Thanks for not reading my previous post! -
Indeed, to each his own. You make great points about how you like him, but looking back, I think I just liked him to like him since ECW was "cool." Some of it just doesn't hold up to me now.

No way does Joey come close to Solie and JR. I may have criticized him for the sake of criticizing since nobody really has (and let's face it, he deserves criticism like any other commentator), but he really should not be held in the same vein as Solie and JR. Hell, the only reason I disliked Solie was how monotonous he was. Sure, he treated it as legitimate, but I like some excitement once in a while.

TSM Profile Tag Team Edition: Demolition
garfieldsnose replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
The face paint scared me as a kid, but my first PPV was WrestleMania VI and I was ecstatic to see them beat Andre and Haku because the people I watched it with, my babysitter and her family, were going nuts. So I figured I had to go apeshit if they were, and then I really started liking them. I was torn at SummerSlam 90 (my first live event, as it was in Philly) since I loved Demolition and the Hart Foundation. I must have been the only kid there cheering for Demolition. -

Interesting you brought that up since that's the thing I always notice when they are on screen. I'm not a big fan of that type of haircut at all. -

It was the reverseness I was going for. -
I think the run to the corner and smashing the opponent's face with your ass is pretty devastating when done right.

The Things That Anger You Thread.

WHAT HAPPENED BRODY? I want to hear about this war. So, I'm driving to my girlfriend's Friday night and again, NJ drivers suck a dick. This lady slowly pulls out of a store right into my lane when I'm right fucking there. I don't understand. When I started driving seven years ago, drivers were not this bad. I almost was the victim of three car accidents this weekend because of fucking dumbasses on the road. I'm laid back so I won't beep my horn because then I'd feel bad about scaring the other drivers, but this is a place I can vent, and it really fucking pisses me off that people suck at driving here. -
ECW wasn't an "indy promotion." And in my experience, casual fans care more about why these guys are fighting each other and what the story behind it is. They could care less about the moves. I'm not saying it was a horrible thing for Joey to do, but looking back, I understand NOW why Vince wants commentators to sell the storyline instead of the moves in the ring, because it makes casual fans more apt to pay attention to why something is happening. EDIT: Let me clarify why I said ECW wasn't an indy promotion because I know people will disagree. I don't think ECW was such an indy promotion that you can compare other indy announcers to Joey. Joey was great for a niche fan base, and he always hyped up and never seemed bored or anything. I think the proper comparison would be to WCW and WWF/E commentators, not other indy ones. In comparison to WWE and WCW, it could have been labeled an indy promotion, but I don't think you give Joey enough credit if you compare him to really, really, really outright bad announcers.

I don't take wrestling seriously, so I'm not going to bitch about much. I never really cared about the commentating, other than a "wow, annoying" type of approach. The fact is I'm watching the entire ECW on TNN run and I had a computer in my hands so I decided to make a thread. It's not like I went out of my way to talk about how much wrestling announcers suck, and I don't complain about it 98% of the time. The casual audience could give a fuck about Tommy Dreamer wanting the fans approval, Sabu being crazy because of his uncle, Terry Funk being old, etc. Why would this matter to the casual fan? It never grew on them. That's not Joey's fault. I didn't mean he sucked on those terms, I meant he was as annoying as the other commentators of which people complain about. My whole point was you can pick apart reasons why the announcers suck in vague terms, but Styles was no better than any other commentator at that point. But I never saw anyone give him any shit because he was "cool." Jim Ross is great, but he can be annoying. I've enjoyed a lot of commentators over the years, and when I said the other announcers sucked, I should have been more specific. Schiavone, Lawler, and Tenay were among the worst. I should have said "with the exception of a few" which would have made my point clearer. And you're a little biased so I can understand, but it isn't blasphemous to hate on Joey.

Biggest "Drop the Ball" Moment in Ever
garfieldsnose replied to TMC1982's topic in General Wrestling
"Dropping" the ball usually means there was a chance to do something pretty great in a lot of eyes, and then failing to do so or muffing it up. There was never a real chance to do Austin/Hogan at a WM since their two egos would make it impossible. The closest they could have gotten was WM 19, but I'm not sure if that should really be called dropping the ball. I think Benoit was also injured during most of the invasion if not all of it, so they had a lot of talent on both sides either not signed or injured. Angle and Austin joining the Alliance was pretty much the pits for that whole storyline. -

Not even Jesus could love that town. Actually, the only Onion article ever to make me laugh (for the right reasons) was one about an athlete blaming God/Jesus for his team's loss. Reminds me. Philadelphia is the worst town to play in because of its fans. Talk about cliches.
-
What's sad about it is that when you look back at the WWF and WCW announcers, they sucked more. That's been pointed out various times since, but I've never seen anyone shit on Styles, but he sucked just like all of them. I can't decide if a color guy made him better or worse.

Donughts? Seriously? If TNA can't get past a 1.4 (I think that was their best rating, but I could be mistaken), they need to make serious changes. If Kurt Angle, Christian, Sting, Nash, etc. can't help make a serious climb in the ratings, who can they get that actually will? I don't think Samoa Joe is the answer anymore. I doubt even HHH would help them.
