WWE General Discussion - January 2008
Thanks for the Fish replied to Prophet of Mike Zagurski's topic in The WWE Folder
So where are the SD! spoilers? -
I think the Edge/Punk interplay is just setting up a reason for Punk to be included in the RR without totally shitting on the ECW title in the process. Personally I'd much rather see a Edge/Punk feud than an Edge/Undertaker feud. Taker just bores the hell out of me lately and he needs a fresh opponent. I'd rather see Undertaker vs MVP and Edge vs Punk if I was playing bookerman...

I thought it was a good show. Jeff Hardy is really coming into his own, though he's using his death-defying spots to do it. I don't know if that bodes well for his main event longevity. Then again he's had the kids and the female crowd behind him, the highspots are probably just getting the adult men. I don't have any beef with the final spot - for Orton laying there so long after a basic backdrop - we didn't see him land, maybe he spiked down on the top of his head for all we know. The bigger question would be why in the hell did they have the box sitting at the side of the ramp? I was thinking it was crap when Hardy climped to the first light standard, thinking MEH I'd jump off that high, but when he went up higher I sat up and took notice. I wondered why they didn't fade to black at that moment or shortly after, instead wasted 3-4 minutes getting them stretchered out - until of course Hardy raises his hand to give the Matt Hardy's V1 hand gesture. Hunter vs Snitsky went longer than it should have - that match time should have been given to Regal and Flair. The destroying of the titantron bit was wrestlecrap embarassing though. Obviously they were setting up for a new set next week for WWEHD, however if there wasn't the Orton/Hardy spot at the end, I think Hunter running up the ramp and chucking the hammer though the big TT would have been a better "destruction" and would have mimicked the iconic commercial. Snitsky sucks. I think more than anything it's his over-the-top teeth that really bugs the hell out of me. He should have been Fake Kane back in the day though. Womens match was all over the place. Ashley looks to have a ton of ring rust on her. As ridiculous as it sounds, it seems they are setting up Candace Michelle for the big challenger for Beth Phoenix. Did HBK screw up his mic work on purpose in order to make the pre-taped Kennedy segment look stupid as hell? HBK challenges Kennedy to come out this week and Trevor Murdoch is sent out without any clarification. Then post match Kennedy accepts HBK's challenge for next week. I dunno it seemed really off. I liked the HBK/Murdoch match though, I think Murdoch could be a player in the company - he just needs to get away from Raw. I liked the match finish as well, Murdoch ducks out of the SCM only to be locked in a new sub finisher. Did HBK hint at soing for the sharpshooter for a brief second or did he just forget how he needed to lace the legs? JBL's promo segment was effective enough, but it didn't need all the balloons and pyro - that was overkill. I guess that's his gimmick though. I thought at one point Jericho would rise up from under the balloons. Mini-RR was silly, but fun. Hornswoggle can't really work worth shit. I wonder why he was hired out of all of the choices. Mini-Kennedy and Mini-Kane were fun, Batista and Mankind - not so much. How many times are we going to see Finlay lay into Khali with the shillelagh? So what is Finlay and McMahon's deal? I'm guessing it has somethign to do with the paternity of Hornswoggle. Maybe we could get a real McMahon bastard sooner than later. Did Kennedy Kennedy pass the HBK test? Given how short Flair vs Regal was, I would have just as soon left it off the card. The angle seems to be getting over well enough. I would have just had him fight on SD! this week, and had MVP help him win, because he wasnted to be the one who retired him sorta deal.

With Big Show, Killings and Harris rumored to be heading in, Jericho and JBL recently added to the active roster, Cena and Lashley do back in reasonably short order and a few developmentals seemingly ready to make the jump you have to assume there is a round of cuts heading our way sooner than later - probably after WM though (isn't that the usual time?). Predictions - Charlie Haas, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, The Highlanders, Snitsky, Domino and Cherry, Khali, Balls Mahoney, Boogeyman, Mike Knox and Kevin Thorn. -
I actually liked Big Show's farewell match against Lashley - but I have a soft spot for Bigman vs Bigman "Clash of the Titans" type matches.
-
What about Big Show re-debuting in the Royal Rumble? His return could be storylined with Lashley's - since Lashley did beat Big Show for the ECW.

Harris will certainly not be on creative/road agent - If I'm not mistaken a "booking contract" is what they call their general wrestler contracts. Wrestlers are classed as independant contractors, so wwe contracts secure "exclusive booking rights" for their services, hence the name "Booking contract". -

Hence a good reason why she didn't keep her Alexis Laree ring name upon her wwe debut. Imagine little Tommy googling his favorite diva only to find those pics. I wonder if the existance of these pics are why the wwe really never got behind her... -

Guess the boxing thing didn't work out for him and he needs to eat. Imagine the food bills for a 440lb man... 44olbs is what 60lbs less when he left - it won't even be noticible. -

I don't know if this was directed at me, but by "indie girls" I meant girls who wrestled the indie circuit and worked their way up. Gail Kim worked the indie circuit, and was trained by Ron Hutchinson in Toronto before catching the wwe's eye. -

TNA by far. WWE treats it's women like second class citizens, eye candy first and second and wrestlers third. It's telling that the head of the writers Stephanie books women so shoddily. With the exception of Christie Hemme, all of TNA's ladies are indie girls. -
Punk being in the RR is a slap in the face to the ECW title. However if he went in saying he wanted the ECW title to main event Wrestlemania I think that would be a good cover for his inclusion in the match. Also you could start the Benjamin/Punk issue in the Rumble as well. What are the odds that Killings or Harris debut(or re-debut in Kilings case) in the Royal Rumble? I don't necessarily want an out of the blue midcarder to win, but somebody like MVP wouldn't be a bad choice. Any upper card guy not named HHH, Undertaker, HBK, Orton or Batista is fine by me. I think a midcard guy should be put over by being the last 3-4 in the rumble and it being a storyline throught out. Burke, Dykstra, Benjamin, Santino, Paul London would all be good Final Four push candidates.
-
Also, popup insider is reporting that Harris is under TNA contract for another week so nothing is official with the wwe. Furthermore I remember that Harris and Storm successfully used wwe interest to re-sign with TNA was a sizeable raise last time their contracts were up. This could just be the same ploy all over again...

Looking at the three rosters, I think his best fit would be teaming with Kevin Thorn. Both play the anti-social/troubled role - they could be fostercare/juvie buddies or something If they gave Harris the initial Edge gimmick(Edge Debut Promo), I think he could pull it off. I think that's basically the character Harris always wanted to play. Funny pic from Harris' official site. Not so much Jedi Harris, but Christian as Ali G. Christian is one wrestler wwe should have never let get away - -
You can't teach charisma. Where does Harris go - Raw, SD, ECW? I can't believe he would go to developmentals. However he can't be treated like a star in any way because that would be giving props to TNA. He'll definitely have a name change because "Chris" is already taken, and they don't want wwe fans searching "Chris Harris" on the internet and finding TNA sites. Just debut him in the Royal Rumble?

I never liked Harris, though AMW was a pretty good team, the two partners didn't like each other IIRC. I think Harris is a decent enough tag team wrestler, but lacks any charisma to be a singles star. However he doesn't seem to realize this and always thinks he's being misused and underpushed. I think the wwe just signed him not because they have plans for him and want him, but because he is a TNA original. -

Never actually formed as Burchill never re-debuted on television. McIntyre was unceremoniously moved over to Raw which doesn't make a lot of sense considering he clashes terribly with The Highlanders. It would be like Samoa Joe meeting Umaga. To further the ridiculousness one of the Heat announcers said McIntyre was trained by the great Scottish wrestler David Taylor - FFS!!. Paul Burchill and Stu Sanders(another Brit) are currently tag champs down in OVW. Maybe they'll eventually be brought up to pair with Dave Taylor. Saunders will fit much better with the other two if it does happen. McIntyre is not long for the company - he offers nothing really. -
Worst ECW offering in a while. Complete lack of sizzle - it was just there. I like Punk working with the wily veteran Chavo, but Chavo hasn't been over in a long time and doesn't bring any fan interest to his matches. Kelly Kelly is a collossal waste of television time. Yang and Moore are too mismashed to be accepted as a legit tag team and have been jobbers for too long to get over as legit threats. Even if they win the titles, they'll just bring the titles down, rather than the titles bringing them up. If wwe had plans for this Colin Delany character they would have used a developmental in the spot. I think they keep using him because he's one scrawny dude who can make a squash look like a million bucks.

I don't know who I hate worse in their cameo appearances Austin or Foley. They're both sad caractures of their heyday and it's a crying shame they both don't realize it and have the guts to stay away. Foley coming out was cue for me to turn off the tv and go to bed. It soulds like I missed a kickass main event because of him. The pillowfight match was dumb as hell. Since it wasn't a team match, why did Mickie and Maria stand around and let Ashley get the pin and the win? Because it was a throwaway gimmick match and she was making her bg return? I was hoping that Regal would have cheated to win the first blood match. I'm surprised HHH wouldn't try and put his old buddy over more. I mean has anybody ever tried to use a blood packet during a FB match - Breaking it open on their opponent of course. It would have set up another match for RR where HHH could have went over. (maybe I just don't what HHH in the RR) Holly vs Carly was dumb. OMG Holly in a big fro is hilarous HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. No not really. Haas' gimmick soulded so much better on paper. The kid just can't pull it off, having the charisma of a lamp post.

Muhammed Hassan didn't overstay his welcome, the moron writers didn't have any common sense and put him in a bad situation. Network complained and as a result the writers punished Hassan by taking him off television and sending him back down to developmental to be re-packaged. Copani was right to walk - it wasn't his fault. If anything I remember that he was "hard to work with" because he wouldn't do half the shit they wanted him to do. Hemme overstayed her welcome by befriending HHH and making Stephanie jealous? Or overstayed her welcome because she posed for Playboy and once you do that the wwe has no use for you anymore? I believe Tiger Ali Singh also balked at taking part in storylines that would mock his religion. Who would have thunk it. Also his father was rich, meaning he didn't need to wrestle. -

While I don't think Orton is untouchable as he thinks he is, I don't scoff at the idea that he could become a lockerroom leader. Firstly I remember hearing somewhere that Orton was a douche to fans to live his gimmick, also that growing up on the road stories of the good ol' days he went out of his way to live the rockstar life so he could have stories to tell (If you are self-aware, that's just ridiculous of course). Also recently he got married and is going to become a father, that has a way of mking somebody grow up. He's 27 years old, closer to 28 - it's about the time one usually starts getting their life together. -

I think the term "Playboy Spreads" is an oxymoron... -
Killings is trying to campaign and politick his way back into the wwe. He's using wrestler connnections in Jeff Hardy and a couple others to try and get him hired and is saying all the right things to the online interviews. Funny thing is that now he's saying him and Cena have no beef, however a few months ago he had Cena cowering in an air port or something. Sure he has to work his gimmick and all, but wwe could be pretty petty. Wwe only seems to have two characters for their black wrestlers - big badasses or cocky young brash shit talkers. Henry, BDV are in the former and Benjamin, Burke and MVP are already in the latter. I guess they have an opening on Raw for such a character even if they just want to feed him to Cena. MVP has his share of backers in the company.
