WWE General Discussion - January 2008
Thanks for the Fish replied to Prophet of Mike Zagurski's topic in The WWE Folder
Playboy is a waste of time. I mean does that porno anime get you all worked up? That's probably more realistic than what PB is going to offer up. Without getting crude, there is only two questions I'd want answered with the pics, one major one and one minor one and the major one will not be answered. Everything else we've seen before sans air brushing on wwe programing. -
Because he is being pushed as a "Hart" legacy. I'd much rather see him teaming with TJ Wilson as a New Bulldogs type of team but calling him DH (Davey Boy - Hart) to make sure everybody knows his connection is dooming him to failure.
-
Current midcarders - CM Punk and MVP are pretty much locks in my opinion. I would be wary of a switch to Raw for either of them, especially MVP at this time as he'd either be fed to Cena or HHH. Underpushed longshot - Santino Marella and Kenny Dykstra. I think Santino is a prime candidate to be drafted to SD! come the summer, where he's be pushed on his wrestling ability and made into more of a legit threat. I worry that Raw might want to keep him for his sports entertainment value though, however he's no use to HHH and Cena as a bumbling heel. Send him to SD! for a year or two and he could come back a threat and main event player. Kenny Dykstra has all the tools, he just needs the necessary push. Developmental - Ted Dibiase Jr. I think he has the best shot out of any of the legacy developmentals. I wasn't impressed by DH Smith, especially considering he's the same age as Kenny Dkystra. Furthermore I think his Hart Connection will put too much pressure on him. For that same reason I think Reid Flair is doomed to failure, and Cody Rhodes will never amount to anything. Dibiase Jr, like Randy Orton, grew up oin and around the business, however given Million Dollar Man was never an "it" wrestler, Ted Jr will have an easier time establishing hiumself. Recently signed Apolo is going to get a big push due to the need for spanish speaking stars and the wwe's desire to expand business in Latin America. Current unsigned talent - WWE will go hard after Samoa Joe, and has a good shot at getting him. However that pick might be too easy. I'll go with Claudio Castagnoli or Tyler Black.

The one name that really jumped out at me is Festus being 24- I always assumed he was a late bloomer and already in his mid-30's. Maybe it's the early onset baldness that ages him in my mind. Deuce is a helluva lot older than I figured as well - 36yo already!?!
-
Doane/Dykstra is a can't miss world champion in the making. He'll be 22 years old in March of 2008, so he's got a lotof years left in him, barring a major injury. I could see a big push for him as early as this year on SD! with the possibility that he could be lined up to threaten Orton's "youngest world champion" accomplishment in 2009 which will lead to a feud between the two. I believe I mentioned it here before, but I'd love to see Dykstra/Victoria booked as the new HBK/Sensational Sherri - both would be perfect for the role. Who was your third? This would be interesting to do again.

"Big Rob" is very likely Rob Terry, a Natural Body Builder(whatever that really means) who's been training down in FCW over the past while.

Coach is a terrible choice because he can't sell the moves and put over the wrestlers because he's not a wrestler. Michael Hayes would have been a much better choice, but Vince loves Coachman fomr some reason or another. I like Chavo, but he's been given many opportunities to connect with the crowd and break through into the upper mid card and he can never make it. Fighting for the Guerrero name could make him a face, however he's a horrid face. He's be much better off joining the Edge faction as the midcard threat to the US title, and eventually could side with Vickie against Edge when he eventually drops her in epic heel fashion or continue to side with Edge when he drops Vickie in epic heel fashion. It looks like they're trying to get Wang and Moore over as the new London and Kendrick. They're just as good in the ring and can make thier opponents look like a million bucks but both Wang and Moore, like Chavo, have had troubles ever connecting with the crowd over their careers. Why is Collin Delaney getting this angle, unless it's really leading nowhere. Otherwise I'm sure they had developmentals they could have used. I'm actually interested in Curtis vs Benjamin - Curtis is a much better heel though, has a great old school southern vibe to him. Right now he's bland as hell, but his ring work is still solid. I like Punk working with Chavo, too bad it was only a one time thing.

why would Austin need bother to change his name unless he was planning a break from the wwe and wanted to keep using it sorta deal? -
So instead of being a masked Mr. Wrestling, Charlie Hass becomes a masked Mr. Sports Entertainment? There is a Blue Blazer vibe to his gimmick - at least they're going something with him. Interesting in that it seems to be a shoot gimmick of sorts. Nick Nemeth is back? Considering he had a bodyguard on Heat, you have to assume it's more than playing jobber. I don't care about Snitsky or sSuper Crazy so I'll skip that Heat match. DH Smith is back, but with a slow burn push - I still think they should call up TJ Wilson and have a British Bulldogs v2.0 tag gimmick. Regal going babyface? If McMahon is going to have a match at WM it could be against Regal. I would have killed to see Regal pound on Horny if it lead to a Finlay/Regal program. Why isn't Regal wrestling anymore anyways? I thought HHH brought him over to elevate him - Maybe we're looking at a HHH vs Regal match at Royal Rumble since Regal cost HHH the Rumble spot. VKM could make the match because Regal's interference saved Flairs career sorta deal. I'd love to see Regal vs HHH because I think HHH would allow Regal to look strong and that would go a long way in estalishing Regal as an upper card player. Kennedy going over clean is interesting but necessary. I like the downward spiral finisher when there is the twisting motion rather than the straight back face plant type. At least umaga got a win, though Hacksaw Jim Duggan should retire already. The Hardy/Santino match finish is something relatively different. Sounds like a pretty solid offering. I don't know how many will be around to actualy watch it though. Hey maybe that's why HHH and HBK both did jobs on the show...

I don't think wwe will release the Sting DVD as long as he is working for TNA. However with it scheduled to be an end of the year DVD, I wonder if they've been in discussions with him and he'll be done with TNA, retired by that time. And if he keeps sticking around in TNA, they could just push it back - I mean once the DVD is done, it can wait as it's not like there would be any new footage to add unless he ever came to the wwe. -
Maybe it's a carrot/stick situation to get Savage to come back for the Hall of Fame. Play nice and you get a positive DVD edit, decline the invite or be an ass and you get a hatchet job. Didn't Bret have to play nice in order to get a positive edit for his DVD?
-
Oaky, the list was already posted in the monthly thread. Anyways it was brought up that the Macho Man DVD could be a Warrior-esque burial job and I could see that as a real possibility.
-
Taken from Gerweck (which usually means it's from one of the pay dirt sheets about a week ago right?) - Is this list legit? Macho Man and Sting late in the year?? Sting would make a helluva lot more sense if he signed on with them for a brief run. How are they going to market that otherwise?

Edge and Christian were unknown entities on the mic, Zach Ryder and Curt Hawkins have already shown us how brutal they are. Of course you're never going to get better without getting mic time, and playing off Edge should give them a certain safety net, with Edge able to rescue them if they are crashing and burning. Edge and Christian showed they had "it" on the mic the first time they were given an honest show outside of the Brood. -

Carlito should have left while he had the opportunity. Wwe realized the needed him FOR THE MOMENT, as they noticed they had no Latin American talent other than Carly, Mysterio and horrid Super Crazy and stroked his ego into staying. Now they've went out and signed Apolo and it's said he's only going to have a short stay in FCW to make their developmentals seem legit but will be on one of the two main rosters in short order. Now they're back interested in Mistico and probably have a few other Mexican/PR wrestlers being scouted as well. SD! desperately needs a face tag team - why not just send Kendrick and London back to SD!, it's not like they're being used to any degree of success on Raw. Only two face teams are Jesse and Festus and Moore and Yang, and while the latter can bump just as good as London and Kendrick, both are used up characters nobody cares about. Best chance for a flippy shit sell-your-ass-off babyface tag team from Developmentals would be pairing Matt Sydal with Johnny Jeter. -

Interesting that Von Erich is fired after the WCCW DVD is made and released. WWE has done this before with hiring past wrestlers when a DVD is being made only to fire them when the DVD is finished. -
Russo gets burnt out and quits. Paul Heyman is brought in and his first roder of business is to get rid of the gimmicky six-sided ring. I begin to watch TNA.

Demento is probably getting indie job offers and offers for shoot interviews from all over, hell I bet even the wwe is interested in him and might give him a call to see if he`s still in ring shape. His youtube rants have pretty much gone viral around the IWC. -
Brusier Bedlam was one bad dude. I don't think Jericho would have ever messed with that guy. Chapter President of Satans Choice Biker Gang and rumored mob hitman and all

I think Hayes is the best candidate right now. However if he can't book and CC, I'd rather just keep him booking SD! which is the best booked show in wrestling. They need to try and get somebody who would have a style similar to JBL. Somebody with championship credibility who can put over the stars today as a result and tie in wrestling history on occasion. I know Matt Striker has been mentioned, however what I don't like about him is that he's never been anything other than a jobber in wwe and thus couldn't give any real rub to the in-ring talent by putting them over. JBL could because he's been to the "top of the mountain" and would know what it takes and if somebody had it. What made JBL great is that he'd shit on the wrestlers that didn't earn it yet. I remember he was relentless on MVP and Miz upon their debuts, however warmed to them over time and made what he said sound real. He had the right balance of praise and criticism - you can blow sunshine up everybodies ass or you don't have any credibility. I'll say it again, JBL is 10x more valuable as a CC than he is as in-ring talent. -
I think MVP will be in a dangerous spot come the draft because I think the annual restocking of the jobbed out Raw heel roster will have him moving over to Raw. Now MVP has some political allies in Batista (who has said he's like to take him under his wing - lol) and JBL is really high on the kid as well, but Cena and HHH need victims. CM Punk could luck out come draft time in that he's a face, meaning Raw won't have as much use for him. I could see him drafted to SD! and promptly heeling to restock their depleted upper card heel roster. There is a rumor that HHH was itching to go heel though so hold your breath come draft day. Santino Marella will be moved to SD! and will be pushed as a legit upper card threat. No way in hell Kenny Dykstra or Elijah Burke will be fired - both kids are great young talents, Kenny is future World Champion material. Wrestlers I could see fired - Snitsky (Vince realizes nobody gives a shit), Highlanders (never caught on), Charlie Haas(nothing going for him), Cherry and Domino (Deuce will be kept and repackaged as Snuka's kid), Khali(running out of things for him), Balls Mahoney, Kevin Thorn, Mke Knox, Boogeyman(brought back after Booker pushed for it). This will be Undertakers last year wrestling, he'll retire at next years WM. HHH will miss significant time due to injury. Paul London and Spanky will be split up, with the possibility Spanky is released at his request when he gets the Janetty treatment.

WWE could create a fourth brand with all of their unused talent right now? I mean take all of the current talent off of television due to injury(other than Cena) or just not being used and some of their top developmentals more than ready for prime time - Lashley Haas DH Smith Super Crazy Dave Taylor Mike Knox Stevie Richards Diva's Eve(Diva search winner) Ashley Nattie Developmentals Antoni Polaski(Amish Roadkill) Johnny Jeter (Spirit Squad Johnny) James Curtis (KC James) Paul Burchill Billy Kidman TJ Wilson Or at least add a second hour to ECW - with the brand sharing between SD! and ECW, developmentals really have no where to go right now.
