It's Been Awhile (SWF #1)

This has a lot of references to FWF and IWF frankly... because it's an FWF/IWF joint RP. However, the story portion has significance to my character in SWF as well, so I figured it would be necessary to post it here , too.

For the record, Merc and I are in a fued and are fighting at both feds' PPVs. His character there is totally different from his character here... and Tyler is actually hallucinating that Merc killed his friend Jennifer. He believes it, but it isn't true... which is from an old SWF promo. For the backstory on that little development (just so this SWF RP above makes sense), read this one:

"Mercury and Outcast feuding in 2 different feds?

I shudder to think how high those matches might be up the card in the FWF and IWF.

Mothernature says...is that Bradshaw in that graphic?"

Naw, it's Ethan Hawke.

And they're RP feds, not match-writing feds.

That's true.

I'll leave it at there is a big difference between the good and bad folks in the fed... and we're not the bad ones.

However, the good ones are damn good, ala our good friend Angel (Chaos in the FWF) and a few others.

"Ah...Angel.

I'm thinking about taking a page from the Jayson booking guide and having the next PPV main event a surprise match between Edwin and Johnny Rotten for the title.

Mothernature says, Chaos? Wow...he must be tough 'cause you can't fight chaos!"

Eh, the thing is, he really was a great writer... that's probably why Jayson kept booking him, he wished he would write for once :)

He was always too busy in FWF to bother with the lowly IGNWF. Oh well. It was the equivilent of a free-agent signing that didn't play very well with your team but then went back to his old team and won the MVP again... or something like that.

"I've got a better one.

It was like a guy who sucked at baseball, continued to suck, sucked some more, left, started playing golf and was good at that, but the new guy who ran the baseball league didn't care and then when Peter cried wolf the final time the villagers didn't come because they'd all leaned that loose lips sink ships and to wash their hands after handling raw chicken.

Mothernature says...wow, that really puts it all in context..."

"Well, it had lots of gut-wrenching inner turmoil. Lots of good italics, bold text and other fancy stuff. A soap opera-ish storyline. Poetry, song lyrics...it had it all.

But the SWF and the FWF are about as different as two e-feds can be and it doesn't change the fact that Angel sucked here. Angel didn't lose all his stuff from no-show. He wrote his share and most of them he lost.

Mothernature says, uh...yeah."

Eh... I'd say he lost a good 75% of his matches due to no-showing...

But the SWF and the FWF are about as different as two e-feds can be

...But I'll give you that point.

That's actually one of my biggest gripes with most of the RP e-feds I've seen. Even FWF, IWF, some of the 'better' ones out there, are full of people who don't do their own thing. The characters are rip-offs of real wrestlers that are different because, ooo, they use a rotating Pedigree instead of a regular one for a finisher, the promos are filled with people quoting Staind lyrics in italics and pretending that they're more than carefully calculated commercial artifice, and I rarely see much rhyme or reason to a person "winning." Whenever someone goes on one of their bulletin boards and asks "Why did I lose? I thought my RPs were really good this time?", the people in charge either ignore them completely or just tell them that they're dumbasses and threaten to kick them out.

I dunno. Every time I consider signing up for an RP fed, I always change my mind after seeing all this stuff again and again.

Same here. The only fed I know that doesn't do that sh*t ith RP stuff is the OAOAST. And a few other scattered ones whose names I have forgotten.

PROMO (Stubby P. McWeed);

"I don't like RP feds because they approach wrestling (which all this stuff is supposed to be based on) in a backwards manner.

Basically according to the rules of an RP fed feuds have to be based on over-booked, overly dramatic storylines and that actual matches are only secondary. On the other hand everything here revolves around the matches and storylines only serve to build interest in these matches (which is the way it should be).

RP feds strike me as e-feds for people who don't really like wrestling. I think the stuff we produce in the SWF would actually translate to a good wrestling show.

Mothernature says bash, bash, bash..."

Maybe so, however...

RP feds are for writers.

Match-writing feds are for wrestling fans.

There are exceptions to this rule, however, that's basically it.

::raises hand:: I'm an exception! Though I guess I'm a writer and a wrestling fan, so I largely keep the writer part to my fiction and assorted prose, and the wrestling here.

Okay, now some actual comments on the promos, since I've read em:

I like them. I don't really see the connection to our fed though. The first one--the top promo in the gold, the first person retrospective--doesn't really seem very Prophet/Outcast/Tyler McClelland to me. Something that you yourself might write, yeah, but I didn't pick up the connection to Tyler.

The latter two better pick up the personality of the Tyler McClelland character better, but it's still hard for me to bridge the gap between that one and the one that's managing Danny Williams here in the SWF. I dunno. The whole alternate universe-ness of it all throws me off. The fact that we're talking about Mercury killing people is strange too...I guess death and mystery and stuff is a big hinge of RP feds, as it's a prime example of human conflict, but I dunno. Death leading to wrestling matches doesn't really do it for me. I guess that's just my way of doing storylines, though; angles I create or work generally stay inside the arena, have to do with personalities clashing, people wanting to prove something to someone or get something from someone else. But I digress. That's not a flaw in the writing; it's more a flaw in the whole system of RP one-upmanship.

As always, your writing style and impeccable ability to maintain a character throughout a short piece is solid as all get-out. I would have liked to see Tyler weigh in with some thoughts on the WF, on why he's sided with Wilson, on why he's helping Deathwish of all people, if he really identifies with him if or if he's just using him...there's a lot to be done with the mentor-protege relationship, and I would personally rather see more of that than murder and babies.

Ouch! That last line sounded mean. It's not, really. Just a thought.

The point will seem more clear soon, and I will be doing some SWF-only promos soon as well...

However, with two PPVs this week and a ton more RPs to do before I go on vacation, it wasn't logical to do another narration for it. I will, in fact, be doing one soon, however.

As for explaining the differences in character, the top gold narration is coming from Tyler himself... the middle, whitish stuff was, more or less, the same voice to which he was talking on the bottom. It's his narrator, and thus the third person speech. The bottom is the story portion which I needed everyone to basically read the last paragraph because it will be applying to Tyler as a character development.

His persona is going to change COMPLETELY, and I need to give the one BEFORE the change, not just the one THAT CHANGES IT.

Thus, the reason for putting this RP on the board.

Okay. That makes a little more sense, then.

Just one thought, though: if the bottom part is the really important part, you might just want to copy the text and put it as a promo on this board. Call it "Read this, bitches." Webpages, colors, and html layout scare us, I think.

Maybe so, but the thing was... I didn't want to copy and paste one tiny paragraph (since that was the part that applied to SWF) and post it on the board. It wouldn't make ANY sense, then.

Well, after many attempts at reading them and failing because of other people kicking me off the machine, I finally managed to get through them both. So... long....

Anywho, what I think...

Well, it's pretty much what Edwin was saying - they're beautifully written, but I didn''t see much connection with the SWF (closer to the end they do, though). But I guess they weren't supposed to be, since they're for another fed and all.

Fantastic reads, I think. Anyone who hasn't yet, if you've got some free time, check them out.

Thank you, Chris.

I should be posting the second (and last, as far as RP posting) of this series later tonight... after I finish packing.
