The OaO Raw Thread for 2/25/2008.

Kind of funny they'll let Smackdown get the win in the "Superiority of the Brands" match. I expect a brand switch for Batista come the draft. Probably with Umaga heading to SD! or ECW as well. DH Smith needs a tag partner for the next couple of years.

Also if the Hornswoggle Ruse goes all the way to the top, I assume we'll see Finlay and Shane vs JBL and Vince because Vince is said to be working out to have a match.

Umaga vs Batista could be a good enough match. However the outcome rather obvious.

What was the deal that was supposed to be unspoken between Finlay and Vince McMahon? I agree Horny as a McMahon ran it's course and Ken Kennedy is the ideal "real" candidate.

WWE General Discussion - February 2008

I believe Trump got $5M or something. $20M is pretty damn ridiculous considering he's not that much of a mainstream draw. He is working 6 weeks of tapings, as opposed to just WM, but how can Vince and Co look other wrestlers in the eye who are working 250 shows a year for $100K. I don't believe this for a second though. Probably just hype. Mayweather makes similar money for his boxing purses, but that draws crazy PPV buys.

What did WWE expect by holding the presser in LA? That's DLH Country. The problem wwe has with this is that it initially started with Mayweather "making the save" for Mysterio, with Big Show playing the obvious heel in he was attacking the smaller, beaten-up Rey just to make a statement. Then you have the classic David vs Goliath battle lines - can David ever be the heel? Only thing you could maybe do know is partner Big Show with Mayweather, and say it was all a planned ruse to make them both a lot of money or something. I mean I guess PBF could have a falling out with Rey, with Rey saying he used Mysterio to get himself over and that he wasn't making the save for Rey as much as putting himself in the spotlight. However that still doesn;t explain Big Show attacking Rey all of a sudden becoming the face.

How would PWinsider know who was "leaking news" unless they were using the same handle on their boards as they were using elsewhere?

ROH 2/22 (Deer Park) and 2/23 (NYC-6th Year Anniversary)

So there's a shit storm over the rape angle? Sweeney knocked out Allison Danger and then tells Dempsey to get on her and become a man. The crowd starts cheering Bobby to in fact do it, chanting "Man Up!". Now it would have been a heel heat seeking angle that would have been largely forgotten, however the crowd encouraging Bobby to have his way with the knocked out Allison Danger just made the whole bit rather creepy and unnerving.

Maybe a half dozen. But fair enough, I'll give it up.

Kane had a good match with Khali at WM too.

This one says "Risa Above" on the inside of his right forearm. Looks pretty vibrant, so it may be fairly new. Well he was only talking about getting it in his "Superstar Ink" bit on wwe.com - so it's relatively new. http://www.wwe.com/inside/superstarink/articles/edge

    Smackdown *Spoilers* 2/19/08

The C4 looks way too contrived. I always thought he should at least grab the back of his oppoents trunks with his left hand to make it look like he was lifting/tossing the opponent, however I assume he couldn't complete the backflip if he did that. Besides the curbstomp is badass. I just don't think either Paul or Katie have the ability to pull off this angle. Either you have "it" or you don't. I fear this is the last chance for Paul...

Yeah I agree. I believe Austin came up win such an angle before it was bastardized to what you see today.

The think with Mayweather is is that I don't think the wwe is going for main stream press as so much as targeting the PPV-buying Mayweather fanbase. In return, Mayweather is trying to expand his "brand" outside of the insular boxing world. This isn't Trump and the main stream media interest, this is targeted cross-promotion.

    ECW 2.19.08

They should have waited for Stevie's big return until they were in old ECW country. It would have made a difference in crowd reaction. It's like when the wwe tried to start the Funk/Foley/Dreamer angle in California... Heyman had Punk debut in ROH/ECW country and I think it made a helluva difference and really set the tone for his character being accepted as a star.

    ECW 2.19.08

I wouldn't be against it really if it lead to the wrestlemania match. However with HBK likely getting that spot, Punk would likely job out to Flair next week or soon there after.

James Curtis plays a great old school Southern heel, he and Cassidy O'Reilly were actually a solid tag team in OVW.

His jumping through the ropes corner clothesline is kickass as well...

I'm waiting for Hornswoggle's "little brother" to debut - of course with somebody the size of Big Daddy V dressed up like a leprechaun playing the part.

    ECW 2.19.08

Jason Riggs was a developmental at one time IIRC, along with his brother. They played "seconds/cornermen" to Puders MMA character under Heyman's OVW.

The "problem" with Mayweather in America is that he's far from a heavyweight. America loves their heavies...

Mayweather paired with MVP would have made a helluva lot more sense.

WWE General Discussion - February 2008

I don't know if HBK could go super heel when he's expected to go over Flair and retire him at WM. I still like Edge vs Flair in a Title vs Career match, with Edge going over only to have MITB winner Jeff Hardy cash in his title shot and beat Edge to end the night. Floyd Mayweather is huge in boxing circles but never crossed over to the main stream conscious like de la Hoya has. I mean Pretty Boy even did Dancing with the Stars for crissakes. It's actually a pretty good cross promotion between WWE and PBF in that wwe hopes even a fraction of his boxing fans tune in for the PPV and Floyd is hoping to raise his name value to non-boxing fans which seems to be working. I'm not feeling Mayweather vs Big Show though. Mayweather should have been booked the heel(he's a natural heel), however against Big Show, the size difference alone keeps him the David-esque defacto face.

I don't know if I believe the MVP/Mayweather rumor unless Matt Hardy isn't due back - what is his status? I don't know how a Mysterio/Mayweather vs Big Show/Partner will work because Mysterio is a one armed man and both are tiny compared to Big Show. A better bet would be Batista and Mayweather vs Big Show and partner. And if Hardy isn't cleared enough to wrestle, the partner could be MVP and Hardy could maybe involve himself in the fhinish, maybe leading to Floyd pinning MVP or something.
