Promo: Too much at stake

[Guest Thoth]

Moments after Edwin and Raynor leave the Baltimore Arena, quoting Casablanca, Thoth and Spider Nekura return to their locker room abode, making final preparations.

 

“Well,” Thoth begins, “That went well, I think. I still think we should be tag team champions, not the Carnival.”

 

Spider Nekura stands up, and turns slowly towards his once protégé, like a father addressing his son. “You KNOW you can’t hold the tag team belts. Not when there is an imminent rift.

 

“There’s NO rift,” Thoth insists, but Spider shushes him with one outstretched palm. “Whether you like it or not, your current alignment makes you more popular with the fans. And you moreso than Fallout or Tom.”

 

“Who are you to order me around?” asks Thoth, incredulously. “In your sudden and unannounced absence, I have worked very, very hard to make the Clan a formidable force.”

 

“Formidable? Let me ask you this. How many do you number? 3. Have you made any efforts to recruit? No. And do you know who has? Chris Wilson. Regardless of our alliance with the Carnival, Wilson has all of his troops rallied under one banner. He has greater control. And the Carnival is a loose cannon.”

 

“Things have changed in your absence, Nekura.”

 

“Oh really? Let me tell you something. Nothing changes. A group rises to power. Another group beats them, only to assume the power, until they themselves are beaten down. Anarchy... the IGNWO... the Carnival... Da Pound... and now the Magnificent Seven. And through it all, there is a group that has stayed waiting in the shadows, watching this cycle of power. The Supaido-Kuma Clan. But you see... young Balancer,” Nekura continues, pacing the room, “Something is different this time.”

 

Thoth closes his eyes, remembering a time long passed. He reaches down, and feels a trio of scars on his abdomen, received in a match long forgotten.

 

“Look, they’ve changed the Storm card. We have a match together, in the main event. Humourous. I’m off,” Spider says, and just like that, he is gone, leaving Thoth sitting on a chair. He starts to get up, but feels a beeping in his pocket. His DoCoMo cell phone is ringing. He answers it with, “Thoth here.”

 

“Hello?” comes the tentative female voice on the other side.

 

“...Annie? Annie, is that you?”

 

“Thoth... what’s going on? I was watching Smarkdown, and... what is Spider Nekura doing back?”

 

Thoth sits back down, chuckling. “Isn’t it great? It almost feels like home-”

 

“Thoth, are you crazy? ...I’d be careful. Spider’s... he’s... well... not to be trusted.”

 

“Not to be trusted? Annie... URUSAI!” Thoth, frustrated, presses end and shoves the phone deep down in his pocket, as far as it will go. He stands up, feeling the cold air waft through the Baltimore arena. Then, awash in his thoughts, he leaves. He has a big match on Friday... the first time tagging with Spider Nekura in a long time. He pushes Annie Eclectic’s warning out of his mind; there’s too much at stake to worry.

Woo, vaguely connected promos!

 

Now that the match has become Spider and Thoth against Strangler/Stryke...well, it's going to be a helluva main event. The master and apprentice, who's almost become a master in the meantime, team up. It was quick, sharp, and to the point. Big thumbs up.
