    Headbanger’s Ball

People should approach power metal with the intention of burying their head in their hands from the sheer ridiculousness of the lyrics, but at the same time, enjoy it with tongue in cheek. That's why I like Manowar and Helloween, and that's why it's harder to like bands such as Stratovarius, who actually take their stuff for real, thinking they're making orchestral masterpieces about the human journey or whatever deep and meaningful crap they splurge out. That shit just plain pisses me off.

*Sigh* Ah well, your loss. *Grabs plastic sword and vikings helmet and listens to Dragonforce - Valley of the Damned*

Okay, that's fine, not many people do. But please tell me you don't hate Manowar.

How about 'In the Hall of Mountain Kings?' You can wear buffalo underwear and big boots.

But they talk about middle earth and elves!....ELVES!

Heh heh, indeed it is. Try the song 'Forever', it's the kind of thing you LOVE. Edit: And Blind Guardian are the shit.

In the case of Power Metal, anyone heard Kamelot? I've heard some of their stuff, and its pretty good. Some of its garbage, but they seem to be making more respectable and deeper material as they age.

    Return of the King Trailer

Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Hmmm, that's quite a big difference. Part of the reason I liked the way Tolkien presented the death Saruman was that it provoked a little sympathy from the reader for grima wormtongue, giving him a sort of redeeming quality. Anyway, the final scene (assuming its the boat sailing off into the west), accompanied with some emotional music, hopefully will bring out the tears in me.

    Return of the King Trailer

I've never been so fired up about a movie than this one. And I pray that it wins best picture. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): I'm also interested in seeing how they structure the film differently to the book, and how far they seperate the actual crowning of Aragorn from the ending of the film, whether or not they'll include the majority of the last battle in the shire, or merely just present it as a wasteland with Sauruman as the official 'chief', leading to his quick death. The ship sailing away into the west should also be a winner.

President brute forces Do Not Call into law

I see protests in Europe over globalisation and capitalism, does that mean that every European is anti-capitalist? The fact is, those that attack US troops are very much in the minority, whether they're Saddam loyalists or just plain anti-US extremists. Sure, we hear tonnes of news stories about Iraqi protests and deaths of US soldiers, but could it be slightly possible that these bits of 'news' are coming from those who are biased against US occupation (these people being, generally speaking, the left). There's a difference, atleast in the governments approach. They went into Iraq supposedly because of the possibility of Iraq obtaining a nuclear capacity for arms and other such WMD. North Korea already HAS them. Common Sense says that you don't attack (let alone invade) a country that might just use those nukes against you.

President brute forces Do Not Call into law

The link I gave was a poll conducted on scientific means with no personal opinion or bias at all. The general opinion or political leanings that the magazine may have, has not weight at all on the poll.

President brute forces Do Not Call into law

So it was Bush's fault that 9/11 occurred? There seems to be some mythical idea going around that every Iraqi believes that the US have made things worse for them than Saddam had. I've given this link before, but I should obviously give it again. http://www.taemag.com/issues/articleID.176...icle_detail.asp This shows the results of the first scientific poll conducted in Iraq, post Saddam era. It shows a few things: 1. 2.

Report: Pope's Health 'In a Bad Way

I'm not a Catholic, but I'll be sad to see him go. I always admired the stuff he did in the twilight years of the Cold War.

    Really, Really Bad Album Covers

After coming off Iron Maiden's first really bad album cover (though musically it's still brilliant), I thought it would be neat if we all through in a few shitty covers that have caught our eyes. Europe 72 - Greatful Dead, just a very annoying cover. Lost Horizon - Awakening the World. This one really pisses me off, rats and pigs in business suits acting as the puppeteers of everyone else with the band marching in from the horizon. Wow, that's really deep man. Mayhem - Dawn of the Black Hearts I put a link to a page with all of Mayhem's album covers, as the actual image page just transfers you to the main site. Anyway, I read a while back that the former member of Mayhem, Euronymous (sp?), found the bands singer (named 'Dead') dead in his apartment, having shot himself with a shotgun. Along with calling the ambulance, Euronymous also took photos of the dead singer and ate his brain (which only a true black metaller would do ). Someone please tell me this is NOT a picture of Dead.

I'm going on a date tomorrow...

I knew a guy who was once upset that his new "bitch" just wanted to date him for his cocaine. What scum. But it had a happy ending, as he beat her senselessly into the ground. He served a bit of time, but it was worth it he assures me.

Are there any good metal bands anymore?

Despite a lot of critical views, the X Factor album is one of my favourite IM albums. It has a melancholy atmosphere and dark vibe to it, such has never been seen before in a Maiden album. No one can deny the greatness of Sign of the Cross, Fortunes of War or the Edge of Darkness. I also liked the simplicity of the Virus single from their Best of compilation. And on a side not, X Factor , along with Piece of Mind and Seventh Son..., are supposedly Harris' 3 favourite albums.

    California recall debate

Keep in mind polls show 40-45% of voters voting against the recall. This debate didn't have to turn off many to put Davis over the edge. Fair enough, it should be interesting to see the polls post-debate.

    Obscure Unsolved Mysteries ???

There's a really good film based this guy called 'All the King's Men', which one 3 Academy awards in 1949, including Best Picture. I highly recommend, but take note that all the names are changed (Huey Long is portrayed as 'Willie Stark').

    California recall debate

I disagree. Throughout the debate, not one candidate disputed the fact that California had substantial problems (especially financially) that needed to be fixed. Even Cruz admitted that there was too much spending. The whole negative vibe in the debate is enough to suggest that Davis hasn't been doing his job. Ye, but the entire panel wants to be govenor. I mean it wouldn't be a good tactic to get up there and praise Davis. Regardless, negative campaigning by candidates doesn't always have to happen, but in the case of Davis, it's in abundance.

    California recall debate

As an international outsider who is usually deprived of any California recall coverage, I felt Tom McClintock came off the best. He had way more clarity and specification in his policies and values, and I agreed with most of them. Arnold just seemed a tad too vague and rhetoric inspired with little specifics, without delving into descriptive solutions. The independent annoyed the piss out of me, the greenie was just as a greenie should be (fucking pathetic substance wise, though he spoke well), and Cruz Bustamante really shouldn't have admitted the ridiculous spending spree that occurred. That's just a perspective from an outsider, but from what I gather, Arnold's strong lead in the polls should convince most republicans to back him.
