  1. About that house show I've been mentioning....the last time I went to one at the same venue, I came fairly early (I forget when) but the line stretched out alllll the way to the boardwalk and down it probably at least several blocks. It got moving fast when they started to let people in, but by the time we got there it was crowded as hell and hard to move around. We did get to our seats in time, but the concessions and merchandise stands were so crowded around that it was nearly impossible to get anything.

What time should I arrive at the show so I can get concessions and merchandise early (I could be lookin' to get a CM Punk shirt while there or somethin')? It starts at 8 PM.

  2. Prinze will be more valuable as an on air talent than behind the scenes. make him a manager and give him a bit of mic time.

They might let him do both. Writers have had onscreen appearances before. The Great Khali's translator is a writer.

  3. I have a feeling the new GM is going to announce an Elimination Chamber for Summerslam.

Punk, Kane, JBL, Batista, Cena, and Jericho makes an even six.

Construction problems: they already have a Hell in a Cell match. How could they have an Elimination Chamber as well?

Production is damned fast at setting things up. They could put the chamber above the ring, and assemble the cell live. At least I think they could...

Or they could have a double HIAC with the card above, or just a six man match. But right now it feels like it's setting up for a Chamber match.

  4. Regal breaks his f'n nose....way to help get the new champ over

    GTS baby

Could be played that he took a stiff shit-kicking and still came out on top.

I wish I had that much faith in their booking...oh look at that Punk ends up laid out yet again

Has there ever been a champion that has been laid out this many times in succesive shows?

    Rey Mysterio. :(

Rey Mysterio was tossed around by hosses and lost almost every match except title matches.

On the other hand, has Punk lost a single match since becoming champion?

Hey look at it this way, they could be building for a SWERVE and have Punk overcome the odds at Summerslam in a fatal four way or something.

  6. The 700,000 viewers were probably the overrun which usually gets a huge surge. Losing 80,000 viewers doesn't really mean too much, as opposed to say, Kofi Kingston & Mickie James vs. Paul and Katie Lea Burchill which lost 206,000 viewers.

Small fluctuations in viewers are due to commercials and such, or so I've read.

  7. Here are some segment-by-segment ratings notes from last Monday's Raw. The Lance Cade vs. Paul London match and beginning of Jericho's promo lost 214,000 viewers. The conclusion of his interview as well as the Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix match gained 260,000 viewers. The "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Jerry Lawler, Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes segment gained 149,000 viewers. The Cena & Cryme Tyme vs. JBL & Rhodes & DiBiase match gained 343,000. The mixed tag match featured Kofi Kingston & Mickie James vs. Paul and Katie Lea Burchill lost 206,000 viewers. The Santino Marella vs. D-Lo Brown match and Marella & Beth Phoenix angle gained 34,000 viewers. The first-ever match between CM Punk and Batista lost 86,000 viewers. The post-match stuff featuring Cena, Batista and JBL gained 756,000 viewers and drew the show’s peak rating at 3.89. Overall, the show drew a 3.32 rating and 4.74 million viewers. It wasn't the most watched cable show of the night as it finished in third place behind TNT's The Closer and Saving Grace.

If this warrants a thread, please feel free to move it.

  9. Hey, is Rey ready to wrestle full time? It seems like there's something missing without him trying to get involved in the title frenzy.

Jericho also needs to get in on this for a little bit as he believes he's retired Shawn Michaels... let Cade deal with Shawn for a while.

Mysterio is not fully recovered yet AND is in contract squabbles with the WWE.

I agree that Jericho should try and nose his way into the title scene since he believes HBK is retired. Punk needs a heel to play off of to establish him as a face.

Jericho is real simple to get in... just have him try to lure CM Punk to the truth, since he has experience of being considered a transitional champion. He could play mind games and cut great promos.

No good. Jericho might get cheered against Punk. Then again, after what he did to HBK...

Still, I think you should establish Punk first, then put him into a program against Jericho.

  10. I was at the show live tonight. The arena was packed, not a single empty seat. Crowd really wasn't too hot overall, mostly just subdued. Not sure how it came off on TV, but the crowd seemed to crap on both CM Punk and Batista equally. Batista got big heat when he did the complete heel turn on Punk at the end of the match, but it sounded to me at least like Punk was getting more boos then cheers. The show itself was just all right, not enough clean finishes, but enough matches delivered that I went home happy. I have tickets for RAW later tonight as well, so here's hoping that's enjoyable as well.

On TV to me it seemed like the crowd gave both of them mild cheers at the start and remained dead until the match heated up later, and I thought Punk got some cheers for his near-falls...

  11. I've been reading a lot of complaints that the finish to the last RAW was unrealistic and enough to ruin the entire show, and I have to say I realise that there's a LOT of stuff that one could consider 'unrealistic'. Think about it.

The Undertaker has a lot of crazy and supernatural and over the top angles (he comes out of a _flaming coffin_ at Survivor Series once, and let's not get into this...)

Yeah, there was a camera there too. There are cameras EVERYWHERE. Okay, I suppose the 3 camera shoot does make it worse, but my point is there's cameras that have been the witness to 'attempted murder' before and nobody's done anything. Think about it. This most certainly wasn't the worst of them. Kane and Undertaker once 'shot flames' at each other. And how about Y2J's debut and return? Who did he get to put up all those mystery vignettes for him? And then there's Mae Young's pregnancy, I think you know where that ended up...

If you think hard enough about it, everything in wrestling has some degree of unbelievability to it. I just don't understand why people are complaining this much about a crazy angle that supposedly 'ruins' an otherwise awesome show, the best RAW in years.

It's a TV show, they've done way worse and far more unbelievable stuff before, why can't we all calm down and enjoy it?

  12. Just wondering but often times I hear this stuff about how the "money is in the chase" with the face chasing the heel forever. When exactly has this worked all that well at a main event level though? I can see the chase being from roughly the Rumble to WM, but anything beyond that and I seriously stop caring. A lot of other people likely feel the same, given the way angles like Luger/Yoko and HHH/Orton (2004-05) played out.

To me the money isn't in a face chasing a heel for the belt, it's in the face winning the belt and having a successful title reign.

You mean my favourite wrestler of all time John Cena as a champ is more interesting than Cena as a contender?

Not Cena in particular. Cena is a better chaser. Some people are better as champ some people chase better. Cena's character got stale so his reign too got stale.

  13. Edge vs. HHH for the WWE Championship

HHH retains to carry the feud on to Summerslam.

Batista vs. CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship

I'd like to see Punk retain personally and I think the booking shows that he will, but you never know...Having Boretista go over here is a blatant burial of Punk, and 'tista doesn't need another title run. So I'm hoping that doesn't happen. I'm gonna go ahead and say Punk retains in a close match, possibly with Kane getting involved. If Punk jobs here, it'll undo all the faith I have in WWE's booking team, who has been doing a good job for the past few weeks.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Mark Henry for the ECW Championship

Henry wins, Extreme Rules rematch on ECW next Tuesday.

Finlay & Hornswoggle vs. Jesse & Festus vs. Hawkins & Ryder vs. Miz & Morrison for the WWE Tag Team Championships

No clue. I'll guess Miz and Morrison.

John Cena vs. JBL in a NYC Parking Lot Brawl

John Cena wins after FUing JBL through a car or something.

    Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho

Jericho wins via interference by Cade.

Shelton Benjamin vs. Matt Hardy for the US Championship

    Matt Hardy retains.

Michelle McCool vs. Natalya for the Divas Championships

Natalya wins, though I still can't believe they're making another Women's title.

  14. I sat on the floor at a house show in July '02 and the tickets cost $40 a pop. At the last house show I went to in June '06, floor tickets were $60. I sat in the $25 cheap seats. That's what I'm going to do from now on because I can always move up.

$60 for a floor show at a house show is way too much and I love house shows. Floor tickets are no good anyway if you're sitting past the sixth or seventh row. I'd rather sit in the cheap seats than in the tenth row.

I have a house show on August 8th again and I paid 60 for a seat I think in the...5th row?

The first time I was waay back and I couldn't see hardly shit. It took me a while to figure out where the wrestlers were coming from. It was terrible.

This time, I'm also near the area the wrestlers are entering. So I'll actually be able to enjoy the damn show.

  15. A find...the story itself isn't the main thing, but it's the wording here...

Former WWE Writer Reveals Possible New Vince Character

Vince McMahon is strategically planning his return. Last night on RAW, Shane McMahon's announcement did not further the storyline. This was done so that the plug could be pulled on the storyline if fans show no interest in the following weeks.

Vince could return to TV and say he was lucky to avoid serious injury. Another option for WWE is to have Vince remain absence and then show up on RAW unexpectedly. Former WWE writer Brian Gewrirtz pitched an idea in the past of Vince growing a scruffy beard and playing a Howard Hughes-like character.

They say he is a 'former' writer. Did he quit? Or get fired? Is this why the writing has been drastically different? Or is this just wrong?

  16. I knew I wasn't just imagining something with London training at Michaels' academy at least, just didn't quite know who trained him. Like they couldn't say he is a student anyway....I mean who even knows that off hand?

I was hoping for a Bret/Diesel finish to Punk/Batitsta at the PPV, but I think we're more likely to get the Feb. IYH from 1996 finish than the Survivor Series 95 finish. As in Kane will be in the role of his brother, costing Batista the match. Or maybe Kane will just attack both men.

There's a potentially hilarious storyline with Kane and Punk that they hinted at last night. Why not have them still be semi buddies, playing off their ECW background? Kane can be a total psycho nutjob and help Punk retain the belt, while Punk is creeped out by the guy. This can finally pay off with Punk having to overcome the creepy fear he has of Kane and thus beats him in a match.

No. Punk shouldn't need help retaining the belt. He needs to beat Batista clean this Sunday. Nothing else is acceptable, he needs a decisive win.
