I can't see them giving the ECW originals that big a part in the show. I just can't understand how somebody that's been in the business so long (Vince) could be so wrong in the ECW decisions.

"You gonna suck my dick or what?" "No!" "Then what the hell you in here for?" That was CLASSIC. Damn, lol..Who was that in the ring with him and was that a PPV or what? I think I heard her cursing back at him, just barely.

I've got an old tape from an NWA syndicated show, around 87, where you can clearly hear Flair calling one of the Road Warriors a mother fucker, lol. It was as the show was going off, one of those "we're out of time" type matches. I think it was Schiavone announces and Flair was in the background noise but it was still a surprise for that time, looking back.

The Sultan? It wasn't the Sultan. This was a racist act, they didn't come out and say a black man was getting flour thrown on him as a way of being mocked but it was clear. Sorry to jump ahead of everyone. I was going to wait until I answered one but Sultan was guessed. Clue #2, this person appeared on AWA, NWA, WWF and ECW television.

Here's one. 1-Threw flour all over the Rock's dad during a heel beatdown some time ago.

More submissions are needed. I think with the UFC influence that will continue. You don't need 20 year olds with no insurance, getting paid maybe $50 out there taking and giving neck finishers.

The Samoans, others like them, were really good old time tag champions. With a proper mouthpiece I could see someone like that getting a world belt but Umaga isn't over enough as they were. The tag belts used to be nearly as important as the world belt. And I would have loved Abdullah with the gold, lol.

Really good show, blowing away the competition right now. Hope more fans notice.

Why don't you put in a job application as their booker, jackass. I enjoyed the show and enjoyed what I saw tonight. I don't care it if does or doesn't follow any of your ideas, you can use them on fantasy booking or whatever it's called.

I've read and heard Austin, Rock, Hogan pulled in more than 10 million before taxes some years, all revenue.

I like MVP a lot more than I did at first. I forgot to tape the show tonight, no surprise. Anyone know how close Ray Gordy is to moving up, if close at all. And would a heel turn for the Undertaker showing his supernatural powers are all just special effects work, like he's been paying backstage technicians for years to intimidate and frighten opponents, etc. That would be the end to the gimmick for good, but he could have one more badass run after that too.

AWA, WWF and NWA all had something to do with the AWA folding. The WWF took Hogan, the Rockers, Hennig, Martel, Adonis (before he was made a joke) and even the likes of Boris Zukov-just because they could, but the 80s NWA took back the Road Warriors, plus took Paul (Heyman) E. Dangerously, Jimmy Garvin, Scott Hall, Zbysko (he later returned), Tom Zenk and some others. They also steamrolled Florida, Missouri, the UWF but that was called co-promotion work by the Apter mags, as Crockett was the hero fighting the evil McMahon empire, but that's another subject. I've turned it into a boring history lesson but there's no way a promotion running every afternoon on ESPN should have collapsed. Were the wrestlers offered more? Yes, but the point was more should have been done with them to begin with and maybe the money would have been there to keep at least some of them. They had talent that such as the guys that evolved into, or already went by, the Road Warriors, Mr Perfect, Vader, Razor Ramon, Rick Steiner, the others ones mentioned and many more, plus were closely associated with Memphis and its talent like Lawler, Rick Rude, Savage, Bundy, Sid Vicious, Bigelow, Scott Steiner, all within a four or five year period, but Bockwinkle (great in his day) and unprofessional, unpredicable Stan Hansen were champs during the years it went totally downhill. Even near the end they had recognizable names such as the Trooper (Patriot), Tully Blanchard and Nikita Koloff, but kept the belt on Zbysko and kept Slaughter a face when he was a huge heel a short time later in the WWF (the distateful Iraq angle). They had Ken Patera, a convicted felon and not a very nice person, and used him as a face because of his Olympic past. I picked up an old PWI magazine at random to help me remember some names and wouldn't you know who was the number contender, the secondary belt holder I'm guessing: Greg Gagne in 1989. That should sum it all up.

I remember way back when the Islanders turned heel, I think it was a way to bury Tom Zenk too as they tore him up, that's pretty hazy. Monsoon was commenting throughout the match how they'd been more aggressive than usual and Ventura was chuckling but not too loud. Finally at the end Bobby Heenan came in and raised their arms and Monsoon yelled at him-And you knew it all the time! His reaction is what I remember most, an exagerated Ha-Ha-Ha! back at Monsoon. I got that on tape somewhere and will edit it to make it more accurate later. Same as this one in the MidSouth when the Freebirds were ganged up on someone, 3-1, and Watts made it sound like he was sick to his stomach-Three on one, typical Freebird style..I find this reprehensible!

Similar to the other thread, shoots of any type you thought were angles, or at least not what they appeared to be whether part of any storyline or not. Very little turns out to be a shoot or unplanned, a lot of what I wasn't sure of at least until I thought about involved fans getting involved in matches, especially in the very old days. A lot of times you didn't know the plants from the lunatics. I do remember one fan getting a real chain in the forehead from the Sheik one crazy night. Back in the mid 80s before Lex Luger went to WCW from Florida, Bruiser Brody began shooting on Luger and the match wrapped up quickly. I thought for a while that was just to make Luger look bad to fans in the know, but have heard it too many times since then Brody was not above doing anything.

Summing up this whole ECW relaunch. Vince knows more about promoting wrestling than everyone on this board combined, trust me. I wouldn't have thought him capable of thinking the likes of Holly and Test would be accepted-even though I've liked some of their work-much less the rotating guest stars we had on ECW for a while. Maybe this is the alcohol making me state the obvious but did he really think he could take the brand and make it his own? I gave it a chance for a while, argued with some people on here over not giving it time, but like on most of the WWE, I've about given up after decades. It would have been easy to have a Smackdown 6 type group leading the brand, maybe Van Dam, Sabu, Punk, Benoit, Mysterio (without the Guerrero garbage) and a sixth such as Sandman but giving the fans what they want doesn't seem to be a priority anymore.
-
Really, I've liked some of what I've seen from the B-squad type guys, Holly, Test, even Dupree, but this just isn't what the established ECW fans expected or want. If it was a start up show I think the reaction would be different, but it's not and there's no way it can't be compared to the old stuff.
-
If it gets the point where it looks like it's about to cease operations, I can see him giving the old ECW style a shot. That includes out with Big Show, Holly, Test, etc, major pushes for Sandman, etc, and only new guys that fit the style and ECW attitude.

Horrible comparison. Rock and Austin were two of the biggest stars EVER. No one is going to reach that. And Cena's over, he makes a lot of money, he's justified as a main eventer. Having him Honky Tonk his way to the title is an awful move. I meant retaining the title Honky Tonk style, whenever he eventually turns heel. That came out wrong. Ric Flair retained the belt that way for years.

I remember one town having Pro Wrestling this Week, NWA Worldwide, Deep South (Atlanta independent), Contintental (Birmingham), Memphis, and one of the WWF syndicated shows in a block, starting on Saturday morning. The Deep South show had awful production, dark and taped in a club but seemed a lot more real to many fans at the time than the cartoon WWF shows.

I'd have liked Brown better, if he never talked. Or at least sounded tough and mean instead of corny, lol.

Classic WCW Nitro, Thunder, & Saturday Night...

A Nitro from 1999. Yes, this just goes over the first couple of minutes, not even to the start of the show. This takes a lot longer than I thought, especially trying to think of jokes. I'll put more on later, maybe. The end of ER before Nitro includes George Clooney, one of the guys from Revenge of the Nerds, a crying Asian woman and a nurse who reminds of me of the fat female bailiff from Night Court. There are some patients being treated, I'm not sure why because it's being forwarded, but I'm guessing it's because they're in a hospital. Finally it's over. The nerd was sitting on a porch swing with some woman and her baby as it ended. Ads for Suzuki, with a horse featured instead of a motorcycle, some Hugh Grant movie (no Divine Brown to be seen) and DeBeers diamonds. Too bad it didn't have a thing to do with Colonel DeBeers, he could have feuded with Hardbody Harrison, or Master P for that matter. Preview of tomorrow's ER, but I missed it due to typing. Here we go: 1999 Nitro symbol says it's time for the show. HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST MONDAY: Press conference with Master P: "I'm glad to be here in WCW, I'm here to have a lot of fun, it's gonna be exciting." (Sure.) "Iiiiiiiiiiiii, hate rap," sing the wanna-be cowboys, including Minnesota's Mr. Perfect, who at least appears to be having a good time with this bullcrap. Boy, was his last relatively big run wasted. "You still want me cowboys?!" P yells from the ring, to the cowboys. Ric Flair announces a major coup, the Nature Boy, Roddy Piper, becoming one. I think the Spice Girls sang about that (come on, I had a daughter idolizing them at around that time). Flair makes Piper the vice-president of the world and they beat down someone, but the highlights cut to Bagwell hitting the blockbuster to pin the Nature Boy. Tony screams this is Buff's biggest win ever. I scream at Bagwell pinning Flair, apparently cleanly. Cut to Savage and Sid getting out of the Hummer (remember that?) with three ladies, I think the future Molly Holly is one of them. In the ring, Savage tells Big Sexy from now on, he'll be more vicious than Nash will ever understand. Nash in the ring, challenges Sid to wrestle for Nash's world title. That leads (surprise) to a Savage-Sid beatdown on Nash. Crow Sting makes the save, cleans house with the bat. Tenay says Sting is "definitely back in black." -

"Flair says Tennessee hasn't liked him since he made Dolly Parton ride Space Mountain." Now that made me laugh. I've never given a tape or show review like these before, but I'm tempted to give it a shot on the Nitro episode I've found on a tape. It was during the rap is crap stuff so it might not be pretty. If the show is complete, I'll try it in the next day or two.
