From reading several biographies on the American Founding Fathers, the best all-rounded one of them was John Adams. Washington had integrity and leadership like no other, with a great example being the order in his will to release all his slaves. Jefferson had many ideas, and one only needs to look to the Declaration of Independence. But a lot of his ideas were also really, really stupid. When he visited France he denounced the King and predicted a bloodless aristocratic revolution. Soon after, he was praising the King and editing out articles that showed how stupid is comments were. Adams gets stuck in the middle for some reason, but to me, from reading about him, he comes across as more logical and reasoned than Jefferson, and certainly with a lot more integrity than him. It boggles the mind why there isn't a big statue of him in Washington. But I'm only Australian.

Ok, basically I've got my old Dell Inspiron 2650 with Windows XP and I want to completely clear EVERYTHING on my hard drive and start from scratch, even if it means just re-installing XP again. Being computer illiterate, how do I do this?

It's called cabinet solidarity, and every Australian government does it. Without it the party is politically divided, not to mention politically dead.

Because he's nowhere near as far right as Howard is. Costello is someone who think could easily be either Labor or Liberal, as he's to the right of most of the Labor party but to the left of the majority of the Liberals. For that very reason, I too hope that Howard is relieved sooner rather than later. Unless of course Abbott somehow beats Costello in the leadership challenge, as he's possibly the only potential PM worse than Howard. And tommy, I too am saddened that Family First look possible to be the one person the Coalition has to swing in order to control the Senate. However I'd prefer that one member of Family First to be there than a government majority. As is I think that the next three years will be amongst the worst for Australia. I fear for the environment, I fear for our national security, I fear for our health and education systems (as someone going into university next year especially) and I fear for refugees and I fear for gays. It really will be a time of backwards movement (especially with this talk of abortion being an issue, which really worries me). Err, what? Costello is less conservative than Howard, but that hardly places him further to the left. He is a classical liberal, in the economic and social sense of the term, and would have no place in the labor party. He believes in a fully deregulated labor market and he abhors the unions. He's for a big decrease in the top marginal tax rate (or the abolition of it altogether), and would probably want to index all the other rates. The reason why Costello is better than Howard, is because he's more LIBERAL than Howard. That would tend to put him further to the right of the political spectrum, but those measurements are so ambiguous and subjective that its useless to argue over them.

Basically, in 7 days I have to participate in a long distance run. My question is, is there any point in doing a few jogs in the upcoming week? Like, will it actually help me lose a few seconds in my timing?

Christ, just get Peace Sells... It's got everything; The Conjuring, Peace Sells, Devils Island, Good Mourning/Black Friday, and my favourite Megadeth track, My Last Words It really is guitar bliss, more so than Rust In Peace IMO, though most would disagree...I dunno...I just like the riffs better. And I never got what the big idea about Countdown To Extinction was. It was OK, but I take Youthanasia as the Best of Megadeth's post-RIP albums. Oh, and Mechanix BLOWS THE SHIT out of the Four Horseman. Faster, heavier, better.

Here's a worthy article on Reagan's fiscal policy, for those who care. It was written in March 2001.

They'll have done a bloody good job if it can top 'Excalibur'.

I'll say Powerslave, but Brave New World would be up there, as would Dance of Death. And yes, X-Factor is bloody underrated.

Yeah, due to the trend in world oil prices. It would have happened regardless of what government was leading the country. C'mon, he went to an ELECTION with the GST and WON. Here's something to sleep on. Maybe the people don't hate Howard as much you would like them to. The polls certainly don't show this hatred. Where's your evidence?

That had more to do with industrial relations and Fraser not being strong enough to deal with it. Maybe if Howard was PM back then, he'd have been a bit stronger.

In the Cloisters The sun crept o'er the cloisters, In corners lisped the breeze, And from the blue of heaven Strayed the songbird's melodies. There was something singing somewhere. And I sensed its thrilling strains, 'Twas the spirit of the singing, Going through my surging veins. The grasses swayed in rythm, While the shadows onward stole, And as the day passed outward, I could hear a far bell toll. I could hear it tolling somewhere, tolling o'er the mysterious plains, 'Twas the bell that called to battle, Going tolling through my veins. These pensive linked arches, that stretch away in time, through happy years are searching, For the simple and sublime. But there's laughter ringing somewhere, Ringing out in joyous strains; 'Tis the laughter of the happy Going ringing through my veins. And hushed but pleasant thoughts Go straying through the naves, Like somnolent, soft murmers From the ever-lapping waves. But there's someone singing somwhere, Singing clear o'er waves and plains; 'Tis their singing of her praises Going ringing through my veins.

'Down Under' being in the Top 10 greatest songs of all time is a joke... It should AT LEAST be in the top 5.

An American Trilogy - Elvis I'm an Australian, but by god, every time I listen to that song, I'm an American for 4 minutes and 44 seconds.

Can someone please tell me what Kerry's stance is on Free Trade? I went to his web page but all he talks about it 'preventing foreigners from screwing us over.' Is he FOR lower tariffs and multilateral or bilateral free trade agreements with other nations? Or is he just a 'protector' of American jobs by jacking up protection on industry.

Actually, I had Rhapsody in mind when typing that.

All this talk of sub-genres makes me want to listen to some European Progressive Melodic Symphonic Orchestral Power Metal.

2002 had its moments, especially with Mr Perfect making the FINAL FOUR.

I may as well vocalise my weird love for Helloween. Helloween die-hards will point out that the albums Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt I + II are their finest work. My problem with those albums (released in the mid to late 80s) is that they're TOO gallopy with vocals so high pitched they break glass. Luckily for Helloween, their later two albums were shit so they fired vocalist Michael Kiske and hired Andy Deris. Slowly but gradually Helloween began to make shockingly catchy hard rock anthems (I wouldn't totally call it metal) that can be easily seperated from the Power Metal genre. Though still the occassional gallopy beat on a few songs, Helloween put out [/i]Better than Raw[/i] in 98 and The Dark Ride in 2003 which can definetely be catagorized as hard rock/heavy metal, with very few power metal elements present. I'd say these two albums blow the fuck out of anything they've done before, from the perspective of a general music fan, not a pompous power metal goon. They're latest album is a step down unfortunetely, but it's more a case of two steps forward and one step back. Compare the song 'I Want Out' to 'Revelation'
