    The Old School questions thread

He did that on Saturday Night's Main Event to Piper, just watched it again the other day. I don't ever remember it being used anymore.

The OAO 2006 US Elections Thread

So basically you had no reason to say that. Looking at the numbers, Ford appealed in Tennessee mostly to the poor, in rurals and cities, and blacks who make up just 15 percent of the population. By poor I meant those making 15,000 or less, not just "everybody besides the rich." There's a lot more in Tennessee doing well than not, no matter the national perception. And yes, CNN is still discussing the Ford "call me" ad. When one of the commentators said "it was just on two days" the other answered yes, but it was shown nationwide when it was discussed for several more. And yes, CNN, whose fault was that?

The OAO 2006 US Elections Thread

There's not nearly as much wackiness at Freerepublic as I had hoped for. That's the best I could find in a short time period. The first one isn't necessarily wrong, but another reason for a lack of rural attacks would be the lack of political importance, as targets. I do agree, unless you've got a bomb, an armed population would be a lot harder to deal with a disarmed population. Maybe the gang members in cities would fight back for those who gave up arms.

    Spoiler Alert

I gave them a pass for a while, losing the Rock, Foley (off and on), Austin, then Lesnar, Guerrero, others, injuries to Benoit, Angle, having limited appearances by Undertaker, would be hard to overcome in a short time. But it's been a while now. long enough. There's easy solutions, turn Cena heel and have him Honky Tonk his way to title wins until Wrestlemania, things like that. Very little is done that makes sense, though, just like he said Monday. I still actually like most of what I see on Smackdown, even though its hard to get excited about some of it since there's not much buildup. Compare that to Raw, buildup to boredom.

The OAO 2006 US Elections Thread

Oh shush, Gator boy. (Go Vols, even if the state went Republican) One of the commentators on MSNBC said basically TN is racist if Ford wasn't elected, so there you go. The national media jumped on the ad, used it to attack Republicans in general. If the whitest county in the state goes for Ford by 30 percent after the ad airs, you know it didn't accomplish what it wanted if it was actually a black-white thing. Most of Corker's big wins were in the wealthier areas of the state, suburban areas. I did have to laugh-in an exit poll, the number with less than a high school education voted something around 70-30 for Ford.

They should just admit who they're going for. By the way in my state, TN, probably the whitest county in the state voted for Ford by about 30 percent. So much for the "racist ad" the national media couldn't be quiet about affecting the race here.

I didn't like Wolf Blitzer being upbeat when announcing Democrat wins, then downbeat when announcing Repulican wins especially the latest in Tennessee. Why doesn't he just admit who he's rooting for? Same for Anderson Cooper when talking to Carville: And from Tennessee, the news isn't good (pauses a few seconds and realizes what he's said) for Democrats.

    What would you do

Not talking about booking an angle or for an individual wrestler, just general ideas you think would help the product, especially for people watching at home: These are in random order: 1-Bring back male managers. Divas aren't managers in the old sense, I do like Melina managing Nitro though. I'm talking about the Bobby Heenan types. Give an Albert or a Matt Morgan a mouthpiece like that, and maybe they would have gotten over. Maybe not, but they'd have a lot better chance. You might say there's no Heenan out there, but Heenan, Blassie, more were wrestlers before they managed. Flair, Foley, Funk, guys that can talk, let them be managers. 2-Related to the managers, bring back heel stables. They don't even have to have a a manager but ones that do need one, get them one. Find them a reason to be together other than they're just heels. Big thing, leave the roster at 3 or 4, max. After that, too many get lost in the shuffle. Another thing, don't fall into the old NWO thing "Who's going to change sides." That really made me switch the channel sometimes. 3-If a wrestler gets no reaction at a taped show, give them canned reactions. I'd rather hear a fake reaction, face or heel heat, than no reaction at all. Where it's already being done, do it better. It's 2006, the technology should be there to make it sound real. 4-Merge the Raw and Smackdown titles, let the champ defend on both shows. 5-Make the IC title and US title co-number one contenders. Both wrestlers get regular shots at the belt. Maybe once every year to 18 months, have one of those win the belt, make a tournament for the US or IC title that's vacated. 6-Give more hype to secondary titles, and bring back the 6-man title to get heat for one of the stables. Bring back a TV title that's defended on both shows, every week. 7-As much as possible, don't talk about other matches and angles while a match is going on. I know it's necessary sometimes, but not 10 seconds into a Shelton match. 8-Either hire more women wrestlers with ability, wait until the number is built up through training, or end the division. There should be at least 6 who can wrestle, not embarrass themselves, and not risk hurting themself and the opponent. 9-Post a weekly top 10 on both shows on TV and the net, and not the stupid one on WWE.com. At times, make matches from the kayfabe list, #5 beats #4, they switch places next week. Add as much realism as possible. 10-Keep the announcers from name dropping hip musical acts, movies, etc. Lawler and JR aren't hip, keep that crap out of their headphones. 11-Limit heel or face turns to at least 18 months, unless it's for a good reason-unexpected crowd reaction, injuries, etc. 12-Limit the legend type segments. The more often they're done, the less effective they are. 13-More tag teams, permanent type tag teams, not just to booked for an eventual breakup and feud. No explanations really needed on this one.

    Spoiler Alert

Smackdown was perfect for me, without a local UPN affiliate it came on late Saturday night about the time I'd get in. On Fridays now on CW I have to remember to tape it. I don't like everything about it but I like it so much better than Raw. Worst stuff is all the Guerrero nonsense, no real complaints about anything else.

    Spoiler Alert

I've been watching more of my old tapes like Saturday night's Main Event. Guys like JYD, Harley Race past his prime, Nikolai Volkolff, George the Animal Steele, Blackjack Mulligan, shouldn't be more entertaining than Orton, Shelton, tremendous athletes, better production, etc. But the shows are better than Raw even when I know who's going to win, and in some cases, know the match move by move. Right now I'm watching the SNME that started Jake Roberts face turn, it beat anything tonight by a mile.

Yeah but I don't want to be Vince. It's an act, or at least what's on TV is an act, but the way he's had on screen relationships with Trish, etc, is creepy.

The OAO Raw #702 Thread (November 6th)

I think the individual spirit squad members had potential, now maybe just 1. Crime Time gets a good reaction one week, no reaction the next, probably just depends on how much the crowd is into the show, period. I would have liked a heel Eugene who played the fans for fools, not off the deep end. You already have Umaga as a wildman. I think the Highlanders have some ability, but not as faces, the fans don't care enough. Vince must have though Super Crazy was the carjacker.
