s, but his singles push was ridiculous and was one of the reasons the company collapsed. I've read more than once Hennig was turned heel before getting the belt so Gagne could eventually take it but promoters in different cities went nuts and the decision was changed.

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

He was in the AWA on and off, along with the cartoon stuff, until going back to the WWF and becoming the Iraq sympathizer. They invented a belt for him, the Americas title I believe, similar to the Intercontinental belt. His act got stale, they should have turned him heel, like the pre-Iron Sheik feud character and Mid-Atlantic heel, but put him in ridiculous stuff like training Greg Gagne and boring feuds with the likes of Colonel Debeers. I've read they were about to put the world belt on him but the WWF signed him to stop that, then the war broke out and they found themselves another heel. I don't know how accurate that is.

Probably in the minority here, but I no longer see a reason for blading. Even more so, if Vince is really serious about making it semi-"respectable".

    Exposing the Biz

The backstage lack of logic could be helped a lot, if the talent just acknowledged there was a camera back there every now and then: Cena: "I hope you're watching this Edge" after a skit, or Vince: "Get that camera out of here" after a DX stunt.

    OAO Raw Thread - July/24th/2006.

I predict that sooner than later we'll have an Edge/Lita/Nitro/Melina angle where we get video packages of them all in bed together. Called that July 8 (below), more I thought about it though the fans might cheer for it too much and turn them faces unintentionally. _I'd like to see them as a regular team, and not why I'd watch but it would be a chance to bring back "HLA" either implied or right there in front of everybody. To make it more out there, let the fans understand Edge and Nitro don't mind swapping their girfriends in storyline at least. Wouldn't mind seeing them wearing the tag belts, plus having the world title and intercontinental belts at the same time, with Lita and Melina both always at ringside cheating when needed, in singles or tag matches.
  12. Yes, Hasbeen. I lost my password and my email has changed since I submitted it to begin with.
  13. If you've really not watched in two years, you wouldn't know if you liked it now or not. This will just keep going in circles, so fine, keep posting, I don't care.
  14. What can a person who's not even watching add to the discussion, besides asking what's going on?
  15. Just saying bye, if he's not going to watch the program, he won't be making posts on the WWE board. You'd think that would be how it goes at least.

    Mark Henry injured at SNME

No, not at all. Did you have another point?

    Mark Henry injured at SNME

It's easy to be an idiot when you're anonymous. I think jealousy is part of the reason some want to take down a wrestler on here any time they can, whether it's Henry, Orton, HHH or whoever. I'd say nearly all of the ones doing the bashing and happy he's injured get exercise only when Mickie comes on the screen, or for some, CM Punk or Benoit.

    OAO Raw - 7/17

Yes, in the more "sophisticated" cities. I'm assuming you're being sarcastic. Otherwise, the thought of certain nonmetropolitan areas being considered more "sophisticated" than Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio just because they disagree with how someone feels about a wrestler is laughable. Talking about the fans. There's nothing wrong with cheering for the face and getting into the show, even if he's not considered cool by the "sophisticated" fans.

    Most nonsensical debuts

I liked his role as the muscle of the group but yes, as a mystery opponent, it was a letdown.

    OAO Raw - 7/17

Beth, is injured. This ruined their plans as they can't go back to Trish/Mickie now and WWE is too stupid to hire the many talented and good looking woman's wrestlers in America. Foley, will take the match after Flair threatens to rape Melina. You use too many commas (Beth, is injured...Foley, will take...). Good points though.

    Saturday Night's Main Event

Was that against Mr Perfect and the genius Poffo, if so I was there. Yes, yes it was. I will have to go back and look at the tape, I don't know how much you can tell, but I think a lot of people missed much of the Hogan and Warrior thing. I'm wanting to say they had words after the match, and a lot of people were already getting up to leave. It was a 4 hour show, easy, as they taped a lot of squashes for one of their syndicated shows. I remember seeing Tugboat in that indentity for the first time, at about the 3:30 mark, and the crowd began chanting Hogan as the Hulk had not been seen yet. Most had no idea who Tugboat was, and I felt bad because the crowd could have cared less by that point.
